The Prince and the Player by Tia Louise [REVIEW]

Cinderella meets Dirty Rotten Scoundrels in this tale of power, lust, and royal deception…

One crown prince; one “playboy prince”…
One con artist; one petty thief…
One twisted plot for revenge.

When Grand Duke Reginald Winchester is exiled in disgrace, he vows he won’t go down without a fight. Crossing paths with Zee Wilder and her younger sister Ava at a gambling resort in Miami is the stroke of luck he needs.

Zee is the counterfeit courtier in Reggie’s plan to humiliate Rowan, the controlled heir who kicked him out of the kingdom. In return, the sisters get a permanent spot on Easy Street.

If only Zee didn’t keep finding herself in a clutch with Cal, Rowan’s playboy younger brother. Ava’s no help, as she finds quiet walks in the moonlight discussing poetry and leadership with the brooding, future king irresistible. Even more irresistible is kissing his luscious lips.

The whole plan is falling apart, and neither sister is sure she wants to stop it.

Prince & the Player features secrets, lies, royal high jinks, scams and double-crosses; breathless, swooning lust, cocky princes, dominant alpha future-kings, and crafty courtiers, who are not always what they seem.

4 Royal Me Stars
I’m obsessed with Princes books. Yes, please give me royalty and the girl from the streets!
The Prince and the Player is about four characters, two sisters and two brothers. The two sisters are from the streets, they con people in order to make a living and the brothers are princes.
Love where this is going right?

The story is about Zee, her sister Ava and the Princes are Cal and Rowan. I really like books with multiple characters, I find that it adds a little more to the story and it makes it more interesting. The book is told from Zee and Rowan’s POV. I love dual POV books, but in this case, I think I would have liked all character’s POV better, I know some people don’t like that because it’s just too much, but that’s me.

Zee loves her sister Ava and has been taking care of her since the time they ran away from foster care. Zee is older, wiser and still conning people in order to make it day by day. She runs into someone who tempts her with an offer she can’t refuse.

I like that Zee is street smart and I love how protective she is towards her sister. I have a sister, so I totally got that. It’s not always easy liking a Heroine who is a con woman, but you feel for her. Why work a nine to five job and make pennies right?

Ave is adorable and I REALLY do wish she had her own POV. She’s sweet, young and loves her big sis. She follows Zee in her scam because that’s what she does. There’s more to her story and I really enjoyed getting to know her.

Rowan is a cad. He likes women and fast cars. To my surprise I liked Cal a lot more, Rowan’s brother. Cal is more of a player and he’s the fun one. I found Rowan a bit standoffish, but I love how he is loyal to his brother and his country. I found his character very different from Cal and it was good, because I didn’t want them to be the same.

Somehow everyone interacts and the stories intertwine and I really enjoyed this. What I love most about this story is that its dialogue based and it’s action pact. I never knew what was going to happen and the ending will have you gripping the pages.

All I can say is that, don’t have expectations while you read because you will hit many surprises along the way.

 ~ Crown Prince Rowan ~
I step around the hedge, and I’m frozen on the spot. A young woman sits on the concrete bench. She’s leaning back on her hand, and she seems to glow in the moonlight. Her dark hair is down her back in long waves that curl gently at the ends. I want to thread my fingers through it and see if it’s as silky as it appears. Her lips are full and pink, and her skin is the color of caramel.
Her strapless gown leaves her slim shoulders bare, and her chin is tilted up, eyes closed. I burn with desire to take her in my arms and kiss her. I want to run my mouth all over her body and taste her. I want to inhale her scent and have her all around me. It’s an insanely primitive response unlike anything I’ve ever felt. I have to know who she is. I have to know her better.
“Hello,” I say as gently as possible, despite my growing hunger.
Her eyes flash open, and I’m hit with a blaze of deep emerald green. It’s like a sucker-punch to the chest.
“I’m sorry!” She leans forward and moves her long dress aside before standing. She’s trying to leave, and my insides revolt. I can’t let her go.
“Wait!” Dashing forward, I catch her hand. It’s slim and cool in my noticeably larger one. “I was just…” I motion back toward the ballroom. “Taking a break, and I heard you. Were you reciting poetry?”
Her chin drops, and I’m pretty sure she’s blushing. I almost can’t control the urges burning just under my skin.
“It’s so beautiful here.” She slowly pulls her hand out of mine and points over the hill. “The ocean is just there, and the roses smell so nice.”
In that moment, I remember. “Was that from ‘In the Clearing’?”
“You like Robert Frost?” Her eyes sparkle, and I want to only see that light in them forever.
“His poems were always easy for me to remember.” I look around, thinking. “They rhyme, and they feel logical to me. Intuitive.”
“Yes,” She smiles and nods, as if I’ve read her mind. “That’s how I feel!”
Again, I reach for her hand. Looking down, I notice our skin seems to match, although I can tell she’s been in the sun. Her hands are soft and elegant, and I want them on my body. I want her on my body. I want our bodies entwined all night…
When she pulls away, it hurts. “I’d better get back. I only stepped out for some air. They’ll wonder where I am.”
I capture her hand again. “Who are they? Who are you here with?”
Her chin drops, and she looks worried. “Oh, well, umm…” I watch as her eyes trace the flagstones searching for an answer.
I’m hypnotized by those eyes, by her full lips. Reaching out, I touch her cheek. Moving closer, I’m ready to taste her. Her chin lifts, and her pink tongue slips out to touch her bottom lip. It’s like a match to gasoline, and I know the moment we meet, we won’t be going back.”
