Darker Water isn’t like the cover. I imagined something dramatic and slightly intense, but it’s really kind of sweet and light hearted. It’s not a comical book, but it’s cute and adorable, which I like.
Laney dates a lot of frogs and no princes. She dates guys who use her, treat her like crap and are no good for her. She loves passionately and it always leaves her broken hearted. This time she is telling herself not to fall for anymore frogs.
Carson doesn’t do relationships. He doesn’t know how to love, but he’s really attracted to Laney. He wants Laney and is willing to do anything to get her. All Laney wants is a friendship because she knows if she moves to the next step with Carson, she will fall for him.
What I really liked about Darker Water is the relationship and bond Laney and Carson have with each other. There’s a lot of character of development which made the book really enjoyable to read. I loved the beginning.
When Laney first meets Carson there’s instant attraction and lust. I love Laney. I love how smart, sassy and strong she is. She knows she can’t be in a relationship with anyone because she falls in love with them. How cute is that storyline?! I love that she keeps on telling Carson she can only be friends, even though she’s super attracted to him.
I also like Carson. He’s very attractive and he goes after Laney like mad. I like a Hero chasing after the Heroine. Towards the middle and end, the book shifts and more of Carson are revealed. I liked getting to know Carson’s past, but he did frustrate me a bit. You kind of want to slap him and say, you will be okay and you will figure it out.
If you are looking for a read that has an adorable couple with some issues then Darker Water is for you.
I ran my hand up her neck, her hair between my fingers. When I had enough of it, I curled it into my fist and used it to turn her around. The tension kept her face raised but her eyes wouldn’t meet mine.
“Look at me. I’m not fucking Anna. The only person I’m fucking is you and, like I told you before, when that changes I will let you know.” I’d used the world ‘when’ on purpose. So both of us would remember what this was and what it wasn’t. She could see other people, too. Of course, if I was in a room with any of them, I’d make it so that they physically couldn’t fuck her again, but she could see whoever she wanted to.
I bent her head back a bit more and kissed her. Solidifying the idea that I’d take what I wanted and she should do the same, especially when what she wanted was me.
