This is Lizzy and Ben’s story!!!!!

 

Lizzy is pregnant and with **GASP** Ben’s baby. (I didn’t give anything away, this is disclosed in the summary).

 

First off, I LOVE a single mom story and I love a single pregnant mom story even more!

I love the beginning. Kylie Scott totally punched me in the face with drama and I was just engrossed with the read.  There is foreshadowing in the beginning, just a warning because those are hard for me to overlook, but I’ll admit, it was a good one.

 

Ben can’t date Lizzy because she is his best friend’s little sister.  I’m a major of the forbidden storyline. I think it adds a spicy tension. Lizzy obviously wants Ben because he’s hot, talented and did I say hot?  Ben can’t stay away and one thing leads to another and you get baby (well in the tummy, but you know what I mean).

 

The story progresses into how Ben reacts to everything.  Lizzy has no say in the situation, she’s pregnant and she has to deal with it. I really liked how level-headed she is. No one wants to be a single mom, but she doesn’t want to “trap” Ben into a relationship.

 

Ben can’t do relationships. He loves his carefree life and throwing a baby/mama in the mix complicates things. He doesn’t want to abandon his soon to be family, but he just can’t do relationships.  So Lizzy and Ben form a compromise and try to work things out on a friendship level. But it’s always easier said than done.

 

Ben and Lizzy’s relationship felt organic to me. I understood both sides. I understood Ben’s fears and issues. I understood Lizzy’s frustrations and I love her baby-mama rants! I could completely relate. No one feels pretty pregnant and if they did, then they were truly blessed.

 

Deep has plenty of drama and angst to keep you happy. If you are a fan of the series, you will not be disappointed.

 

 

His laughter, it didn’t really sound the smallest bit amused. “Christ. You’re done here.”

“Ah, no. I’m actually not. Now see, this is where we have a problem.” I folded my arms. Then unfolded them because like fuck I’d look defensive. He was the one in the wrong, not me. “You’re not prepared to take me, or my feelings, seriously. What you want is to hide away in Mr. Too Cool for Commitment land and just play with my affections when it suits you. Okay, I’ve accepted that. But none of that means it’s okay for you to come in here and act like you’re the boss of me. None of it.”

“That so?” he asked, leaning down so that we were almost nose to nose.

“That’s so, baby.” I play-punched him in the shoulder, which it should be noted, I barely came up to. Okay, so maybe the alcohol on a mostly empty stomach had made me slightly/lots braver/sillier. “So why don’t you take your little caveman jealous tantrum bullshit somewhere else. See, I do this funny thing I like to refer to as whatever the fuck I want. Understand?”

He just stared.

“And as pretty as you are with your beard and your muscles, you are too damn tricky and . . . complicated and shit for me.”

“I am?”

“Yes, you are. Are you finally seeing my point here?”

“You bet.”

“Excellent. So take your hotness elsewhere, kind sir. I want no part of it!” Huh. I had so told him.

5 Stormy Stars

“I don’t remember how to breathe without you”

A Stone in the Sea is the first book in the Bleeding Stars series.

This is not my first book by A.L. Jackson, but this is my first audio listen and it was FANTASTIC!
A Stone in the Sea was dramatic, emotional, and descriptive. I felt it all. I felt ripped, raw and I was ready for the next ride.

Sebastian is the lead singer for Sunder.  After some negative publicity, he’s taking the calm route and he goes to Savannah, Georgia until all the chaos dies down. He also is trying to figure out what he’s doing with this life.

Shea is a waitress and she notices Sebastian in her section. He’s nothing like the guys she’s use to. He’s all rocker, tattooed and very stormy.  She’s crazy intrigued, but right now she doesn’t have the time for distractions. She has more important things in her life. She doesn’t need a relationship.

“Every instinct told me I needed to run, that there was something about this beautiful stranger I couldn’t resist”

The beginning is very simple, but the book is so complex.  So many things will be revealed throughout the read and it will leave you panting for more, shocked and gripping the pages.  I couldn’t get enough. I loved the little secrets here and there. It just adds so much drama, tension and it really shifted the book many times. It also flowed really well.

I love Shea. I love that she’s strong, self-less and she doesn’t really want anything to do with Sebastian, but he has such a presence, it’s hard not to get to know him. She warns Sebastian many times she doesn’t date, but Sebastian continues to pursue her and I love it.

