I have a thing for nerds, what can I say? Doesn't this little novella look adorable? Yes I do.  This will be re-releasing on September 15th! If you are interested in the read, enter the giveaway and contact the author.

Geekus Interruptus

Marcy Margate has it all: she's young, rich, and built like Barbie. She isn't the brightest bulb in the chandelier, but the girl's got sass and spunk to spare. Plus, she's sizzling hot. When her marriage to a real live genius starts to dim and grow cool, she's tempted to fool around with the horny neighbor. It would be so simple to revert to her former loose, single-gal ways, so easy to take the sleazy way out.

But Marcy loves her husband, even if Jess Margate is from the planet of the nerds. She decides to play it smart for a change. Using spyware and creative strategy, she plots to find out why her geek has been interruptus. Armed with the latest in miniature technology, Marcy plans to uncover the cause for the downtime in their love life.

A modern romantic comedy of hot errors and hotter apologies, Geekus Interruptus is a story for our time. Because these days, nerds rule. And geeks have guilty pleasures too--some quite different than our own.

EXCERPT

At dinner Sunday night, Jess ate quietly, his eyes downcast. He pushed his boiled red potatoes around with a fork and avoided the broccoli casserole entirely. A thick slice of roast beef (rare, the way he liked it) sat untouched, bleeding into a pool in the center of his dinner plate.

"How's work going?" Marcy asked.

She was hesitant to chatter about her day like she usually did, for fear of blurting out her recent spy activities or demanding he tell her what the fuck he was up to. Her nerves were on the edge of something. A dangerous something that could easily blow her cover. So she tried to make small talk and found herself unable to ask her husband a single leading question about his recent work. Like, How's the X account? Or, Did you complete the Y software design? Over the last year or so, she hadn't taken much interest in the details of Jess's work life. And it showed.

"Slow," he replied. "Maybe I'm over the crest."

He stabbed an innocent chunk of potato and brought it to his mouth before setting it back on the plate where he seemed to think it belonged.

"What crest? What're you talking about?"

He looked at her, or maybe through her.

"What I mean, Marce," he said slowly, as if talking to a dimwitted child, "is when you hit a certain age, you no longer come up with worthwhile innovations. Your brain is incapable of making the connections required for new leaps in design. In the field of mathematics, this brick wall to creativity can appear by the time you turn thirty. I'm afraid software engineering's a young man's game."

She laughed but stopped abruptly when she realized he was serious. Cresting at thirty? It seemed a ridiculous concern for a brilliant man like Jess.

"I'm not kidding, Marce. And there's plenty of scientific research on brain development to back up what I'm saying. I've got maybe ten years left, then I'll be fully over the hill. While the youngsters fresh off their post-docs take over the world."

He popped a potato chunk into his mouth, then thought better of it and spit into his linen napkin. Geeks had the worst table manners. She'd had to learn to live with it.

Marcy reached for his hand and covered it with her own.

"I'm sure you have plenty of genius left in you, darling," she said.

In fact, she had no doubt. The idea he was washed up at thirty-one was nonsense. Was it this sort of crazy thinking that had propelled him into the arms of another woman? Was he suffering from decaying self-esteem, bizarre geek phobias, some sort of engineer's block?

An idea formed in her mind. Wouldn't hot sex with his devoted wife help boost his deflation? Couldn't the old in-and-out be a kind of cure for his work-related depression?

She stood up and posed, pushing her breasts and ass into pre-coital position, moving her hips back and forth, swaying gently just beyond his nose. Jess continued to stare blankly at his bloody beef.

Marcy sucked in her breath. She hated being turned down. It was totally humiliating. But Jess seemed to be in need of a good fucking. Maybe she could win back his attention using the old tricks. She swallowed her pride and prepared for action.

Slowly, loudly, dramatically, she unzipped her tennis skirt, daring him to glance over. His eyes drifted to her hips, then up to her face. Marcy smiled, licking her lips and pouting as she dropped the little white skirt to the floor. She thrust out her chest and, quickly now, lifted her tight, white T-shirt over her head. No bra, no panties, recently waxed, glistening with coconut oil, and doused liberally with Truth or Dare. She walked to him, watching as he stared glumly at her approach.

"Maybe this will make you feel young again," she said.

Kayla's POV

Everything around me was disappearing. Sounds were beginning to muffle and my vision was going. A sudden sharp pain shot through my chest and the last of my breath left my lungs. The pain that had been constant was lessening. It was like I was going numb. Suddenly I felt like I was no longer part of my body. I felt like I was watching him hit, kick, punch and toss me.

There was a crashing noise and more noise sounded in the room. It was like someone else had come into the room. The pain was leaving me and with it everything faded as well.

“Oh God, baby. Hang on sunshine the…”

A feather floating in the breeze has no weight, but glides seamless to its final resting place. The feather floats through the air, raising and lowering with any breeze. No matter the amount of wind that may be there, the feather will land and rest on the ground. Gravity takes hold of everything even something as insignificant as a feather, changing the direction it could have been and taking it where it wants, but the end will be the same. The feather will land on the ground.

