Sweet Fall by Tillie Cole
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
4.5 Loving past flaws Stars
I simply love this series and I’m always a fan of Tillie Cole’s book and Sweet Fall is no exception.
The theme of Sweet Fall would be “secrets”, except it’s not secrets with-held between the main characters, but the main characters having secrets from everyone else. I love it!
Lexi use to have an eating disorder and she is in recovery. She was home schooled for a few years and is finally going back into the real world.
Austin is from the wrong side of the tracks. He is poor, he has tattoos, but he’s also a star football player. He needs to be drafted in the NFL so he can move away from his bad situation and make something of himself. Except his past is making it hard for him to move on since he was once in a gang.
Lexi and Austin shouldn’t be linked but somehow they are and somehow they make it work and form a unique relationship.
I’m always cautious when I read a book when the main character has an eating disorder. It can turn very cliché very quickly, but I love the little disclaimer Cole wrote in the beginning. She said she wrote from her experience and I really appreciate that.
This is no easy book to read, it’s very heavy and there are a lot of touchy issues that are addressed. I really love the relationship between Lexi and Austin. It starts off with great banter and angst and slowly it develops into something deeper.
There’s plenty of major drama with Lexi on the verge of relapse and Austin’s gang not getting off his back. The ride is intense and one completely enjoyable.