“The only promise he’d ever made me was the one that he was going to break me”

“And each time, he slipped a little deeper into my bones”

Sebastian isn’t super famous, but he’s famous in the rocker world. Shea doesn’t know who he is and it’s so cute how she doesn’t treat him like a love-sick fan.

 I love Sebastian. I love that he’s so tortured. I loved that he had to escape his LA life and he’s trying to redeem himself from past actions. I love how his past is such a mystery and as I read, I’m slowly uncovering it. And it’s not all at the end! I loved that Jackson keeps me questioning throughout the read on what will happen next.

Shea has her secrets too.  There’s a reason why she doesn’t do relationships and why she is a waitress in a bar. It’s not the big plot to the book, but I like that part of the book. I loved that part actually and it will make your heart break more for Shea.

“I wanted to escape into her layers, to skim along the surface, and get lost in the beauty. To feel the shyness. To sink beneath, deeper into that pent-up confusion and dark”

“I guess when you loved someone, you were willing to accept all the pieces and factors and fragments that made them up, the sum of those adding up to the whole, and you were left with no choice but to wholly accept the total of that creation.”

I love Jackson. I love her books, I love her stories. I love what she makes me feel. I LOVE LOVE LOVE her!

What made the experience of listening to A Stone in the Sea the most enjoyable?

The narrators and overall storyline made my listening experience most enjoyable. Narrators can make and break a book and these definitely made it.  I loved that the storyline was multilayered.  There was not a single tone to the read. I was pushed and pulled throughout and I loved it.

What was one of the most memorable moments of A Stone in the Sea?

Throughout the book more of the character’s pasts are revealed and I really enjoyed reading those parts. I felt like it added a lot of depth to the story. I felt like I was connecting more with the characters and I was really seeing it from their POV.   A.L. Jackson really builds up her characters. They were 100% developed with issues and complexes.

Which character – as performed by Andi Arndt and Sebastian York – was your favorite?

This isn’t my first book narrated by Sebastian York. I have a tiny crush on this narrator. He’s voice is very deep and very seductive. He reads so well and really captures the character. I felt Sebastian the character. I felt the intensity and raw emotions. I’m a huge fan and I will listen to anything he narrates.

This is my first book narrated by Andi Arndt and I love her! I love her Southern twang. She completely took on the Heroine’s character.  Andi’s voice is feminine, yet sweet. I loved that she could go from Southern to non-southern, it felt very smooth and it completely flowed. I’m a fan.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I felt an array of emotions. All good and all pleasurable. I felt the character’s heartache, pain and even their passion. I even cried! There are some good scenes and it will make you feel.

4 I-Want-To-Go-To-Austin-Texas Stars

Leaving Amarillo is book one of the Neon Dreams series.

This is my third Caisey Quinn book.  I really love Caisey, I think she’s classy, sweet and very adorable. She was the VERY FIRST author to give me an ARC. **GASP** that was a very long time ago, but I will never forget her.

Her first series I read was Girl on Tour, so it’s only natural that I’m going back to a musical band theme, but this time its folkish-indie rock, which is something I love.

Dixie plays the fiddle in her band.  Her band has her brother, Dallas and her best friend from childhood, Gavin. The three of them are inseparable and they only have one thing in mind.

To get signed by a major label

The beginning starts with a prologue. I hate prologues that have foreshadowing. This is a pet peeve of mine, but this one wasn’t so bad. I didn’t get that much of a glimpse, but I kind of wished I skipped that part.

The band plays in Austin, which is something I love reading. I live in Texas, so I appreciate all the references.

Dixie and Gavin have this crazy chemistry. Gavin wants Dixie and Dixie wants Gavin, but years earlier Gavin promised Dallas that Gavin wouldn’t touch Dixie. I know. This is the angst. Caisey Quinn is known for very angsty reads. I’m trying hard to like angst, but it’s hard for me to get into a book when I want to pull my hair out and slap the characters around.

I understand why Dallas made Gavin promise. If Gavin and Dixie get together, it might mess up the dynamics and it could cause tension in the band. However, because Gavin and Dixie can’t really do anything together, it’s causing a lot of tension and problems. Since tensions are high Dixie is willing to accept anything, even a little bit, she just wants to be loved.

Dixie is a complicated Heroine, she has baggage, issues and she’s in love with someone that she can’t be with. She also loves her brother and she’s willing to put EVERYONE first. I kind of hated but loved her for it. As much as she frustrated me, I loved how caring she is. I loved how much she put Dallas first, as much as HE frustrated me too.

