The Girl I was Before (Falling, #3) by Ginger Scott [Audio Review]

I’m the selfish one. I suppose that’s the nicest thing people say about me. I’ve heard the other things, too. “Paige Owens is a pretty girl with nothing else to offer. She’s just a good time at a party. She’s stupid, heartless, cold and useless. All she cares about is getting a guy to look at her. Why would anyone want to be her friend?”

Some of those things are true. Others were true. They’re all hurtful.

None of it matters.

I’m ready to make the hard choices. I’m ready to face the consequences. I’m ready to be the girl I was before, and I’m done being the one who lost her way.

I’m ready to become the girl Houston Orr sees when he looks at me.

Strong Enough (Tall, Dark, and Dangerous #1) by M. Leighton [Review]

From the author of the New York Times bestselling Bad Boys novels comes the first in a dark, sexy contemporary trilogy.

Is she strong enough to trust the most dangerous man she’s ever met? And is he strong enough to let her?

How would I describe myself? Well, I’m Muse Harper. I’m a twenty-something painter who loves red wine, quirky movies, and men with a fatal flaw. But that was before I met Jasper King. He became my fatal flaw. Eight months ago, I had a choice to make—abandon everything I’ve ever known to protect my family, or stay and risk someone getting hurt. I chose the former. My plan was working just fine until I found out my father had gone missing.

Sinfully Mine (Lessons with the Dom #2) by Kendall Ryan [Review]

She was forbidden.

I didn’t care.

As my best friend’s little sister, Macey Hale was off-limits, but the girl was tempting as sin and forbidden as fuck. I wish I could say that stopped me. I wish I could tell you I behaved like a gentleman.

I didn’t.

When she waltzes back into my life with that same spark I fell for, looking every bit the beautiful woman I knew she’d grow into, I have to force myself to remember I’m different from the man she once knew. I’m colder. Harder. And for good reason.
With my heart on lockdown and my hands aching to touch her, I set out to prove that I can keep myself in check this time.

My Time In the Affair by Stylo Fantome

~Mischa~

I made a conscious decision to cheat on my husband.
Now, before you judge me, hear my story. Hear how much I'm like you, how similar my thoughts are to your own. Yes, I'm a horrible person. Yes, I've done horrible things. Yes, I don't deserve forgiveness. Yes, bad things happened because of my actions.

But I'm willing to bet I've done things that maybe, just maybe, you have thought of doing.
Maybe, just maybe, you're not as innocent as you'd like to think.

Or maybe I'm not so guilty ...

WARNING: This book involves CHEATING. The word AFFAIR is in the title. The main character has an AFFAIR. In the synopsis (directly above), she states that she intentionally has an AFFAIR. If you don't like CHEATING, then you have been VERY WELL warned. Also, this book is primarily written in the third-person narrative.

5 I Love this book and YES it has cheating Stars

No, I didn’t get abducted by aliens nor did my brains get eaten by zombies. You are reading this correctly. I am giving a five star rating on a book with cheating. Not just any form of cheating, but in-your-face, I-am-cheating-on-my-husband cheating.

**GASP** So all of you “I don’t read books with cheating” hear me out before you say no.
Yes there is cheating and no the husband isn’t an evil villain that deserves it, BUT the story is really beautiful.

Keep on reading my review… I promise you will be okay.

I can’t relate to the story because I’m completely utterly in love with my husband, BUT I love reading the insights from a woman who isn’t happy with her marriage.  I have a few friends that are divorced or wanting to divorce. I could never fully empathize with them, but with My Time in the
Affair, I felt for Mischa.

And you will too.

Mischa married her high school sweet heart. They were the perfect couple and only naturally they get married.  Years later Mischa doesn’t feel the same towards her husband. People change, lives change and with that people grow apart.

Sure Mischa could have said something, sure she could have left her husband, but it’s never as easy as it seems.  Personally I feel like the act of actually getting divorce is NOT as easy as it seems or as we read in books. It’s not like having a boyfriend and just breaking up with them. There are serious consequences to getting a divorce and I completely understand Mischa (even though I’ve never been in that position).

