Legend (Real #6) by Katy Evans [REVIEW]

Maverick “the Avenger” Cage wants to rise to the top and become a legend in the ring. Though he keeps his identity well guarded, he's known on the fighting circuit as the new kid with a chip on his shoulder and a tattoo on his back that marks him as trouble. He's got a personal score to settle with the Underground's one and only Remington "Riptide" Tate.

As Mav trains, he meets a young girl—the only other new person in the town--and sparks fly. When things get heated between them, he finds out she's none other than Reese Dumas, the cousin of Remington Tate’s wife. A girl who's supposed to root against him and a girl he's supposed to stay away from.

But Maverick fights for the woman in his heart, and the monsters in his blood. The world’s eyes are on them and the victor will go down in history as the ultimate fighting champion; the ultimate LEGEND.

Fighting Silence (On the Ropes #1) by Aly Martinez

Sound is an abstract concept for most people. We spend our lives blocking out the static in order to focus on what we believe is important. But what if, when the clarity fades into silence, it's the obscure background noise that you would give anything to hold on to?

I've always been a fighter. With parents who barely managed to stay out of jail and two little brothers who narrowly avoided foster care, I became skilled at dodging the punches life threw at me. Growing up, I didn’t have anything I could call my own, but from the moment I met Eliza Reynolds, she was always mine. I became utterly addicted to her and the escape from reality we provided each other. Throughout the years, she had boyfriends and I had girlfriends, but there wasn't a single night that I didn’t hear her voice.

You see, meeting the love of my life at age thirteen was never part of my plan. However, neither was gradually going deaf at the age of twenty-one.

They both happened anyway.

Now, I'm on the ropes during the toughest battles of my life.

Fighting for my career.

Fighting the impending silence.

Fighting for her.

Every night, just before falling asleep, she sighs as a final conscious breath leaves her.

I think that's the sound I'll miss the most.

5 Shattering Stars

All the reviews are justified. Fighting Silence is a fantastic book. It’s emotional, gripping and there was never a dull moment.

Fighting Silence is a standalone and is part of the On the Ropes series.

I loved it.

Till and Eliza don’t have the ideal childhood. Till is extremely poor and doesn’t have the best home life. His mom is neglectful and he ends up taking care of his two younger brothers often. Till is a player and lives it up in high school. Eliza is poor as well. She’s a spunky girl and is the opposite of cool.

What I enjoyed the most is the pace. Fighting Silence reads from start to finish and I gobble these books up like mad, there’s slight foreshadowing in the beginning, but I got over it quickly (this has always been a pet peeve of mine).

The beginning starts with Till and Eliza as children. They first run into each other at the apartment complex and Till uses Eliza’s to “escape” from his rough living situation. They just hang out and talk. It’s incredibly endearing and cute.

Eliza loves to draw and is usually found sketching and keeping to herself. Till is curious by Eliza and forges a friendship with her, but only in private. When they are in school, Till ignores her. Eliza is fine by this. She starts to form a mild crush on Till, but doesn’t act on it because guys like Till don’t go for girls like Eliza.

I like the mild requited love and I like how Eliza doesn’t ever pursue her feelings. The friendship they form is like I said, sweet, cute and very entertaining to read. Eliza betters Till and Till does everything he can to keep Eliza in his life, but in a platonic way.

Overtime, they grow and so does the friendship, but the books starts to shift and it gets a little angst and a little intense and I liked it a lot.

I love the little brothers as well. I loved that everyone works as unit and as a big “happy” family. There’s a lot that goes on and I was just on edge the whole time. Till eventually falls into boxing and it becomes his outlet, but not everything is as easy as it seems and the problems they face take the book to a whole new level.

Fighting Silence worked for me because I liked the relationship between Till and Eliza. I liked his protectiveness, his roughness and all the crazy in his life. I like how Eliza grounds him and is always kind and gentle. I liked all the obstacles the couple faces and how important family is to them.

It’s a great book. I recommend.

Rogue (Real, #4) by Katy Evans

Rogue (Real, #4)Rogue by Katy Evans
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

5 Oh my Greyson King Stars

I love this series, it just leaves me with warm fuzzy feelings. This is Greyson’s story. This isn’t a boxing/fighting book, it’s more about redemption and seeking peace. It kind of has an “assassin” feel, which I love.

Summary

Greyson has to collect payment from 48 people. Once he finishes his list, Greyson’s father will provide Greyson’s mom’s location.

Melanie is struggling financially. She doesn’t have time to entertain herself with a mysterious stranger that helps her out of the rain, but she indulges, just once.

Melanie

I like Melanie. She’s young, strong and very independent. She’s stuck in the rain and a sexy guy offers to help her out. Of course there’s insta-lust, which I thought would turn me off, but it doesn’t. It just adds more character to Melanie and Grey’s story.

Greyson

Oh Greyson, he’s so damaged, so flawed and so tortured. His mother was taken away from him and he has spent most of his life looking for her. He hates his father and doesn’t have time for Melanie because of his list, but he also can’t keep away from her. I love Greyson because of his past and his pain. You feel it and I love how he allows Melanie in his life, even though he shouldn’t.

Overall

I love how different Rogue is from the Remy and Brooke stories. Honestly I didn’t want to read the same Hero and I didn’t. I felt like Rogue was a little deeper, but not as intense. I liked how it’s really about boxing / fighting. I liked how it was simply about Melanie and Greyson and also Greyson’s struggle with juggling the relationship and his list.

I loved how powerful and dominate Greyson is, it wouldn’t be a Katy Evan’s book if he wasn’t. If you are a fan of the series and want something a little different, then Rogue is for you.