The band is kind of taking off, but everything comes with a price. So with the Dixie and Gavin issue, there’s the band issue and then Dallas maybe finding out about Gavin and Dixie issue.

There are a lot of issues.

A lot of the characters frustrated me. This created a lot of tension, angst and hair pulling on my part. I know readers will gobble this up.

But here, where I am right now, Gavin Garrison is making love to me with his eyes. And I don’t want him to stop. Ever. 

It’s when he takes her hand and slowly slides up the sleeve of her dress shirt so that he can write on her wrist that I lose my mind completely.

He opens his mouth to respond—most likely to deny that he did that tonight—but I place my trembling fingers against his lips, firmly breaking our ten-year unspoken no-touching rule.

But you can’t really have fire. You can’t hold a flame in your hands without getting burned.

He’s not watching you like he’s worried you’ll screw up. He’s watching you like he’s worried you’ll disappear and take his heart with you.

Most of them treat Emmie as a sister and Emmie’s brother forces everyone in the band to promise no one will go after Emmie.

Emmie has no desire to form a relationship with any band member. After catching her ex cheating on the road during a tour, she doesn’t want to date a musician again. She believes they can never be faithful.

Slater Vaughn is the lead singer, he’s attractive, a player and loves the single life. He loves to sing and his dream is to get signed on. He knows Emmie is off limits, but it makes it difficult for him leave her alone when she is only a few doors down from his room.

I love the summary. I loved that Emmie is this tough and driven girl. It takes guts to leave your current job and to go after your dream. I also love that she is launching her brother’s band, so there is some history there and it really makes the book flow.

Slater and Emmie have great banter. Slater is super attractive to Emmie and wants to sleep with her, but knows he can’t. Emmie is super attractive to Slater, but she doesn’t want to date another musician. I get Emmie’s issues against dating rockers, but at times she does get a little bit frustrating.

The book is mainly about the guys trying to get signed on while Emmie and Slater figure out the relationship.

She pushes Slater away a lot and then it kind of forces Slater pull back and retreat. Slater does try hard to stay on the good path and it’s very adorable. You feel for him and you want him to break down Emmie’s walls. There’s a healthy amount of tug and pull between the two. I wished the novel focused a little more on the guys touring, but overall it was an easy read.

If you are a book rocker fan that likes a mild touch of angst, then this is for you.

4.25 Jimmy Lovin’ Stars

YAY it’s Jimmy story!!! Who doesn’t like a jerk?! I do!

So we know Jimmy isn’t a nice guy. I will admit, he’s not my favourite rock star due to the previous stories, HOWEVER, you will change your mind after reading Lead.

Jimmy is on edge. He wants to stay clean and he will do anything to do it. Lena is out of a job and because of her sassy personality, the band wants her to be Jimmy’s live-in sponsor.

IS’NT the STORYLINE CUTE???!!!

The thing I love so much about Kylie Scott’s books are how cute her storylines are. I feel like with each book I read, there’s always going to be a unique plot. I love the idea of Lena living with Jimmy and keeping him on track.

Let me tell you this, I’m not a fan of drug addicts or addicts in general. It’s a vice I usually don’t enjoy reading in books, BUT that’s not the main story.

GREAT RIGHT?

Lead is so light and there so much WITTY and CUTE banter, you will be glued to the pages. I love Jimmy and Lena’s relationship.

Well, I just LOVE Lena. Lena is really strong and sassy, but she’s not in your face or annoying. She kind of just goes with the flow and does what makes her happy. She’s not too emotional and completely rational. I love reading her internal dialogue (which is something I usually don’t like to do). I love her inner struggles with fighting her feelings against Jimmy.

Jimmy is a jerk you learn to love. He’s so messed up and on edge, you just want him to let Lena fix him. He also has moments where he’s really adorable and you just want to hug and kiss him.

I really enjoyed Lead and if you are a fan of the series, you will not be disappointed with this one.

4.5 I love Mal Stars!

YAY! It’s Mal’s book and I love him so much!!!!

I like Kylie Scott’s writing style a lot. It’s a bit funny, light, yet interesting enough to keep me going. I definitely read her books from start to finish in one sitting.

Summary

Mal is the drummer in the band Stage Dive. He is the jokester and keeps everyone in check. One day Anne catches Mal’s eye and he does everything he can to get her, even if it means moving in with her and pretending to be her boyfriend.

