Archer's Voice by Mia Sheridan [Audio Review]

When Bree Prescott arrives in the sleepy, lakeside town of Pelion, Maine, she hopes against hope that this is the place where she will finally find the peace she so desperately seeks. On her first day there, her life collides with Archer Hale, an isolated man who holds a secret agony of his own. A man no one else sees.

Archer's Voice is the story of a woman chained to the memory of one horrifying night and the man whose love is the key to her freedom. It is the story of a silent man who lives with an excruciating wound and the woman who helps him find his voice. It is the story of suffering, fate, and the transformative power of love.

SPOILER FREE REVIEW

Bree witnessed her father’s death and isn’t handling the tragedy well. She decides to get on the road and drive. She finds herself in a little small town and decides to stay for a bit. As Bree leaves the grocery store, all her items fall to the ground and a young mysterious man helps her pick up the items. Bree is completely embarrassed and rambles on non-stop. The mysterious man doesn’t say a word to Bree and walks away after she retrieved her items.

There’s something about the mysterious man, Archer. He's a loner and doesn’t talk to anybody. Archer’s property happens to be one mile from where Bree’s house is and every day when Bree visits the lake, she stops and looks at Archer’s house, wondering what kind of man he is.

Bree
I loved Bree because she’s such a strong, yet damaged Heroine. The story of her father’s death is tragic and sad, you just FEEL for her. You understand why she had to escape her home and just “find herself”. She also sweet, loving and really open-minded, she’s the type of person you want to be best friends with.

Archer
Words can’t describe what kind of Hero Archer is. He’s not like any other Hero I’ve read and it was so refreshing and unique. I couldn’t stop reading because of him. Archer’s Voice is mostly in Bree’s POV, but every once in a while you get Archer’s and I LOVED IT. You feel for Archer and you slowly start to understand why he is the way he is. It’s heart-breaking and endearing all at the same time.

In the beginning you get a little bit of Archer’s past, which I loved because as much as he is a mystery, you get a tiny glimpse of what kind of cards he was dealt with. I do not want to give anything away, but there’s something tragic about Archer, which just completes the story for me. Archer is disheveled, reclusive and kind of stand-offish. It’s cute because Bree sees all of this, but still tries to form a friendship with him.

When Bree and Archer get closer, it’s such a wonderful dynamic to read. Everything Bree and Archer experience are different from the other books I’ve read and you just want to root for them. Their relationship isn’t easy, because both of their past pains make it difficult for each other to be comfortable with their closeness.

I don’t know why it took me so long to pick up Archer’s Voice, it’s a MUST READ.
**This is a stand alone book, you do not need to read the other books in the series to understand Archer's Voice

Audio Questions

Where does Archer's Voice rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
This is my second time reading Archer’s Voice and my first time doing the audio version.  When I read this book for the first time I went into it blindly and it was the best way. I LOVED this book. It will pull you by the boot straps and never let you go. You will ache for Archer and sympathize with Bree. I love the dual narrators and it added an extra element to the story.

Who was your favorite character and why?
Archer is my favorite character and can you blame me? There’s something unique about him and he just MAKES the story. He’s not your typical hero, which makes him even MORE endearing it. Trust me, you will love and lust after Archer.

What about Kris Koscheski and Emily Durante ’s performance did you like?
This is my first Kris novel. I really liked his voice.  It’s masculine and very adult, but not too deep. It suits Archer perfectly. I like his voice transitions too. There are some flashback scenes and he played a very adorable seven year-old Archer. I’m a fan.

This is my first Emily novel and her voice is really good. You can tell she’s a seasoned narrator. I thought she acted Bree nicely. You can feel her emotions. I remember her laughing, sad and super upset. I completely felt Bree through Emily. She was great.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
It’s a pretty long book, but overall, it’s very good and I could listen to it in one sitting. These are my favorite ways to re-read a book. I get the whole new experience and I know I’m getting a book I love.