Mischa is stuck in a rut and she has an itch and Tal is the person to scratch that.

Mischa has a conscience. She doesn’t go into the affair lightly. She understands how wrong cheating is and I really enjoyed reading her inner monologue. Tal is a free spirit, aloof and mysterious.  I find him sexy and intriguing.  I kept wondering what he does for a living and how he spends his days. I loved Tal.

And stop thinking you’re a horrible person. You’re not. He’s not. You’re just not in love. That’s not horrible. It’s just sad.

My Time in the Affair doesn’t have much angst and it’s one of the reasons why I really loved it. It was more about the feelings and relationship between Mischa and Tal, than silly stuff.  The husband is present in the story and I don’t want to give much away, only that he is not a bad guy, but you won’t pity him or think Mischa is this completely horrible person.

The book shifts a lot and you never know where it’s going. It’s so fast paced and I couldn’t get enough. I was devouring the pages like a mad woman and no one was going to stop me from reading! Stylo never disappointed me.

I was so scared to read this, I actually asked Stylo if I could handle it. She told me I would be fine. And believe or not. I was. I was completely and totally fine. In fact, she opened my eyes to this world. A world with book with cheating and me loving him.

How much I wanted him took me by surprise. I didn't want to feel that way – I'd been telling the truth. I wasn't looking for another relationship. Clearly, I wasn't good at relationships, and had no business entering into an already-fucked-up-relationship without ending my last totally-fucked-up-relationship.

But it was like he understood me. I could say anything to him, literally anything, and he just got it. He didn't think I was a horrible human being for cheating on my husband. He didn't care that I was married. Didn't care that I was emotionally stunted most of the time, and physically inhibited some of the time. All he cared about was being with me. Everything else, that was just background noise.
I hadn't ever known that kind of freedom, to just be myself, one hundred percent. Say whatever I want, do whatever I want, in all situations. You just can't be like that with most people, there's always a filter that needs to be in place. But not with Tal.

Not in any situations.

I was drunk on him. High on him. I wanted to swallow him down, inhale him, inject him. I wanted him to live under my skin and change my DNA. I wanted to live in his air and breathe his passion.
I thought maybe, just maybe, I could overdose on him. If I could just take him one more time, and shut my eyes, and it would be the last time, with anyone, with anything, that would be alright. Guilt would be gone. Hurt would be gone. Confusion would be gone. Oppression would be gone. Obsession would be gone.

My memory would be his, I would only exist in his mind, and that was fine.
It was the only place I wanted to be, anymore.

Crazy woman living in an undisclosed location in Alaska (where the need for a creative mind is a necessity!), I have been writing since ..., forever? Yeah, that sounds about right. I have been told that I remind people of Lucille Ball - I also see shades of Jennifer Saunders, and Denis Leary. So basically, I laugh a lot, I'm clumsy a lot, and I say the F-word A LOT.

I like dogs more than I like most people, and I don't trust anyone who doesn't drink. No, I do not live in an igloo, and no, the sun does not set for six months out of the year, there's your Alaska lesson for the day. I have mermaid hair - both a curse and a blessing - and most of the time I talk so fast, even I can't understand me.

Yeah. I think that about sums me up.

INSTIGATION (Clandestine Affairs, #1) by Tessa Teevan

Breaking up is hard to do.

Three years after her life changed forever, Gabriella Latham finally has it all. Killer job [if working for her boyfriend counts]. Killer closet [even if she doesn't technically own any of it]. Killer boyfriend [who refuses to let her leave him, even when she tries]. Unfortunately for her, the last part isn't hyperbole. She just doesn't know it yet.

Adrian Morningstar was a dream come true. No one had ever loved her more, and for the first time, in longer than she could remember, she was no longer alone. He was the Prince Charming to her Cinderella, until suddenly he became the Beast from whom she could not escape.
Until him.

When Rafe Matthews is hired to oversee the guest home construction of one of the most powerful businessmen in the country, he finally has his in. Nothing will get in the way of what he sets out to do.

Until her.

Watching from the shadows, he's drawn to the beautiful, isolated woman of the house. His curiosity is piqued and he has to have her. She may be taken by the boss, but that's not enough to stop him. Or her.