Review

I’m a big fan of pretend-to-be-my-boyfriend storyline. Ann is a huge fan of Stage Dive and even though she’s had a crush on Mal since she was a teenager, she isn’t looking to get serious with anyone because that leads to getting hurt. Mal needs a fake girlfriend and since Mal likes Anne as a person already he wants her to be it.

We don’t know the reason why Mal needs a fake girlfriend and it’s not the total issue of the book, so don’t worry, the storyline NEVER gets annoying or frustrating. If anything, Play is VERY cute. Anne and Mal are an adorable couple. Mal is just silly. Mal meets Anne at a party and two days later he shows up at Anne’s apartment as her new roommate.

It’s funny right?

Mal is still the ladies’ man and Anne is guarding her heart, but as Anne’s boss start showing interest in Anne, this drives Mal a bit crazy. Ah, I love the storyline like mad. Mal and Anne are great and Play is a yummy read. If you liked Lick, then you will love Play.

5 Lickable Stars

Lick was the type of book where I slap myself for not reading it sooner! A lot of people recommended Lick to me, but I just never took the bite. I hate to say it, but it was because of the old cover. The Hero just looked greasy and I couldn’t get past it, BUT I like the new cover, so I took the plunge. (I know, I’m horrible, but I’m honest!)

LICK HAD the best First Chapter! If you could read an excerpt, do it, because you will be hooked from chapter 1!

Evelyn wakes up in Las Vegas with a ring on her left hand and doesn’t know how it got there. David is the sexy tattoo man in her hotel room.

Okay, so how awesome of an intro is that?! I nearly fell off my seat laughing because it was just too funny. Evelyn obviously got way too drunk and married some random dude. She doesn’t know anything about David, but she thinks it’s best to get divorced and never mention her night with anyone. David is a little upset because he remembers, but he doesn’t want to be with someone who doesn’t want to with him and agrees to the divorce.

Oh if only divorce is so simple, maybe it would be if she was married to a normal person. Evelyn and David work on getting the divorce, but as they try to split up, they spend more time together and Evelyn is starting to see why she could marry someone like David, but will David get over the fact she doesn’t remember anything from their first night?

I love Scott’s writing flow. There were no overly dramatic parts or annoying scenes. I also liked the side characters, Scott introduces us the other band members and you get a glimpse of future books. My heart goes out to drummer Mal, who is so funny. The steamy scenes were great too and there was enough sprinkled in for me. The climatic ending was typical, but I enjoyed it and added some nice tension.

Overall, I was completely surprised on my reaction to this book, it just goes to show, authors should really update dated covers.

Like my rating? I do too. Look, let me just cut to the chase, I LOVE the Beaumont series AND I love Heidi McLauhlin!!!!

 My Forever Girl (Beaumont #1) was FANTASTIC and my 5 star review is HERE. AND My Unexpected Forever DID.NOT.DISSAPOINT! In fact I love this one EVEN MORE!  Yep. And you know why? ONE FREAKING WORD SAYS IT ALL…

Harrison

Oh, you didn’t hear me? Let me just say it again.

So this is Katelyn and Harrison’s story.  Katelyn is struggling to move forward and every time she feels like she can move on, she feels like she is betraying her late husband, Mason.  Harrison likes Katelyn. It was love at first sight for him and he’s willing to do everything he can to just be with her. The only problem is, how long can he wait?

Katelyn

I loved her. I know she can be frustrating, but honestly when I was reading the parts with memories, I thought to myself, is this how I would react if I was in her situation? And the answer would be YES! You feel for her. You want to wrap her up in a blanket and watch movies with her and tell her it’s going to be okay because you can’t but just want to make her feel better. Oh and the twin girls! Oh they are capital A- adorable! I loved them. I love how they each had their own personalities too.

Harrison

Oh lord, how I love Harrison. You would think writing such a perfect Hero would be boring or blah, but no, it just made me want to jump through the pages and rip his clothes off! If you had to envision the type of man you would want to date, someone who is kind, patient, GREAT WITH KIDS, loves you for you, well that would be Harrison.

“You either like me or you don’t. Thing is, you can’t lie, I know you feel something, you just have to let yourself believe I’m good enough to be a part of your life.”

