Mackenzie, Mac was in a horrific accident on graduation night. She has never been the same since. It’s a year later and she’s in college. She’s recluse, antisocial and has a slight limp. She doesn’t want anyone in her life and she doesn’t have anyone in her life.

Bentley was on call during the night of Mac’s accident. He helped her arrive safely to the hospital.  A year later, he sees Mac again at the same college he is attending. He wants to forge a relationship with this girl, but she doesn’t make it easy.

Mac has pretty tough walls built around her and Bentley is determined to break them.

The more time I spent with her, the more I wanted to show her how wrong she was.

I love the college setting and I love the “innocence” of the book. It read to me as sweet and completely adorable.

Mac is a tough cookie, as she should be. She had the perfect life and it all came crashing down in a few seconds. She’s bitter, angry and she is kind of stuck. I also liked that she has a limp. I felt like it was a constant reminder of the accident. This is her first year not living with her parents and she finds refuge at the library. Every day she walks to the library, despite the ache in her leg and one day she runs into Bentley.

I loved Bentley. If you ever had to love the good-guy, it’s him. I loved when they first meet, there’s no question to how they know each other. It’s out there in the open. He sees something in Mac and even though he has no problems getting girls, he wants to get to know her.  I loved reading his inner monologue. I loved how nervous he was around her and how he really cared for Mac. It was so sweet!

I’m as broken as the window you found me behind the night of the accident.

Mac is very standoffish and Bentley decides to show up at the library every day. He doesn’t talk to her, but kind of worms his way into her life. It’s super cute. The angst level is low and I really liked it. This was simply a story about past pains and finding something new.  Bentley tries to help Mac works on her issues, like overcoming fears, regrets and trying to accept her new life.

I was completely absorbed with the storyline. There were tiny flash-backs, but I liked reading them because it gave me a better glimpse on what actually happened and it kind of explains why Mac is why she is the way she is.

The chemistry and dynamics between Mac and Bentley is like I said, super cute. I love it when the Hero pursues the girl and I love that she is kind of broken.  Sometimes it’s so nice to swoon over the good guy.

I do a re-read with my favorite books and this is my first book narrated by Carly Robins. I’m spoiled with duel POV’s narrations. I would love to have listened to Josh’s POV, but Carly did a good job. You can sense her emotions completely. There are some dramatic points during the read and oh boy you felt for her. You can feel Ember through Carly and it just made the audio listening experience better.

5 Endearing Stars

Reading Full Measures was like finding a lost gem in a sea of stones. It was light, but sad, amazing and not what I expected

On Ember’s twentieth birthday she lost her Dad and her world was turned upside down. Her mom is too distraught to function, her younger teenager sister is rebelling like crazy and her seven year old brother needs someone to take care of him. Despite Ember’s pain, she steps up to take care of her family. It’s not easy for Ember to take on her Mom and Dad’s shoes, she’s still in school, still has friends and still has a boyfriend, but Josh Walker, Ember’s old high school crush, seems to always be there to help her when she’s having a rough day

Oh MY GOD, I LOVE A DAMSEL IN DISTRESS, yet STRONG Heroine story line!

Ember

I adore Ember. She’s not your typical Heroine. When she finds out her dad dies, you just FEEL FOR HER! You want to wrap her in your arms and tell her that everything is going to be okay. Ember is just heart-broken, but she keeps herself together for the sake of the family. Her brother wants her to get a cake for her birthday and so Ember goes to the store and buys cake. She forgets her wallet and Josh is there to pay for her.

Josh

I really liked Josh. Full Measures is told from Ember’s POV, but Josh has the perfect balance of Hero, Jerk and Cave-man tendencies. I didn’t want him to be super perfect and he wasn’t. He is just so sweet and caring and is always there for Ember.

Overall

Towards the second half of the book, it shifts and it everything just gets super intense. I was going through so many emotions, but in a very good way. I couldn’t get enough and I needed to see how everything was going to play out!

