4 Under-Covering Stars

Becoming Rain is a standalone that is part of the Burying Water series

I really liked Becoming Rain.  For one, it’s written differently than Burying Water (which I enjoyed as well). Becoming Rain does not have any flashbacks or prologue. You start from the beginning and it is read from start to finish. I loved this.

This is a romance novel, but it has some suspenseful elements too. It’s not overly romance and flowers, but there is some steam. I also liked this too. I felt like K.A. Tucker really developed the characters and I could bond and related to them.

Clara is an undercover officer. She is young and pretty and is the perfect person to try to attract Luke as Rain.  Luke works for his uncle Rust who owns a legitimate garage, but Rust also does some non-legitimate business on the side. Luke is slowly getting involved with the illegal activities.

Clara’s job is to get close to Luke and infiltrate the illegal business and shut it down.

I was nervous reading this because I usually don’t like reading a story where there’s a secret throughout the book (Clara working undercover), but it worked for me. I was completely engrossed with the story and I didn’t dwell on the elephant in the room. It was there in the background, but it never hinder my reading experience.

I love Clara and Luke’s relationship. Like I said, it’s a slow building relationship and you get to know them fairly well. Clara has internal struggles, she wants to do her job and put her career first, but slowly Luke is working himself into her heart. I also like how strong Clara is. She carries guns and knows how to defend herself.

No, Luke isn’t the big alpha Hero, but he’s sweet, caring and he just wants to be successful, even though he questions his actions throughout the book.

I liked reading the subplot. I enjoyed trying to figure out what is happening with Rust and the business. I enjoyed the business meetings and trying to figure out who is who and who is doing what. I think I’m just been in a suspenseful mood lately.

Overall, Becoming Rain really worked for me. I enjoyed the pace and the new writing style. K.A. Tucker always keeps it fresh and that’s why she’s one of my favorite authors I will never stop reading.

5 Fantastic-Banter-Lovin’-Teasing STARS

I LOVE THIS SERIES SO MUCH!!!!

I feel like every time I pick up a Tucker novel, I’m just setting myself up for a real treat. No books are alike and I love it. Five Ways to Fall is lighter than the previous books, but it’s still perfect.

Summary

Reese is a bit rebellious and response emotionally. She had a short marriage and after finding her tattoo husband with his ex, Reese divorced and landed herself in jail.

Reese’s ex-step-father is a lawyer and offers a deal to Reese. If Reese can clean up her act, she can move in with her step-father and become a paralegal.

Reese doesn’t have a place to stay, no money and decides this is the best offer. She accepts.

With a new hair-do and clothes, Reese starts her new life, but before she starts work she goes to Cancun for some fun in the sun and meets Ben. Ben is opposite of everything Reese finds attractive. Ben is blonde, has no tattoos and use to be a jock.

Reese

I’m always nervous when I read about damaged girls and girls who are still hung-up on their ex’s. However, I really liked Reese. I liked how she was this dark, wild thing and she realized that sometimes you need to take a step back and better yourself. I didn’t expect her to follow her step-father and pursue a white collar job.

Ben

Ben is adorable and I love how opposite he is to what Reese finds attractive. Yes, we all love those bad boys, but sometimes you just need to fall in love with a mama’s boy and I did that with Ben. I want Ben, I want to be with Ben and I want to have dinner with Ben and his mama.

Overall

I didn’t know what to expect with Five Ways to Fall, but I have to stay with the lightness of the read, it was a REAL treat. I love the banter between Reese and Ben. Reese and Ben don’t have a typical relationship. There’s no BS between them and there’s a lot of cute banter and dialogue. You can tell that they have feelings for each other, but they have their personal issues to deal with to start anything serious.

Reese has her daddy issues and Ben has his daddy issues too, but on top of that, both just don’t have a serious relationship. I can’t say this enough, but oh my gosh, this read was so good. There’s so much that goes on and what I enjoyed the most is seeing character development and watching the chemistry between Reese and Ben.

It’s just so GOOD!!!

I loved it, I love Tucker and I love this series.



Makes me want to do a happy dance!!!

Four Seconds to Lose (Ten Tiny Breaths, #3) - K.A. Tucker

What can happen in four seconds?

Words cannot convey how much I love this book.  I have to write a little intro, so if you are bored by lengthy reviews, I would advise you skip this part.  Four Seconds to Lose (FSTL) was EXACTLY want I needed and wanted. It was emotionally driven and well written.  Everything worked for me, from the character development, to the depth of detail, to the story line, to the issues, to the dialogue flow, EVERYTHING!

I need to clear the air here, first off, I hate hyping up a book and I know I am doing that now, so let me just explain to you why I think this book doesn’t work for some people.  FSTL, is not like Ten Tiny Breaths  or One Tiny Lie (both reads I LOVED).  Ten Tiny Breaths was a bit dark, but it had (like FSTL) a lot of emotions and heart.  One Tiny Lie was a bit steamier, with a lot of emotions, but it was just sexier.  FSTL is not a steamy read, but it for sure had nice sexual tension. FSTL was just gritty, dirty and raw, things I CRAVE in a dramatic read.

