Paper Princess (Royal #1) by Erin Watt [REVIEW]

From strip clubs and truck stops to southern coast mansions and prep schools, one girl tries to stay true to herself.

These Royals will ruin you…

Ella Harper is a survivor—a pragmatic optimist. She’s spent her whole life moving from town to town with her flighty mother, struggling to make ends meet and believing that someday she’ll climb out of the gutter. After her mother’s death, Ella is truly alone.

Until Callum Royal appears, plucking Ella out of poverty and tossing her into his posh mansion among his five sons who all hate her. Each Royal boy is more magnetic than the last, but none as captivating as Reed Royal, the boy who is determined to send her back to the slums she came from.
Reed doesn’t want her. He says she doesn’t belong with the Royals.

He might be right.

Wealth. Excess. Deception. It’s like nothing Ella has ever experienced, and if she’s going to survive her time in the Royal palace, she’ll need to learn to issue her own Royal decrees.

6 Royal Me Stars
You probably have a lot of questions about this book, so let me help you out. Erin Watt is a pen name for two best-selling authors, Elle Kennedy and Jen Frederick. They are both authors I have read and loved, but I’m not being biased.

This book is not new adult, but it’s not young adult, it’s like tween adult? There is some steam, but it’s very tame and mild. I would suggest maybe fifteen and up. Regardless, it could have zero action and I would have still loved this book.

This book kind of has a fairy-tale Cinderella theme, in the sense, a poor girl is taken in by a rich family and there are evil, yet very yummy sort of step-brothers. I really love the title, the cover and theme of the book because I find it whimsical, romantic and modern.

Ella Harper is a survivor and she does what she needs to do to survive.  When I started the first page of this book I was completely hooked. Like, I had to read each word slowly so I could prolong the story as long as possible that is how much I got into it. You soon realized Ella is a tough cookie almost living on the streets. She works many jobs and does what she needs to do to support her and get through school.

Until she meets Callum Royal, he takes Ella under his wings and wants her to live in his house with his five sons. Yes, you can see where this story is going. First off, I love Callum and no he isn’t the hero of the book, but just goes to show how much I love the writing style, when I love the dad in the book. He’s sweet, awkward and it doesn’t hurt he’s super rich. And I even like his loose girlfriend because she’s a hoot to read.

“You may have lost your family, but you’re not alone anymore, Ella. You’re a Royal now.”

There are five brothers, the twins, Reed, Easton and Gideon and I want to take a bite out of all of them. They add so much to the story because they make it fun, tension filled and super addictive to read.  I couldn’t get enough of them. Before you think there’s a super five love triangle thing going on, there isn’t. Each brother has a separate personality, which I love and Ella has strong feelings for one brother.

Ella is the new girl in the house and the new girl in school. She tries hard to make her way through and graduate, but the brothers don’t make it easy on her and that’s when ALL the fun begins. The thing that really grabs you in this story is Ella’s tension between her brothers. It’s cute, fun and playful. They are mean, but not cruel. I wanted to be Ella, she’s just strong, resistant and she be friends the most adorable girlfriend, Val.

“I still believe that there’s something good out there for me. I just have to keep going until my time comes, because surely, surely, none of this would happen if there wasn’t a reward down the line.”

All the characters are top notch in this book and it’s a one-sit-down read. There will be mega raving reviews on this book because it deserves it. I love the authors that wrote it, but I should have been surprised on how good this book was.

You will not be disappointed.
