Nova and Quinton: No Regrets (Nova, #3) by Jessica Sorensen

Now Available in Paperback!

The toxic guilt of his past left Quinton Carter in pieces-until one girl unexpectedly put him back together. Thanks to Nova Reed, Quinton sees the world with clear eyes. And though he'd eventually love to hold her in his arms every day... he's not ready yet.

Playing drums in a band and living with her best friends are just some of the highlights of Nova's life. But the best new development? Talking to Quinton on the phone each night. She wishes she could be with him, but she knows he needs time to heal. Yet, shocking news is on the way, and Nova will need Quinton like he once needed her. Is he strong enough to leap out of his broken past...and into Nova's heart?

 4 Healing Stars

I have a love and hate relationship with Jessica Sorensen books. I love her books, but I hate the way it makes me feel. I feel a lot when I read her books and it makes me into a hair-pulling mess, but at the end of it, I kind of like it.

I’m crazy, but I can’t help myself.

It’s the third Quinton and Nova book and wow, what did just happen? After EVERYTHING Nova tried to do, Quinton fell off the deep end.

I was an emotional wreck after I finished Saving Quinton. I just needed some time to process my thoughts. Now, I’m starting Nova and Quinton: No Regrets, I’m ready to start this journey. WHERE EVER IT MAY LEAD ME

The book begins where Quinton is just released from rehab and I’m so happy I don’t have to read his experiences in that place. I just wanted to see how Quinton will function in the real world. Will he relapse? Will he continue to push Nova away? What will he do with himself? I had so many questions.

When Quinton leaves rehab he goes and lives with his father. Quinton is TRYING REALLY HARD not to relapse.  His recovery and being sober are the main things he is focusing on.  As much as he cares for Nova, he can’t have her interfering with his goal. Hence, why he is keeping her at a distance.

Nova cares for Quinton and even though they haven’t spoken, she keeps tabs on Quinton through Tristan. Nova currently lives with Lea and Tristan and Tristan is starting to get touchy with Nova. Nova is a little apprehensive of this because she still cares for Quinton, but she doesn’t like confrontation.

I know! The whole Tristan and Nova thing makes me super nervous because I can’t stand love-triangles, but is this really a love-triangle? Not really. I liked the whole Tristan dynamic because it added a little something something to the book.

Quinton and Nova do start communicating through phone calls and texts and before you say oh it’s going to be boring, it isn’t! Because I’m so concern if Quinton will relapse, I don’t really notice Nova and Quinton having a long distance relationship.

I never thought I’d experience this ever again. Never thought it would be possible to be with someone else like this and not feel pain and anguish, but for the briefest moment they’re gone and I am free

I feel like this was the perfect third book, in the sense you get a little bit of the calm after the storm. Saving Quinton was a rough read and I needed something mellow to chill my emotions. I liked reading Quinton trying to atone for his actions and yes he is still trying to get over the Lexi thing. Nova isn’t dramatic and she really is trying to be a better person. There’s always that underlying feeling that something may happen and it really keeps you a bit jumpy, but it wouldn’t be a Sorensen if it wasn’t.  If you liked the previous books, then continue on!

Prologue

Nova

December 28, the day of the funeral

It’s a strange feeling, getting ready to watch someone get put under the ground into their final resting place. I’ve been to enough funerals to know that my senses always become hyper-aware of everything going on around me: the touch of the wind seems stronger, the sun a little more blinding, the smell of the leaves, grass, and fresh dirt overpowering. It’s like my mind is reaching out and trying to grasp each aspect of the moment, when part of me wants nothing more than to forget.
I’m actually at the church earlier than I’m supposed to be and I don’t even know why, other than that sitting home for a second longer just didn’t seem possible. So I left the house without telling anyone and got in my cherry-red Chevy Nova, the car my dad left to me when he died, and drove it to the church where my dad’s and Landon’s funeral took place. And in just a bit, I’ll say good-bye to another person I once knew and will never see again.