[Summary]

Charlie doesn’t have the most traditional upbringing.  Her dad is very demanding (mixed up in illegal activities) and while she is away trying to save money to maybe break free from her father, she decides to strip to bring in lots of cash.  Cain owns a strip club, he’s the perfect boss. He doesn’t sleep with his employees. He looks out for his workers and treats everyone fairly.  Cain has his own personal demons to work on, but once Charlie steps inside his club, somehow his demons resurface and it’s hard for him to stay away from the girl that looks exactly like the girl who haunts his past.

[My review]

The summary isn’t really the full story, it’s just the tip. I’m not the type to rehash the entire blurb, you can read that on your own. I also don’t like to say everything because I hate spoilers.  Finally I don’t like long reviews, BUT I do write them for the books I really love, so you have been warned, this will be a long review, but seriously, it’s worth it.

[Charlie]

Charlie is a phenomenal character.  All the characters are, but I’m going to focus on the Heroine. She’s strong, sassy and really smart.  I couldn’t believe she was 18, I felt like I was reading a girl in her mid-twenties (which is a good thing).  I loved how Tucker developed Charlie’s character. Charlie’s past was really interesting to me and I was enjoying her childhood memories (rare I know).  She had enough issues and problems to really warrant her actions and feelings. Everything she questioned, so did I.  She struggled throughout the whole book, but it was never once annoying, if anything it was completely endearing.

[Cain]

Oh Cain. I’m a HUGE duel POV fan, HUGE.  I also love it when the author can clearly write from two POV’s and Tucker does. Of course Cain has issues and we get a good chunk of why he is the way he is at the beginning and I loved knowing that. I felt Cain’s pain and it didn’t turn me off at all. I understood his struggles and his reasoning. I just wanted to reach through my book and tell him, god you are sexy and it’s okay baby, let’s make love. Seriously, he’s one tortured, yet beautiful, yet fuckable character.

[Overall]

The best part of the book is basically reading Cain and Charlie interactions with each other and all in the midst of struggling through past issues, external issues and bad people. I thrive on couple’s working-against-the-world kind of read.  FSTL is not a short book, but I wouldn’t have it any other way. Every paragraph and word was needed. I loved it.

I just wanted to take this moment to say, I REALLY enjoy reading authors shifting their books.  As much as I loved Ten Tiny Breaths and One Tiny Lie, Four Seconds to Lose was the perfect direction for Tucker to take.  To me, she took a huge risk, because it was nothing like the previous two yet it just shows her talent.  TO ME that is amazing. These are the books I crave, thrive and read for.

Can I read the books out of order? You can kind of, since each book references different characters, but I wouldn’t advise it. There are a few references from the previous books and I wouldn’t want anything to be spoiled.

Is there a cliffy? NO

Is there a love triangle or cheating? No and No

Is there book 4? Yes, it will be Ben’s book

Oh my god! I'm so excited about this book! I just got my copy a few days ago and I'm starting it ASAP! If you haven't read this series, you need to. It's only just simply amazing! I finally got to meet the wonderful Kathleen at the Houston Book Rave signing and oh my, it was awesome! She is so talented and I'm such a fan.

Character Interview - Livie and Ashton by K.A. Tucker

I am so excited about this post!  First, I LOVED LOVED LOVED One Tiny Lie and my 5 star review is HERE. Also the lovely K.A. Tucker will be at the Houston Book Rave in November and so will I, so I hope to see you there too!

Now... what a treat... I got to ask Livie and Ashton a few questions and so welcome them and here we go...

To Livie:

Ashton and Connor are so different, what made you drawn to both of them?

Well, Connor is almost too good to be true. He's everything I wanted. Or thought I wanted.  Handsome,  sweet, caring, smart. Focused on family. I was just so comfortable with him from the very beginning. And Ashton... well, I don't know how anyone can't be drawn to him. Even I, who fought it tooth and nail at first, couldn't help myself. It is all an act, of course. Once you get past his abrasive exterior, you'll find out that the guy beneath it is capable of softness and love.

To Ashton:

You are Mr. Player and can have any girl you want, but what was it about Livie that made her so hard to resist? 

She punched me. I kissed her and she punched me. How can you resist a girl like that?

To Livie:

Your sister is a little bit wild and you are more controlled, yet the two of you are best friends, how does that work? 

I think we're the perfect balance of each other. It helps that I'm so tolerant of her eccentricities. On the flip side, she has been there for me when it really counted. All of her choices have been for me. So, crazy or not, she's my life. 

To Livie:

What’s the best quality you find in Ashton? 

His tolerance. He doesn't judge anything or anyone. He doesn't judge me, even when I say or do stupid things, or when I don't know what the hell I want and start to panic.

To Ashton:

What is your favorite memory/moment with Livie? 

The moment she surprised me on the dance floor that first night and earned her nickname. I was going to leave her alone but, after that, I knew I had to have her.

To Ashton and Livie:

What’s in store for the both of you? What should we expect? 

We have no idea. That's the beauty of it. Our story has been told but you may see more of us down the road, in Ben's story.