Nothing is quite as it seems,  and this is only the beginning.
Passions ignite. Tempers flare. Secrets kill.

3.5 Nothing-is-what-it-Seems Stars

This is my second Tessa Teevan book. I read Combust and loved it. I gave Combust five stars. I also think she is an adorable and is a sweet author. Tessa Teevan is known for her lighter romance books. Instigation is darker. I wouldn’t call it a dark read, just not as light as she usually writes.
I read Instigation blindly, meaning I didn’t read the summary prior to starting it. A few things about me, I do not like prologues, love triangles or highly narrative writing. So my review is based on those items.

Instigation, to cause by incitement.
Instigation, to urge, provoke, or incite to some action or course

Gabriella fell in love with perfect Adrian. Adrian is successful, rich and very charismatic. Gabriella doesn’t have any family and I believe that is why she craves affection so badly. Gabriella and Adrian go into the relationship fairly quickly. So, Gabriella quits her job and shacks it up with Adrian.
Everything seemed perfect.

Then, Gabriella meets Rafe.  Rafe has a contract to work on Adrian’s home. While Adrian is away *gasp* Gabriella is to work closely with Rafe to make sure the project is done correctly.
We all know where this is going

But, like I said, not everything is what it seems.

When Rafe and Gabriella first meet, it’s just like Adrian where there’s an instant attraction and lust. Again, I think it’s because Gabriella craves affection so badly.  Rafe and Gabriella enter this intense relationship. It’s really emotional and you question where it will go.

You will also question who Rafe is. Yes, he’s there to work on the house, but there seems to be something he’s hiding. It’s not told outright, but just an underlying feeling I get when I read.
What really worked for me is the whole mystery element to the book. I’m a suspenseful junkie. I was reading like mad, trying to figure out what will happen with Gabriella, what Adrian has planned and who Rafe is.  Instigation is very narrative. A lot of the time I am being told what has happened. I prefer to read dialogue and scenes, but this is a personal preference.

I liked Adrian. He’s very dominate and kind of ruthless. Of course I like the mean Hero.  I like how aggressive he is towards Gabriella and its board line abusive. I wanted to read more of this. I wanted to know why Adrian is the way he is and how he can act one way and act another. He’s a huge enigma to me.

Gabriella isn’t an easy Heroine to read.  She has many conflicting issues and that will happen in a love triangle. Her need for affection can be somewhat self-sabotaging to me. I feel like this girl has a lot of issues and she is very desperate for love.  I know a lot of readers will love her.
When the book shifts, it throws you in this crazy roller coaster and it gets INTENSE. A lot is thrown at you and it will leave you feeling a little bit whipped lashed, but in a good way.

A devilish, almost villainous grin graced his lips as his eyes filled with amusement. “Oh, Gabriella, you’ve no idea,” he said. “I shouldn’t do this. I shouldn’t be here, but I can’t seem to help myself.”
His words caught me off guard as his hands gripped my hips and he pushed me backwards until the brick of the wall bit into the skin of my lower back. He leaned down until his lips were dangerously close to mine. My insides quivered, and my heart leaped into my throat. For an entire week, I’d been waiting for his hands to be on me again, and now that he was right there, I knew I’d die if he didn’t touch me. Kiss me. Take me home and ravish me like he had that first night.

“Adrian,” I whispered, surprised at the breathy, sultry tone of my voice. God, it’d only been a week and I was already dangerously addicted to him.

His eyes gleamed as if he could read my mind, and I wondered if this has been his plan all along. To give me a taste, a perfect sneak peek at what being his would be like, and then take it away, only to keep showing up to tease me. To dangle the proverbial carrot on the string that was too high for me to get a taste or even the slightest nibble. It would suffice only for a moment, but it would be just enough to keep me from going insane. He was a deranged Pavlov and I was his little dog, salivating and panting, wanting him, that torturous bell ringing over and over again, but instead of giving me what I wanted, he kept it too far out of reach.