Now that I’m here, staring at the brick building with a white tower pointing to the sky, I’m not sure what I should do. I’m three hours early to a funeral, which might say a lot about me. A lot of people would likely show up late, wanting to avoid death for as long as possible, but I’ve become so familiar with it it’s unsettling.

After sitting in the car for about ten minutes, watching snowflakes fall from the sky and frost the grass and the windshield, I decide to take video instead. I didn’t bring the fancy camera my mom gave me, but the one on my phone works and honestly I use that one a lot more because it’s handy for sporadic recording, which seems to be my specialty.

I blow out a deep breath as I sit back in the seat, aim the camera at myself, and hit record. I have the screen flipped to me and my image immediately pops up. I look tired. The bags under my eyes are pretty obvious, even though I’ve tried to cover them up with makeup, and my brown hair wasn’t being cooperative so I ended up pulling it up into a ponytail. I’m wearing a black dress and earrings and the contrast with my fair skin makes me look pallid.

“It’s amazing how everything can seem so perfect one moment and then suddenly it’s not. How quickly perfection can evaporate… how rare it is.” I pause, gathering my thoughts. “I’ve seen a lot of death. More than the normal person, probably. I watched my father’s life vanish in front of me within minutes. Found my boyfriend’s body right after he took his own life. Too early. Too suddenly. Both of them. I never had time to prepare myself and I thought it was the worst feeling in the world. I always wondered how different it would be, if it ever happened again. If maybe the third or fourth time around, I wouldn’t hurt so badly. If it’d be easier letting someone go now that I’ve had so much practice.” I tuck a fallen strand of my bangs behind my ear and swallow the lump in my throat. “And maybe it has gotten easier… but it still hurts. I still shed tears… it’s still agonizing… painful…” I trail off as a few tears slip from my eyes and roll down my cheeks. “Even now, just thinking about some of the stuff I saw… I should have stopped it… should have done things differently…” I trail off, staring at the window. “But I didn’t… and now they’re gone forever.”

Saving Quinton (Nova, #2) by Jessica Sorensen

Saving Quinton (Nova, #2)Saving Quinton by Jessica Sorensen
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

4 What??!! ending Stars

I'm in complete shock.

I was debating if I wanted to start Saving Quinton so soon after finishing Breaking Nova, but I really wanted to see how Nova saves Quinton, I mean, based on the title, it should be about Nova saving Quinton right?

Let me sum up what happens….

The beginning is a little intro to what Nova and Quinton have been up to. Nova is going to school and Quinton is still taking drugs, now meth.

Nova goes to see Quinton and try to “save” him
Quinton acts like a drugged up junkie and pushes Nova away

Nova visits Quinton again to “save” him
Quinton acts like a drugged up junkie and pushes Nova away

Nova visits Quinton again to “save” him
Quinton acts like a drugged up junkie and pushes Nova away

And on and on and on…, you will want to pull your hair out, but in a very good way... sometimes you need this kind of angst

Then you get to the climatic ending…. Where Quinton basically falls off the deep end and you can just imagine what I think of the Hero.

And all of this time I am thinking to myself, why didn’t she just try to get help from adults and push Quinton to go to rehab? I was also a little frustrated with the flashbacks. I wasn't fond of the Lexi and Landon flash backs. I got the relationships in Breaking Nova, now I want to focus on the current on, Nova and Quinton.

Overall, I enjoyed the way it was written (the flow) and even though I wanted to throw my tablet across the room several times and I wanted to punch Quinton in the face, Saving Quinton was an intense, but enjoyable read… and the ending will leave you surprised, shocked and gasping.

I forget Jessica is known for her cliffys, but I didn’t think I would be so shaken up by the ending. The climatic ending was VERY DRAMATIC, it was a little intense. I get Nova likes Quinton and she wants to save him because she couldn’t save Landon, but sometimes a Hero can push you too far. I haven't given up on Quinton yet, but he's boarder line close.

