Shacking Up by Helena Hunting

Ruby Scott is months behind on rent and can’t seem to land a steady job. She has one chance to turn things around with a big audition. But instead of getting her big break, she gets sick as a dog and completely bombs it in the most humiliating fashion. All thanks to a mysterious, gorgeous guy who kissed—and then coughed on—her at a party the night before.

Luckily, her best friend might have found the perfect opportunity; a job staying at the lavish penthouse apartment of hotel magnate Bancroft Mills while he’s out of town, taking care of his exotic pets. But when the newly-evicted Ruby arrives to meet her new employer, it turns out Bane is the same guy who got her sick.

Seeing his role in Ruby’s dilemma, Bane offers her a permanent job as his live-in pet sitter until she can get back on her feet. Filled with hilariously awkward encounters and enough sexual tension to heat a New York City block, Shacking Up, from NYT and USA Today bestselling author Helena Hunting, is sure to

keep you laughing and swooning all night long

4.25 Light- Fun – Quirky Stars
This is my first full length novel by Helena Hunting. Shacking Up is a standalone and it’s to my knowledge it’s not part of any series. I haven’t read her other books so I’m not sure if it’s a spin-off. I didn’t know anything about this book, I just wanted to pop my Helena Hunting cherry and I’m so glad I did! Shacking Up was a sweet, entertaining and fun read. It’s a meaty book too!

Ruby is the kind of Heroine we can all relate to. She’s very poor and soon to be kicked out of her apartment. She’s a struggling actress and I love her passion, drive and strive to make it in the big city. Bancroft (Bane) has it all. He’s rich, he’s successful and he’s pursuing a new career to work for his father.

I LOVEEEEE Hero’s name. I think if I didn’t already have a son I would have picked Bancroft. I’ve never heard of it. Okay, I digress.

What really worked for me was the tongue and cheek writing style. I was really digging the storyline and plot. Helena Hunting knows how to develop the characters and I LOVE that it’s a stranger to lovers kind of read.

As Ruby pet sits for Bane’s animals they get to know each other through text, calling and facetime. I absolutely love these kinds of reads. I feel like it really brings out the tension between the two main characters and it’s a crazy slow buildup.

I also like the fact that Bane likes Ruby so much. I love it when the Hero chases after the Heroine. Ruby does have some guards up and it was frustrating for a little bit, but it does create friction.
Overall, I’m very satisfied and happy to finally pop my Helena Hunting full novel cherry.