I'm a twenty something book junkie who is also obsessed with sports. Bengals, Buckeyes, Reds are my teams! I work for the government during the day, hang out with Air National Guard on the weekends, and have been married to my own book boyfriend for over seven years. We currently live right outside of Dayton, OH with our two cats.

If I’m not writing or looking through tons of photos of hot men, all in the name of research, then you can probably find me curled up with my Kindle, ignoring the rest of the world. I love my sports almost as much as I love my books. My other obsessions include red wine, hot men, country music, and all things Grace Potter.

Deep (Stage Dive, #4) by Kylie Scott

Positive. With two little lines on a pregnancy test, everything in Lizzy Rollins' ordinary life is about to change forever. And all because of one big mistake in Vegas with Ben Nicholson, the irresistibly sexy bass player for Stage Dive. So what if Ben's the only man she's ever met who can make her feel completely safe, cherished, and out of control with desire at the same time? Lizzy knows the gorgeous rock star isn't looking for anything more permanent than a good time, no matter how much she wishes differently.

Ben knows Lizzy is off limits. Completely and utterly. She's his best friend's little sister now, and no matter how hot the chemistry is between them, no matter how sweet and sexy she is, he's not going to go there. But when Ben is forced to keep the one girl he's always had a weakness for out of trouble in Sin City, he quickly learns that what happens in Vegas, doesn't always stay there. Now he and Lizzie are connected in the deepest way possible...but will it lead to a connection of the heart?

4 Oh Baby-Mama Drama Stars

Deep is part of the Stage Dive series. Deep is a standalone, but it’s strongly advised you read the series in order.

This is Lizzy and Ben’s story!!!!!

Lizzy is pregnant and with **GASP** Ben’s baby. (I didn’t give anything away, this is disclosed in the summary).

First off, I LOVE a single mom story and I love a single pregnant mom story even more!
I love the beginning. Kylie Scott totally punched me in the face with drama and I was just engrossed with the read.  There is foreshadowing in the beginning, just a warning because those are hard for me to overlook, but I’ll admit, it was a good one.

Ben can’t date Lizzy because she is his best friend’s little sister.  I’m a major of the forbidden storyline. I think it adds a spicy tension. Lizzy obviously wants Ben because he’s hot, talented and did I say hot?  Ben can’t stay away and one thing leads to another and you get baby (well in the tummy, but you know what I mean).

The story progresses into how Ben reacts to everything.  Lizzy has no say in the situation, she’s pregnant and she has to deal with it. I really liked how level-headed she is. No one wants to be a single mom, but she doesn’t want to “trap” Ben into a relationship.

Ben can’t do relationships. He loves his carefree life and throwing a baby/mama in the mix complicates things. He doesn’t want to abandon his soon to be family, but he just can’t do relationships.  So Lizzy and Ben form a compromise and try to work things out on a friendship level. But it’s always easier said than done.

Ben and Lizzy’s relationship felt organic to me. I understood both sides. I understood Ben’s fears and issues. I understood Lizzy’s frustrations and I love her baby-mama rants! I could completely relate. No one feels pretty pregnant and if they did, then they were truly blessed.

Deep has plenty of drama and angst to keep you happy. If you are a fan of the series, you will not be disappointed.

His laughter, it didn’t really sound the smallest bit amused. “Christ. You’re done here.”

“Ah, no. I’m actually not. Now see, this is where we have a problem.” I folded my arms. Then unfolded them because like fuck I’d look defensive. He was the one in the wrong, not me. “You’re not prepared to take me, or my feelings, seriously. What you want is to hide away in Mr. Too Cool for Commitment land and just play with my affections when it suits you. Okay, I’ve accepted that. But none of that means it’s okay for you to come in here and act like you’re the boss of me. None of it.”

“That so?” he asked, leaning down so that we were almost nose to nose.
“That’s so, baby.” I play-punched him in the shoulder, which it should be noted, I barely came up to. Okay, so maybe the alcohol on a mostly empty stomach had made me slightly/lots braver/sillier. “So why don’t you take your little caveman jealous tantrum bullshit somewhere else. See, I do this funny thing I like to refer to as whatever the fuck I want. Understand?”

He just stared.