Overall, if you are a fan of the series, you love the up and down roller coaster and you are okay losing a few hairs because you have been pulling them out, then this is for you.

I'm going to continue with the series, because I can't help to find out what happens.

Giveaway! The Temptation of Lila and Ethan by Jessica Sorensen

Summary

THE TEMPTATION OF LILA AND ETHAN by Jessica Sorensen (May 6, 2014; Forever Trade Paperback; $12.00)

On the surface, Lila Summers is flawless: good looks, expensive clothes, and a big, beautiful smile. But a dark past and even darker secrets are threatening to bubble over her perfect façade. She'll do anything to keep the emptiness inside hidden—which leads her into situations that always end badly. Whenever she hits bottom, there's only one person who's there to pull her out: Ethan Gregory.

Ethan set the rules a long time ago: he and Lila are just friends. He doesn't do relationships. Although his tattooed, bad boy exterior is a far cry from Lila's pretty princess image, Ethan can't deny they have a deeper connection than he's used to. If he's not careful, he could be in serious danger of becoming attached-and he's learned the hard way that attachment only leads to heartbreak.

When Lila falls farther than she ever has before, can Ethan continue to help as a friend? Or is he also getting close to falling . . . for her?

What do you get?! - > A Jessica Sorensen novel!!!!

The non-paranormal Jessica Sorensen reads kind of all sound the same after some time, but I was surprised on how much I enjoyed The Temptation of Lila and Ethan. I think I enjoyed it because it had new characters and slightly new issues. Also, I didn’t want to slap anyone in the face.

Lila is the pretty rich girl who isn’t loved by her parents. Her mom is verbally abusive and Lila has no support system, because of this, she ends up getting hurt at fourteen, which leads her to depend on drugs and sex. Ethan isn’t going anywhere in life, but loves his girlfriend London. London isn’t good for Ethan because she does drugs and loves it. After an accident, Ethan life changes and he decides to move away and start over.

I don’t think there are good guys and bad guys anymore. I don’t even know what I am

Lila and Ethan cross paths in the previous two books from the Micha and Ella series. I’ve always been curious about Lila because her character is so different from Ella. I thought there would be a lot of Micha and Ella interaction in this book, but there isn’t and I’m so okay with that.

I simply wanted a Lila and Ethan novel and I got it. As much as I complain that Jessica’s books are kind of similar there is something about her writing which kind of draws you in. You feel the character’s emotions and pain.

Lila is the crazy one in the book. She’s a big mess and is going downhill fast. Ethan on occasion does help Lila out, like when she wakes up the next morning from a hook up and needs a ride home. Lila and Ethan’s banter is very cute and I enjoy the dialogue. If I could describe their relationship is that they are one ball of SEXUAL TENSION!

The sexual tension was crazy in this book. You will be just reading and reading and reading waiting for the good stuff. I couldn’t put the book down and finished in on sitting and it’s a long book in my opinion.

Ethan has his issues as well and he’s very closed off. I was wondering if there would be a cliffy and I am happy to say NO! Thank my goodness!

Overall, The Temptation of Lila and Ethan was a great read and a great break between the Micha and Ella storyline.