I LOVE the way Full Measures was written because there were NO FLASHBACKS! I got the story from start to finish and I was emotional from start to finish. I also loved the pace. There’s a lot that happens in Full Measures and a lot of character development. As Ember struggles to take care of her family, she slowly grows and starts finding herself too.

I even love the side characters. I loved reading the Mom’s pain, the brother’s adorableness and even her sister who was always annoying, but was addictive to read about. I think Full Measures worked out so well for me because Yarros made it believable and emotional. I felt like I was there. I felt like I was reading Ember’s dynamics. I felt the chemistry and banter between Josh and Ember and it was perfect!

What did you like best about this story?

Josh Walker! I love the Hero. Sometimes you want to fall for the nice guy, the guy that is always there, and the guy that can bring a smile to your face. Yarros created such a sexy, yet lovable Hero. I couldn’t get enough of him. I loved how he was always there for Ember, but he didn’t let Ember jerk him around. He had this crazy balance of sweet and sexy confident male.

Which scene was your favorite?

I loved the beginning. I loved reading Ember’s emotions while she found out her father died. You just feel for her. You feel her pain, her emotions and even confusion. I love how Josh and Ember first meet and she didn’t have money to buy her own birthday cake! I was so sad and cute at the same time. I loved it.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Overall, it was a moving book. I think Josh and Ember’s dynamics were pretty intense, which makes sense because they re-met under a stressful situation.  I loved how put together the book was. Every scene and every moment was there for a reason. I liked how the beginning kind of connected with the ending. Totally blew my mind. It was perfect.

5 I-Want-To-Get-Dirty Stars

I picked up Getting Dirty for various reasons

-Hot cover Check

-Underage girl and older guy Check

-Newish author (existing author using a pen name) Check

-Promise of lots of sex Check

I’m cautious when I pick up an older/younger book. It can be cliché and predictable at times, but Getting Dirty wasn’t!

Getting Dirty is fast pace, kinky and very hot.

Blaire takes an upper level course at college, but she’s a senior in high school.  Caiden is the teacher’s assistant.

Do I even need to say more?

Blaire isn’t your typical seventeen year old. She’s valedictorian of her class, her parents are super smart and she acts like a twenty-something year old. I like that she is mature and isn’t your typical naïve virgin. She has a major crush on Caiden but knows he’s much much much older than her.

Blaire doesn’t have a boyfriend but she sometimes hooks up with her brother’s best friend! Isn’t it juicy?! I liked this. I liked that Blaire isn’t sitting at home crying over Caiden. 

Caiden thinks Blaire is a college student, but since she’s in the class he’s assisting, he can’t touch her. I really liked this too. Blaire keeping her age from Caiden isn’t the main problem, it’s a subplot, but I liked that Caiden is really interested in Blaire even though she can’t do anything about it.

In the meantime Blaire keeps to her studies and uses her brother’s best friend.  But she can’t stay away from Caiden and flirts with him like crazy.  She even goes bra less to get his attention! It’s really funny.

He can be fifthly and somehow that makes him hotter. It makes all us dirty girls want to get even dirtier with him.

Towards the 30% mark the book shifts and BAM! I was really shocked and really happy with the change. I felt like the book went into overdrive.

Getting Dirty has a lot of elements with a slightly taboo storyline. I liked how quick and steamy it was. I was never tired or bored.

“What year are you?” I don’t even realize I’ve said it until it’s out of my mouth.

Her eyes flick from the book to mine. “A senior.”

I feel my eyebrows arch before I can stop them. “You look younger.”

She bites her lips between her teeth for a moment. “Is that good or bad?”

“Neither, I suppose.” But my insides burn, knowing that she’s not as off-limits as I originally thought. It’s nearing the end of January. Commencement will be here soon enough. She graduates and all bets are off.

“So…” she says, twisting a finger into the ends of her hair. “I know you like old, dead poets. How do you feel about hearing something fresher?”