“And as pretty as you are with your beard and your muscles, you are too damn tricky and . . . complicated and shit for me.”

“I am?”

“Yes, you are. Are you finally seeing my point here?”

“You bet.”

“Excellent. So take your hotness elsewhere, kind sir. I want no part of it!” Huh. I had so told him.

Drunken bravado was the best.

Come to Me Recklessly (Closer to You, #3) by A.L. Jackson

His heart was turned off…

Until she turned him on…

Christopher Moore gave up on the idea of love years ago. Now, his life is an endless string of parties and an even longer string of girls. Enjoying the physical perks with none of the emotional mess, hes convinced everyone that hes satisfied—everyone but himself.

Samantha Schultz has moved on with her life. Finishing her student teaching and living with her boyfriend, shes deluded herself into believing shes content. But there is one boy she never forgot—her first love—and she keeps the memory of him locked up tight. She will never allow any man to break her the way Christopher did.

When Christopher's sister and her family move into a new neighborhood, Christopher is completely unprepared to find Samantha living at the end of the street. Memories and unspent desires send them on collision course of sex, lies, and lust. But when guilt and fear send Samantha running, Christopher will have to fight for what has always been his.

5 AWWWW Stars

Come to Me Recklessly is a standalone and is part of the Closer to You series.

It’s Chris and Samantha’s story! YAY!!!  I love A.L. Jackson so much!!!

They say time mends all things. I say they are liars.

You have to be in a certain frame of mind when you read a Jackson book. You have to be willing to go on a journey and it will have heartache, tears and sadness, but it will also be beautiful.
Chris is Aly’s brother and Jared’s best friend. Once upon a time, Chris and Samantha were the perfect couple and so in love.  Chris is the bad boy that couldn’t be tamed and Samantha is the goodie girl, always obeying her parents. Something happens and the two go their separate ways.

As much as I hate flashbacks, I really enjoyed reading the moments in high school when Chris and Sam dated. It just seems so innocent, cute and carefree. They were so young and so in love.

Years later, Sam runs into Aly at Target and Aly wants Sam back into her life, since they were once good friends.  Sam doesn’t know if she can be friends with Aly because of her brother Chris.  When Chris sees Sam for the first time, well, CRAZY happens and I love it.

Chris is not the typical Hero. He’s mean, a jerk and a ball of emotions. We love it don’t we?!

I’m not a toy. You don’t get to play games with me. Not ever again.

The tension between Chris and Sam is wonderful. I couldn’t get enough of it. Chris hates Sam so much but he can’t stop thinking about her. As you read, you get glimpses of why he hates her so much.  Sam doesn’t want anything to do with Chris either.

She also has a boyfriend! **GASP** I’m usually against love triangles or things that involve in that storyline, BUT this one works for me.  Also Sam’s boyfriend isn’t great, so that helps too.  Sam wants to move forward and just be friends with Chris. Of course it’s never that easy.

All I want is to be inside you, Samantha. To [be with] you until you never forget who you belong to

She was so close that she was filing up my breath.

As you read, you kind of piece together what happened.

I really enjoyed Come to Me Recklessly because it wasn’t easy.  Sometimes you need those tough books to make your heart melt.  I felt the chemistry between Sam and Chris and I got what I crave for in a read, a love story.

If you are a fan of the series, you will not be disappointed.

There are few things that hurt so much as a broken heart.

It’s physical.

Intense.

Real.

It doesn’t matter which way you slice it, analyze it, or add it up, you’ll always come up with the exact same sum. The worst part is there is no antidote for this affliction.

They say time mends all things.

I say they are liars.

Maybe it subdues, burying it beneath all the new memories we make, tucked under the burdens and joys and new experiences that life layers on over the years.

But that broken heart?

It’s always right there, lying in wait. Ready to crush you when you’re slammed with that errant, unexpected thought.

But nothing could have prepared me for this—what it would feel like to look up and find him standing inches from me.

From the moment we met, he always had the power to bring me to my knees. I should have known his control over me would never diminish or dim.

I should have known it only would intensify.

Maybe I should run.

But somewhere inside, I know he’ll never let me get far.