Down and Out by Kelley R. Martin

Down and Out (Knockout Love #1)Down and Out by Kelley R. Martin
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

4 Fighting Stars

If you are a fan of the Worth Fighting Series, then Down and Out is for you. It has the right amount of romance and fighting to keep you interested

Savannah

I love me a damsel in distress lady and Savannah fits the bill. She bounces from job to job, doing almost anything she can to save enough money for college. She’s homeless and can barely take care of herself. She finds a help wanted sign in front of a gym and decides to apply.

Declan

Declan is the sexy owner of the gym and automatically has a soft spot for Savannah. She looks disheveled and in a need of rescuing, the only thing is, Declan is no Hero. Declan is a sexy fighter with a bad reputation, but there’s something about Savannah that can’t keep him away from her.

Review

I’m a major fan of fighting books and when it’s revolved around an alpha hero that owns a gym, I dunno, it just gets me happy. Declan is oh lickable and sweet at the same time.

I trade punches for a living, but nobody can hurt me like you. Nobody can land a hit like you and leave me as breathless and torn up.

What made me a fan is the dialogue, Down and Out has a lot of it and THANK YOU. I’m never a fan of descriptive writing. I just love the banter between Savannah and Declan. You will be smiling and cracking up.

Declan sees Savannah living in her car and feels really bad so he offers her a place to stay, with him! I know, it makes for a juicy read. Declan and Savannah embark on a light and causal relationship, but of course there is nothing light about Declan.

As long as I’m alive and breathing, you’ll be my Kitten. It doesn’t matter how many miles you put between us or how much time passes. I’ll never not think of you as mine.

Overall

Overall, Down and Out was a nice read. I did want a little more tension at times, but maybe because I’m just in an angsty mood. The pace is light and a little slow, which I know will work with a lot of people. If you are a fan of fighting books, then this one is for you.

Worth the Chance (MMA Fighter, #2) by Vi Keeland

Worth the Chance (MMA Fighter, #2)Worth the Chance by Vi Keeland
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

4 Fighting Stars

Got to love my MMA Fighter books. Worth the Chance is a light, easy romance read

Olivia (Liv) was Vinny’s tutor in high school. They had an intense, but innocent relationship. Seven years later, Liz is now a reporter and Vinny is a MMA fighter. Liz has to do a story and interview Vinny, but it’s hard to keep her emotions at bay since things didn’t end too nicely between her and Vinny seven years ago.

I really like light and easy books. Worth the Chance was just happy and nice. I was drawn within the first few chapters and I wanted to get to know Liz and Vinny. I didn’t even get upset with the few flashback scenes, because I wanted to know what happened seven years ago.

Liz is a smart, sexy, reporter and works hard at her job. She is working as an intern and wants a full time position at the newspaper. As she interviews Vinny, it’s hard not to be charmed by his flirtatious manner. Vinny is this sexy fighter with chip on his shoulder. His mom is a drug addict and he’s taken care of himself all his life. He loves to fight and he loves women, but he doesn’t respect them. He knows he doesn’t deserve Liz, but that doesn’t stop him from pursuing her.

I was really happy with everything until the 50% mark and that’s when the book shifts and we get to the “tension” … you know the plot.

I really don’t like “issues” being an issue when it can be easily resolved with a conversation

I usually describe this problem as “angst” and I wouldn’t call Worth the Chance a book with a lot of angst, but an irritating plot. I felt like I was waiting throughout the whole book for you know what to hit the fan. I was on edge and I didn’t like it. It thus made the book become a little too predictable and I was getting disappointed.

On a good note the whole “issue” wasn’t a HUGE deal, I mean, yes it was there and yes I was cagy, but there was plenty of Liz and Vinny banter and steamy scenes to keep me entertained. I will continue with the story, because I am really interested in Jax’s story.

Worth the Fight (MMA Fighter, #1) by Vi Keeland

Worth the Fight (MMA Fighter, #1)Worth the Fight by Vi Keeland
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

4 Stars

Worth The Fight is an easy, fast-pace, boxing romance

Elle is a lawyer. She’s independent and not really looking for a relationship. She has a friendship with benefits kind of thing with her co-worker William, but she doesn’t see herself in a serious relationship with him. He just doesn’t do it for her, but scratch her weekly itch. Nico is a MMF fighter and has been out of the ring for over a year. He still trains and prepares for fights, but no fights are scheduled. A previous fight ending badly made Nico second guess if he will ever fight again.

Nico wants to get out of a contract and consults with Elle for help. Nico, The Lady Killer, is very attracted to Elle and tries to pursue her. Nico isn’t Elle’s type. He has tattoos, he’s a MMF fighter and is rough around the edges, but Elle can’t stop thinking about Nico.

Elle and Nico have a crazy attraction towards each other. I would even call it insta-lust. I kind of wished Elle did something adorable to get Nico’s attention, instead of just being attractive. He basically looked at her and asked her out. It was a little too realistic for my taste.

I will admit, when I first started reading Worth The Fight, I was really put off. Elle was describing her relationship with William and I just don’t understand girls being with people that they do not care about. Is sex that important that you string a person along? Her relationship with William wasn’t a focal point in the book, so I was okay with it overall.

Of course Elle and Nico have past issues. I expected this and wanted it. Something happened to Elle that still haunts her and gives her nightmares and the same with Nico. Are the issues enough to warrant drama? I guess. Do these issues kind of push each other away? A little, there’s enough tension to keep you interested, but not too much where I got angry.

The steamy is pretty apparent in the beginning and it was yummy to read. Yes, Worth The Fight does mirror a lot like other boxing books, like Real, but it’s not like it hinder my reading experience. It was a quick, fast-pace read with some steamy, funny and dramatic scenes.