I lean toward her. “Such as?”

“I’m reading in a poetry slam tonight. It’s just something over at Tino’s in Jonestown on the fourth Friday of every month. There’s no prize money or anything, but I perform something new pretty much every month.”

“A poetry slam…” I want to say yes in the worst way, but it feels dangerously like a date.

She must read the hesitation in my eyes. “If it’s too weird, no worries. I just thought, since you like poetry…”

She leaves the thought dangling. Like a noose. And I jump right into it. “Yeah. Why not?”

The answer to that rhetorical question is that it’s not May yet and she hasn’t graduated. I’m risking everything I’ve worked the last three years toward. My entire future. But the voice of reason is being drowned out by the raging waves of something rolling up from the deepest layers of my being like an undertow. Something base and essential. And unrelenting.

“Do you want to meet me there?” she asks, standing from her seat and giving me a better view of the entire exquisite length of her.

“Yeah…that’s probably best.” Plausible deniability. No, Dr. Duncan, I didn’t have any clue she’d be there. Just went to hear the poetry.

“Great,” she says as she gathers her book and shoves it in her bag. “It starts at nine. There are usually five or six poets and it’s a random draw, so I don’t know what time I’ll be reading.”

I nod without standing, no longer able to tame my erection. “I’ll be there at nine.”

“You know where Tino’s is?”

Just a month before I turned seventeen, I met a man who was twenty-four. Our connection was instant. For months we kept it platonic, even though neither of us could deny the attraction. We never had the actual discussion, but we both knew our relationship would be viewed by others (including my parents and the law) as inappropriate. But, despite our best efforts, we fell in love and started dating when I was seventeen. I've always wanted to write a love story that reflected everything I was feeling at that age, in that situation. So here it is.

 

For you hesitant readers, I can tell you that this illegal affair is not glamorized or sensationalize. There are severe consequences to the actions my characters choose to take. #Hater (Hashtag, #2) by Cambria Hebert

It was during my first football game that I first felt the first chill of hate. I looked it right in the eyes and felt its sticky tentacles reach out for me. I’d never experienced something so cold and empty before.

4.5 Haters gonna Hate Stars

I think I love #Hater more than #Nerd and I really liked #Nerd.

I just can’t get over Romeo and Rimmel!!!

I will be honest, I was a little apprehensive in reading #Hater. How many second books are good when the story continues the couple (after they get together). Very few. Usually the author separates them or creates a crazy issue that can be solved with simple communication. BUT Cambria didn’t do that.

Cambria delivered and I am so thankful for that. She didn’t create stupid issues. She didn’t make me want to pull out my hair or give me crazy angst (I’m learning to like angst, but it’s just not my cup of tea).

#Hater continues Romeo and Rimmel’s story. This book picks up right where #Nerd left off. Romeo and Rimmel are together, yay! But Zach isn’t going to go away easily.

The beginning is SUPER cute because Rimmel is slowly trying to get comfortable being Romeo’s girlfriend. I like that she tries a little harder being girly (but without losing herself). I also like how she is proud to be Romeo’s girlfriend and stands up for herself (just a tiny bit more).

I also LOVE reading the second characters. I love Romeo’s best friend, but I’m starting to like Rimmel’s roommate and cross fingers that she gets a book too!

Of course we can’t forget Zach. He’s a villain I love to hate. I love nasty villains and the crazier the better in my opinion. I never know what he’s going to do and I never know how Zach and Rimmel is going to react. It adds a nice mild tension to the book.

What I love so much about #Hater is the fact that the couple don’t go against each other. It’s more about the couple verse the world. I simply love these books. I gobble them up like fudge cake, on my birthday or during that time of the month

Overall, I love this series. I love how cute it is. I love the characters. I love that I’m not even tired of the characters and I’m ready for the next book! I just simply love it. If you are a fan of #Nerd, you will not be disappointed with this one.
