The King (Black Dagger Brotherhood, #12) by JR WARD [REVIEW]

After turning his back on the throne for centuries, Wrath, son of Wrath, finally assumed his father’s mantle—with the help of his beloved mate. But the crown sets heavily on his head. As the war with the Lessening Society rages on, and the threat from the Band of Bastards truly hits home, he is forced to make choices that put everything—and everyone—at risk.

Beth Randall thought she knew what she was getting into when she mated the last pure blooded vampire on the planet: An easy ride was not it. But when she decides she wants a child, she’s unprepared for Wrath’s response—or the distance it creates between them.

The question is, will true love win out... or tortured legacy take over?

3.5 Hail the King Stars
I love Wrath, he’s my favorite out of the entire series. I read the first 11 Black Dagger Brotherhood (BDB) books back to back. It took me about two weeks, but I have to say that is the way to go.
I then took a two year break and I’m slowly getting back into it. I feel like I need a cheat sheet to help me get through the rest of the series. I am aware of the original characters, but when you give me new ones, it’s getting harder for me to follow.

The King is for those die hard BDB fans, or the ones that have read it back to back. When I started this book I was only interested in Wrath and Beth, but of course JR Ward gives us so much more. I found the first fifty percent a little slow, but once I got to the second half my interest picked up and I was sucked into the story.

Wrath and Beth

Wrath is having trouble maintaining his crown. I love Wrath and his alpha male ways and being blind just makes him more adorable. Beth wants a child and she actually tries to go into her needing. I love it when the females go into needing! You know you love it too. Anyhow, Wrath doesn’t want a child because he loves Beth too much to risk it. It makes me love him even more. I wanted more Wrath and Beth to be honest.

Assail and Sola

A lot of people don’t like Assail, I didn’t mind his story too much. I could have read more and their scenes had crazy tension, something I always look forward to in a JR Ward read.

Trez and Selena

Trez will be focused in The Shadow, which is the next book. I’ll be honest, Trez isn’t my favorite character. But there’s major drama between Trez and Selena. And I really interested in iAM, Trez’s brother.

Xcor and Layla

Again, I wasn’t really interested in Xcor, but I like Layla so I don’t have much to say about them, but I am open to what’s to come.

Overall, I enjoyed second half of the book because I felt like the pace picked up a bit and let’s face it, there was more steam. I feel like this book gave you a little treat to what’s to come, but then again, that’s how all the books in the series are, you just need to make sure you can remember who is who.
