Giveaway + Book Review - Lawful Overdose by Justine Elvira

4.5 Handcuffed Stars

Lawful Overdose is a light, slightly steamy, adorable read where the girl pursues the guy.

Lawful Overdose reminded me a lot like Beautiful Broken Rules (which I loved).  Tessa is a slutty girl.  Sex is her defensive mechanism. Jaxon just moved into town to be closer to his brother.  Jaxon’s brother is Tessa’s boss.  Tessa wants Jaxon and doesn’t beat around the bush about it, but Jaxon wants to get to know Tessa first.

I make my way to my top dresser draw and pull it open, searching through my lingerie for my vibrator. I find it and pull it out.  This will have to do. 'It's your job to remind me why I don't need a man. It's time to get to work'.

I think the storyline is adorable.  I’m starting to like sluty Heroines.  It’s just comical to me.  Tessa works at a bar/restaurant and she’s pretty loose.  In the first chapter, she lets the bartender finger her in the bathroom.  When I read that part I had a big smile on my face.  Justine painted me a nice picture of the type of girl Tessa is.

Jaxon is a hottie! I love the name Jaxon too.  He’s this mysterious new guy that comes into town.   Jaxon has the right mixture of sexy male / brute alpha.  Jaxon and Tessa party a lot and there are plenty of almost steamy moments (remember he wants to get to know her).

The insta-connection is quick and Lawful Overdose is a fast pace novel. I did kind of figure out what was going to happen, BUT that happens a lot to me in books, so I again, kind of put that in the back of my mind.  I also appreciate Tessa’s stance against drugs even though at times she seems hypocritical.

There were some confusing bits when a different person is referenced from what is originally referenced, it's  hard to explain, but I mostly over looked this.  Overall, Lawful Overdose is an adorable read with an adorable story line.

Author Interview

Can you tell us 5 Fun facts about yourself?

1) I've danced since I was two years old. I'm thirty now and I still take dance class.

2) I lived in Denmark for several months after I graduated from high school.

3) I'm obsessed with Tattoos

4) I can't survive without coffee

5) My favorite movie is Pride & Prejudice (2005 Keira Knightley version)

How did you come up with Lawful Overdose?
Lawful Overdose came to me when I was in an all day meeting for work. I was writing a different story at the time, but I couldn't get this idea out of my head. I ended up writing down all my ideas instead of taking notes in the meeting.

 Where do you get inspiration?
I get my inspiration in so many different places. Things just come to me, but several ideas in my books are inspired by real life events. It's easier to write what you know. An example would be the death of Tessa's sister in Lawful Overdose. That idea was from something personal that happened in my family. My brother died at a young age from doing the same thing.

Other than writing, what is your favorite thing to do?
It's such a typical answer, but I love spending time with my kids. They grow up so fast so I love getting to spend quality time with them. I also love to watch my CW shows. I'm forever a teenager at heart.

Who is your favorite author? What is your favorite book?
This one is hard. I'm a huge Jodi Picoult fan. Her writing makes you really step back and think. Her book Nineteen Minutes changed the way I look at things, it was that powerful. She takes an event and makes you look at it from several people's perspectives. For entertainment value I am a huge Madeline Sheehan fan. Her writing is amazing and she is great at submerging you in her character's worlds. You never want to leave.

Lawful Overdose was getting kind of kinky, do you think you will write a book with a bunch of kink? Like BDSM, M/M/F?
I'm not sure... never say never. I love writing sex scenes and making them a little kinkier. I think it's something most people can relate to. If I were to write a book about BDSM or M/M/F now, I would be wronging my readers. I don't know enough about either of them and I like to write what I know. It could definitely happen in the future, but I need more knowledge first. Does that makes sense?

What can we expect for the future?
I hope to keep writing books people love. My next book is called Changing His Game. It's about Jared and Autumn, two strangers who become best friends. Feelings start to come to the surface, but Autumn will never act on them because Jared is a porn star. I'm also working on a book for Piper and Ryan from Lawful Overdose.
