Losing It (Losing it, #1) by Cora Carmack

I wished I hadn’t read the summary prior to reading the book, but I wouldn’t have read the book without the summary. Losing It is about an actress/student, Bliss (silly name), she’s a virgin and wants to give it up before she graduates. Her best friend takes her to a bar and helps Bliss pick up guys, just as Bliss is about to leave, she goes to the bathroom and meets Garrick, who’s a good looking British guy. Garrick is sitting at the bar reading Shakespeare, killing time before the locksmith comes to his apartment. Bliss and Garrick hit it off from there.

However, the next day, Bliss finds out Garrick is her theater teacher. I wish I didn’t know this part, but it’s the part that made me want to read the book. This book is nothing like Gabriel’s Inferno or the Honor series. The book is fairly light, short and mostly upbeat. There’s some drama, but nothing out of the ordinary.

The cover is ridiculous, they look nothing like the characters described in the book. Bliss is suppose to have curly long hair and Garrick is this hot British guy who has wavy hair, long enough to fall to his eyes, but like everyone says, don’t judge a book by its cover. The title is pretty stupid as well, was the whole book centered on Bliss’ virginity, not really. Bliss’ virginity has a part in the book, but it wasn’t the main part. I thought the book was also a bit short, the relationship couldn’t really form as it should, there was an instant connect, then a little hiccup in the middle and towards the end, they kind of bonded.

I imagine an older Garrick, although he’s suppose to be only a year older than Bliss who’s 22 in the book. It was hard to see him as a 23 year old teacher. Bliss’ friends were entertaining and there was a slight love triangle going on, but nothing really formed. I kind of wanted something to happen, like Beautiful Disaster. Garrick showed some possessive moments, but nothing that could get me to swoon over, it just showed me, that he was into Bliss.

Losing It isn’t a classic, but it’s a pleasant read if you want something light, refreshing and have a few hours to kill.

  1. I'm so guilty of judging books by their covers. It's an awful habit, but I cant help it. If it's a book by an author I love and it has a horrible cover, I search around for ages trying to find different versions :P. Thankfully, John Green and Sarah Dessen normally have covers great enough to match their awesomeness.

The story sounds like a nice quick read - but a bit too 2D for my taste. I'm also kind of over the whole 'teacher / student thing', even if the age difference isn't huge. It's just ... eh.

    Great review though :)

    1. Thanks! I really do try not to judge a book by the cover, but sometimes you just can't help it and I agree, I am notorious for searching alternative covers. Although Losing It was a quick read I do have book 2 on my TBR list. My girlfriend met Cora and the story was kind of true, inspired by events that happened to the author, so I'm pretty intrigue now. I'll let you know if book 2 is a good go. Thanks for the comment too!
