Book Review - Truth (Consequences #2) by Aleatha Romig

BLURB
Claire Nichols endured the CONSEQUENCES of Anthony Rawlings’ vendetta. When she first arrived to his home, her goal was survival. Through strength and compartmentalization Claire captivated her captor. Her resilience in the face of his rule threatened Anthony’s well developed plan. Domination became desire and power turned to love. Their passion and adoration in a world of opulence appeared perfect. Yet, reality was a roller coaster of emotion. Claire’s world teetered on the edge of sanity as Antony monitored her every move. When given the opportunity to flee, Claire drove away. A fateful decision which set a well laid plan into motion. However, unbeknownst to either of them, there were others who saw past the perfect facade of Anthony Rawlings. There were others who saw the TRUTH.

Conspiracy and unfulfilled promises result in an early prison release for Claire. Not just a release – a pardon. According to the law, her crime never happened! Will it be that easy? Faced with freedom from her past... can Claire seize it? Can she build a new life, mend her broken spirit, become the woman she once was, and seek her own revenge? Or is it all a game? And does the game master have different plans? How does

Sophia Burke fit into the puzzle that is Tony and Claire? Will her presence affect the future of this well esteemed man? Can he dominate twice? Is that his goal? TRUTH continues the tumultuous saga of CONSEQUENCES, introduces new players, and uncovers more intrigue. Aleatha Romig skillfully weaves past transgressions through current deception to create a fervent world of obsessed desire. In this reality can an all-consuming relationship survive? When buried sins are discovered they threaten not only Tony and Claire’s future -- but their very lives! Will the TRUTH be revealed in time?

REVIEW

4.5 Stars

WOW

… We all have done terrible things. That doesn’t mean we aren’t capable of good.

I don’t even know where to begin with this review and I am not even sure I can write a review. I am just going to write my feelings and hope everything makes sense.

I loved Consequences and my 5 star review is HERE and I went into the reading with caution. Consequences had everything I looked for in an epic read and to sum it all up I was left with a very gratifying feeling, despite the darkness of the book.

In full disclosure, prior to reading, I knew a few things or at least I was on guard. I was informed on the tone of the ending, I knew to question everyone, I knew there would be back stories with important characters and I also knew Tony’s character shifts. I am not sure if this was a benefit or a determinate, but I was still shocked and surprised in the end.

At 10% I was on guard

At 30-49% I couldn’t put the book down

At 50% I took a mental break

At 90% I was on edge, forming ulcers and needed to get to the end

At last page I was like WHAT?!

I would say the tone and feel is very different, yes Truth is still very dramatic, but it’s more about uncovering truths and realizations.

Clare is different, she’s stronger, smarter and just all around a witty Heroine we expect to see. With all the reviews stating how Tony redeems himself, I feel like Clare should take that credit. I didn’t understand her in Consequences, but I feel like I do now. I do not agree with all of her actions, but I.GET.IT.

You don't know what love is. You have an obsession and it really needs to stop. Stop watching me. Stop having me watched. Your fun is done. It's over.

I liked Tony in Consequences maybe because I knew there was something deeper within Tony. No, I don’t agree with all of his actions, but I always understood Tony. Of course I questioned a lot of his decisions and it’s very nice to get answers. In Truth Tony is still the 100% domineering man he has always been, but there are moments where he is completely exposed and venerable. I can’t express how much I enjoyed those moments.

I liked Harry, but I knew deep down I knew Harry’s situation, how could I not? Harry and Clare’s moments were a nice read, it didn’t seem like a filler, it actually showed me how Clare response to a “normal” relationship. I am glad Harry’s character was written.

I am not fond of flashbacks, but I love piecing puzzle pieces. I was interested in Tony’s back story and all the players, like Sophie, the Burks, Marie, Nathan etc and I felt like everything I was reading was meant for a reason.  Hands down Truth was a pleasurable read and the tone it was written in was very much needed. I love the character shifts, plot twists and reveals. To sum it up, I was invested with the characters.

I felt Tony and Clare’s relationship in Consequences and I wanted those feelings to transcend into Truth and it did!

You will not be disappointed in Truth. There is no cliff-hanger ending, but there’s enough to leave room for book 3, Convicted

I recommend.

Author Interview

Did anything inspire you to write “Consequences” and “Truth”? Or was it more random than anything?

I believe it was more random. I had the “thought” of the opening scene of Consequences. Everything has grown from that. The characters have taken on lives and personalities of their own. I’ve loved watching them blossom!

In three words, describe Tony. In another three words, describe Claire.

Tony—complicated—broken—and unaware
Claire—survivor—needy—resourceful

Do you have any exciting stories about your latest novel Truth that you think will be of readers interest?

When I wrote Consequences, I did not plan on it being the beginning of a trilogy or a series. I thought it was a standalone book; however, my readers wanted to know what happened next. To be honest, so did I.

Tony and Claire wouldn’t leave me alone. I thought about them constantly. I needed to learn the TRUTH of their story. I mean, did Claire really love him? Did she only go on with their relationship because of Stockholm syndrome? What about Tony? Why would he do what he did at the end of Consequences? Were Claire’s consequences planned from the beginning? How do their ancestors fit into the story? I had SO many lingering questions...the only way to learn the answers was to sit down and write.  I can just say...after surviving the Consequences—everyone NEEDS to learn the TRUTH!

Do you listen to music while writing? If so, what’s your favorite?

Sometimes. When I do listen to music it is usually Elton John, Billy Joel, or jazz. I truly like quiet.

Who is your inspiration?

I have met many authors who I consider inspirational; however, I’d say my grandmothers were my inspiration. That isn’t because they wrote books—they showed me, by example, how hard work and sincerity make a lasting impression.

  1. I soooo love this series. Thank you so much for this giveaway.

Oh and something I think should be added to the Truth playlist is "When I was your Man" by Bruno Mars I don't know why but everytime I hear it, it makes me think of the Consequences series..