I said it in my previous review and I'll say it again, I am slapping myself in the face for picking up this series so late. Heidi is an exceptional writer, she can write flashbacks and make me (that’s right! I admit it) LIKE FASHBACKS! What? Yes, it’s true.  A lot of things worked out for me in this read. I love single moms, I love the relationship Katelyn had with her past husband and of course I loved HARISSON who is my dream man.

“I want her around all the time. She excites me, makes me feel like I’m about to skydive. I could live off the adrenaline I feel from her alone”

Oh those flashbacks gutted me, I wept like a baby and I was just a ball of mess, but it was so good and I LOVED IT! YES, I LOVED crying because the writing is so good!  You feel the emotions from page one to the finish. You root and cheer for them, you fall in love with the characters and side characters and it’s a beautiful story.  I loved it and I recommend!

I LOVE the Beaumont series! Where did the story from and will there be a book 3?

Forever My Girl started after I saw a photo. I brainstormed an idea with my best friend & beta, Yvette, for 90-minutes and wrote the first 4500 words that night.

My Unexpected Forever developed while writing Forever My Girl.

The third book is being written now.

I love Harrison, ah, he’s so sweet. At one point did you think you were writing him too sweet?

No at all. I love him the way he is. He’s that way because of his mom and losing his dad so young. He grew up with two woman, his mom and sister and was their protector.

I read your bio and you said during the day you talk about Land Use? What does that mean?

I spend my days talking about what residents can and can’t do with their land.

What is your favorite book and who is your favorite author?

I’m not sure I have one. There are a lot of stories/series that I love and following

4 Lead Singing Stars

Sometimes you just need that steamy read to get you going.

I liked Rock Hard more than Backstage Pass and I think it’s because I found Sed and Jessica’s storyline adorable. Sed is the lead singer who is notorious for having multiple girls at the same time. Jessica and Sed are each other’s first love. At the time Jessica was aspiring to go to Law school and Sed wasn’t the famous rocker he is now. Because Sed didn’t want Jessica to leave him to go to Law school, he refused to let her go. Jessica didn’t want to be held back and left Sed.

Two years later, both meet up and never really got over each other, but both are very hurt from the breakup and there are plenty of issues coming in between them.

The beginning was top notch for me. I really liked reading how Sed and Jessica had their fall out. It kind of showed me where they stood two years ago and when they run into each other later, well it was too funny and I laughed out loud.

As always Olivia did not disappoint with the steam and I’m beginning to think each book has its own theme. This one would be public sex. As much as I enjoyed the steamy parts, I felt like it could have been steamier and kinkier, but that’s my personal preference and it may be just right for you.

I really enjoyed the Sed and Jessica parts of the read, but when I got glimpses of the other character’s storyline, I got a little distracted. I wasn’t really interested in those parts, and again this is my personal preference and if you are a true fan of the Sinners on Tour, then this probably would work for you.

Overall, Rock Hard was an enjoyable steamy read. I enjoyed the characters and there was plenty that went on to keep me interested. I did feel like I couldn’t quite connect with the characters 100%, but I’m not giving up on the series and will move to Hot Ticket soon.

Book Review - Backstage Pass (Sinners on Tour #1) by Olivia Cunning

4 rockin’ Steamy Stars

I started Backstage pass three times. I think each time I read it, I was just not in the right frame of mind, meaning, I wasn’t in the mood to read a super steamy read. HOWEVER this time I am and well, there was plenty of steam and then some.

Brian is the lead guitarist for a rock band. Myrna is a college human sexuality professor.  Both run into each other and even though Myrna is older and more conservative, she’s curious to what adventuress Brian can do for her. 

There’s a lot of sex in this book.  The high ratings are for those who appreciated it and it worked for them.  The lower ratings are probably because there was too much sex. I personally stand in the middle.

I liked the steam. I was in the mood for a steamy kinky read and Backstage Pass gave me enough to tickle my fancy and keep me interested.  I also liked the side characters, Brian’s band members and how they interacted with each other and Myrna.

However, I couldn’t connect with Myrna and Brian. I don’t know if it’s because she’s older and that’s kind of not my thing or I couldn’t see what they saw in each other.  I understood why Myrna was a little standoffish and I liked it was the Heroine pushing back, than the sluty rock star.

Backstage Pass was a quick easy read that gave me plenty of steam to keep me going on.  I am looking forward to moving on with the series and getting to know the other band members. I hope with each book I pick up, some of the kink is picked up a notch and I have a feeling it will.