Excerpt
“Why do you think it’s so hard to be alone?” Lila asks, struggling to keep her eyes open as she gazes out at the night sky through the cab window.
I’m turned sideways in the seat, with my knee up, so I’m facing her, even though she won’t look at me. I lost count of how many shots we had hours ago and I can barely comprehend how we got to a cab—stumbling, laughing, as she rubbed her hand up the front of my jeans. No, that can’t be right, can it?
“I think being alone is fan-fucking-tastic. . . well, maybe . . .sometimes . . .” I mumble, draping my arm on the back of the seat. I stare at her for a moment, taking in her bare skin in the moonlight. I want to touch it. Lick it. Even bite it.
I’m bursting with sexual energy and I channel it to my foot on the floor, bouncing my knee. There’s something different about tonight, something out of the ordinary, this strange need
to keep getting closer to Lila. It could be the alcohol. Or it could be something else, but there’s no way my tequila-soaked mind is going to reach any sort of answer.
Lila turns her head toward me, her pupils wide and shiny. “Why are you staring at me like that?”
I keep tapping my foot on the floor, trying to think of a better answer than the first one that pops into my head, but I can’t find one. “Because I’m thinking about you.”
She glances at the cab driver, a thirtyish guy wearing a baseball cap, and then her gaze lands back on me. She sucks her lip into her teeth and I have to bounce my knee faster or I swear I’m going to fucking lose it. “Thinking what about me?” she asks, looking wary, interested, and exhausted.
Don’t say it . . . “I was thinking about what it would be like to lick you . . . or bite you . . . either one really.” It seems like I should regret it as soon as I say it, but regret is nowhere in my
reach at the moment.
Her breathing quickens and her voice comes out shockingly unsteady for someone who has sex so much. “Then do it.”
I blink, wondering if I heard her right through the massive amount of alcohol consuming my thoughts. “What?”
She holds my gaze steadily, even though she seems really nervous, her voice trembling. “Then bite me. Or lick me…whatever you want.”

Book Review - The Redemption of Callie & Kayden (The Coincidence #2) by Jessica Sorensen

5 Soul Searching Stars

I didn’t have any expectations going into The Redemption of Callie and Kayden.  I thought The Coincidence of Callie and Kayden was an overall enjoyable read, but when I was left a little disappointed with The Forever of Ella and Micha, I didn’t know what to expect.

The Redemption of Callie and Kayden was enjoyable, moving and will leave you with a satisfying feeling despite the closed-ended cliffy.  Do not be deter in reading because of the close-ended cliffy, really it’s not, it just leads you to book 3.

Every action Callie and Kayden did was called for. I understood them, I got them and I was never annoyed, frustrated or bored. This is when you know an author is writing for their readers. There’s no BS and there’s no stupid issue, all the emotions and conflictions are valid and expressed beautifully.

My pet peeves with a lot of reads are books with ridiculous characters.  I am talking about when there is an issue that could be easily solved with a 15 minute conversation. You do not get that in The Redemption of Callie and Kayden and OH.THANK.GOD!

This is where my review stops being spoiler free. I will address the issues referencing book 1, so if you haven’t read it, stop reading this review.

The book picks up where book 1 leaves off.  Kayden is in “rehab” and Callie is still dealing with the rape.  I would describe this book as two damaged souls searching for peace with the help of each other, but with a shit load of problems.  Kayden can be a major dick. He’s very closed off and he continues to push Callie away and really you love him more for it.

I loved Callie. I thought she was strong, with flaws and all. So I’ve been debating if I should reference this, but I like to call myself an honest reviewer, so with that said, I understand what Callie is going through. I’ve battle with my personal issue for seven years. It’s an addiction and it’s very controlling. I’ve seen therapists and only a few people know. So I am always nervous when I read a Herione having that similar problem, but Jessica Sorensen nailed it.

Callie is the most stunning, incredible, kind, loving person I’ve ever met. It has to mean something that she cares for me

She owns me and I want nothing more to be with her. I’m here, sitting with her, and she’s amazing and keeps my heart beating.

Everything Callie said and did, I understood. I understood being underweight, I understood where it wasn’t about being skinny, I understood about being “clean” and getting those negative emotions out. I got it and it really rounded Callie’s character.

I am not sure if The Redemption of Callie and Kayden is for everyone simply because a lot of the issues addressed in the book, some readers can take personally.  I have known people who cut themselves and it’s a very difficult battle to overcome.  You become sort of a different person when you are in midst of the act and you will say what-ever you need to say to get the action done. That was a beautiful scene.

I didn’t rate this book 5 stars because of my personal issue, I rated it because it was a beautiful, sad and dramatic story with a lot of obstacles that could have easily been written as cliché or too dramatic, but it wasn’t. Like I said, it’s a beautifully written story. I recommend.
