Reaper (Boston Underworld #2) by A. Zavarelli [REVIEW]

Sasha.

He’s dark and mysterious. Quiet and lethal.
An Irish mobster.
Pure sin wrapped up in a beautiful package.
But there’s also something off about him.
He doesn’t feel anything. He shows no emotions.
Sometimes I question his humanity.
He hasn’t spoken to me in two years. Not a single word.
But we share a secret, he and I.
And if it ever comes out, I have no doubt in my mind…
He won’t have a problem killing me too.

Ronan.
I’ve slain for her. I’ll do it again.
When it comes to Sasha, there isn’t a line I won’t cross.
I watch her. She doesn’t know it.

She thinks I hate her. Sometimes, I think I might too.
But I’m always there, lurking in the shadows.
Craving her. Trying to keep the beast within at bay.
I’ll keep her safe. I’ll slaughter anyone who tries to hurt her.
The only thing I can’t do… is protect her from myself.

4.5 Tortured Stars
Reaper is a standalone and is part of the Boston Underworld series. I love this author, I love her covers and I love mob stories.  I was really excited for this book and all I have to say is one world. RONAN. Oh lord the feelings this man made me feel. It’s an up and down of roller coaster of emotions. I was loving him and then hating him and then loving him again.

Sasha and Ronan’s love story is addictive, intense and one hundred percent passionate.
Sasha is a stripper.  She has a sick mom and a sister in college. This is how she supports her family. I LOVEDDDD Sasha. She’s super tough, loyal and completely awesome. I love how independent she was and I love how much she loves the people in her life.

A few years ago Ronan and Sasha run into each other under not the best circumstances and from there things get dramatic and emotional and wonderful.

Ronan is the type of Hero you really have to open your heart to. He’s very unique and you know he has a dark past. The author does give you some flashbacks of what he has endured and it’s pretty rough. I felt for Ronan. I wanted to squeeze him into a ball and never let go. I love his dominate side and his soft side. He was perfect to me.

This is a meaty book and there’s plenty of descriptive writing to set up the characters for you. There’s this pretty chemistry between the two main characters I loved reading. I craved so much more interaction, so much more explosive meetings. I felt like every time Sasha and Ronan ran into each other it was a real treat because I never knew how things would turn out.

Because of the way Ronan was raised he’s not the typical guy. He doesn’t act like the typical guy and he pushes Sasha away a lot. I felt for the girl. I felt like she opened her heart to Ronan several times, but the girl just couldn’t get a break and that made for a juicy story.

I’ll be honest, I usually don’t go for overly descriptive writing and a hero with mega complex issues to the point where he pushes the main girl away more than I wanted, but Reaper worked for me. I loved the slow-build-up. I loved the tension. I loved how tortured and wounded Ronan was. I couldn’t get enough of it.

“This explosive link between us. All I have to do is enter his orbit, and I’m a slave to his power.”

“We’re oil and water. We don’t mix. I’m bad for him. And he’s no good for me either, probably. But I’m his, regardless. He needs to know that.”

“He only shows the world the smallest safest parts of himself. But inside, underneath, is a wealth of hidden discoveries. I want to know them all.”

This book was a non-stop read for me and I can only wonder what the next book will be. I hope there is a next book.

A romance book junkie, cat lover, and traveler when plagued by intense cases of wanderlust. I like all things chocolate, books that come with warnings, and pretty much any kind of characters that are dark and gritty.
