The last thing Vaughan Hewson expects to find when he returns to his childhood home is a broken hearted bride in his shower, let alone the drama and chaos that comes with her.
Lydia Green doesn't know whether to burn down the church or sit and cry in a corner. Discovering the love of your life is having an affair on your wedding day is bad enough. Finding out it's with his best man is another thing all together. She narrowly escapes tying the knot and meets Vaughan only hours later.
Vaughan is the exact opposite of the picture perfect, respected businessman she thought she'd marry. This former musician-turned-bartender is rough around the edges and unsettled. But she already tried Mr. Right and discovered he's all wrong-maybe it's time to give Mr. Right Now a chance.
After all, what's wrong with getting dirty?
4.5 Get Dirty with me Stars.
Dirty is a spin-off from the Stage Dive series. Dirty is a standalone and is part of the Dive Bar series. When I realized Kylie Scott had a new series out, I was ALL over that. As much as I love the Stage Dive series, I was really excited about sinking my teeth into something new and different.
Dirty is a bit like Stage Dive, but with a twist. Dirty is more light-hearted and it’s focused on a bar with some musical elements, but that’s not the focal point. You do not have to read the Stage Dive series in order to read Dirty, but after you read Dirty, I can bet you will want to read the Stage Dive series.
The first two chapters got me hooked. I was smiling and laughing like crazy. Lydia realizes on her wedding day that her soon-to-be husband is gay. Not only he is gay, but he cheated on her with the best man. Totally awesome, cute and super funny right? She freaks out and runs for it!
She runs into Vaughan’s house and by run into, she jumps through a window and stays in his bathtub, still in her wedding dress. I can’t tell you what a meet cute that is. Can you imagine Vaughan’s surprise to find a wet and sad bride in his bath tub?
Lydia is a sassy Heroine, what I loved best about her is that she never let men get the best of her. Well, maybe she let her ex-fiancĂ© get the best of her, but moving forward she doesn’t. She knows going into a relationship is the last thing on her mind. She wants to figure out her next step. I love that she didn’t fall head over heels over Vaughan. She’s crazy attracted to him, but she sees him as what he is. He’s a guy that is there, a completely hot and sweet guy, but nothing more.
Vaughan is coming back home after his band breaking up. He’s licking his wounds and trying to figure his life too. So, why not figure it out with Lydia. I liked Vaughan, he’s not the super over-the-top alpha male Hero, but he’s a good guy. He’s there for his family and he’s there for Lydia when she’s in need. He lets Lydia stays at his place until she can figure things out.
The relationship between Vaughan and Lydia is really slow, but that’s a good thing. They become friends and I love reading the dialogue they have with each other. They keep things light and simple and it really works for them. Both find themselves working at Dive Bar and that’s when things go crazy.
There are a lot of secondary characters that come into play and I’m really happy about that. Let’s just say I can’t wait for Nell’s book, she’s Vaughan’s sister. There’s Eric, who works at the bar, Pat who is Nell’s ex and co-owner of the bar and so many more characters. YAY.
Vaughan and Lydia continue to keep things light, but as feelings grow deeper, it becomes harder to say goodbye. Dirty doesn’t have that much angst, but good tension to keep you interested. I can’t say enough what a sweet and funny book this was. I found the couple really refreshing and I was really engrossed with the everyday dynamics.
I’m really happy about this series and I can’t wait for the next book!