Like the feather floating casually to the ground, everything around me did the same. It all faded until there was nothing left. I was nothing. Suddenly what seemed like a bright and happy world dimmed and disappeared; lost to me…

5 Rule Breaking- I Have a HUGE smile on my face- Beautiful Stars

There’s a reason why Beautiful Broken Rules has rave reviews and ratings, it’s JUST.THAT.GOOD.
If you want a fun, happy, light-hearted read that will truly put you in a good mood, then Beautiful Broken Rules is for you.

Emerson (Emmy) is a slut and knows it.  She also has three rules for dating guys and she NEVER breaks them.

Rule #1 --- > Never sleep with someone that a friend has feelings for.

Rule #2 ---- > Never sleep with someone who is in a known relationship (when this isn’t disclosed to me, it is not my fault)

Rule #3 ---- > Never sleep with someone more than three times.

Jaxon and his brother Jace are best friends with Emmy’s best friend Cole.  This year, Jaxon and Jace move in with Cole, who happens to lives next door to Emmy.  Jaxon may be the one to help Emmy reform, if only he can get her to stop pushing him away.

Whatever, your heart knows what I am talking about, and one day your brain will catch up

This book was recommended to me by my BBF and she knows I am a very picky person when I read. So when I started the first page, I’ll tell ya…. I WAS HOOKED! From start to finish, there was not a dull moment and this read is completely a page turner.

The number one reason why I loved this book so much is because there is no love triangle and there is no cheating, in fact the main Heroine is very adamant in not cheating. Do I typically like books where the Heroine is a slut? No, but do I like Emmy? YES, in fact I LOVED her and you get why she is the way she is. I love how she is confident, sassy and just doesn’t let people bring her down.

You reckless, frustratingly beautiful girl, why are you out here all alone?

You deserve to know how great it can be for someone to care about you. I don’t even know what a good relationship is.

The beginning starts off with Emmy waking up from a hook-up, I know… I shake my head too, but it’s really funny, especially when she can’t find her clothes and yes has a meet cute with Jaxon! Oh Lord, let me tell you about Jaxon, he is so freakin’ swoon-worthy, drool-worthy, I- want-to-ride-his-bike please alpha male (and I have no desire to ride bikes).

Jaxon and Emmy’s “relationship” is adorable. It’s basically Jaxon trying to tame the wild Emmy. And let me tell you …there are no frustrating parts. Emmy doesn’t go in circles and I never wanted to rip my hair out. The writing was smooth, but there was plenty of tension to be engaging and entertaining.  I really needed this read after a few dramatic ones.  Oh and the side characters, I LOVE THEM.  Quinn (Emmy’s best friend), Jace, and Cole, are all awesome and I am stoked about book 2, Jace’s Story.

Kimberly Lauren is a fantastic writer and if you were on the fence with Beautiful Broken Rules, I am here to take you off your fence. Yes, all five feet and two inches of me will pick you up and take you off. Read it!

Interview

What inspired you to become a writer?

I actually never wanted to be a writer, but I had that first scene of Emerson at the frat house in my head for some reason and after I wrote it down, more and more continued to come.

Emerson isn’t your typical Heroine, what made you decide to write such a strong and sassy gal?

I'll be honest, I love the promiscuous male male characters that meet THE ONE and change all of their ways for her. When I wrote Emerson in the frat house, I just started thinking about role reversals.

What can we expect from book 2,  Jace’s story?

Oh boy, I feel like a lot is going on. Each couple is impacted in some way. It's fun to have this gang all together again. Their friendship is so much fun to write. It's their last year of college - so they are started to think about the future.

You are originally from Dallas (like me!) ever thinking of moving back to Texas?

Yes - thank God! It's been almost eight years. We moved to San Diego then to Germany then back to California. But finally in a couple months we should be back in Texas!

How long did it take for you to write Beautiful Broken Rules?

BBR took me a little under 2 months to write - Jace's story on the other hand is taking me much longer. It overlaps for a little bit with Beautiful Broken Rules, so I have to make sure they mesh perfectly.

Do you think you would write a novella, a prequel explaining how Quinn/Emerson/Cole became best friends?

I'm not sure I would do about that per se - but everyone seems to ask about a novella for Cole & Quinn so I might do something with them. Once you meet the new character's in Jace's story though - you might want their books first ;-)

Can you please tell us 5 fun facts about yourself?

- I love to travel. I'll pick seeing somewhere new over almost anything.

- I have a degree in Child Development

- I collect coffee mugs, seriously I have way too many

- Living in Europe ruined me for American food, I miss European food so much

- I cannot write and listen to music. I use music to get inspiration for certain feelings - but I just can't listen and write simultaneously

About the Author
If Kimberly isn't traveling or chasing a toddler, she's writing.  Writing for Kimberly is enjoyable and cathartic.  When she was 19, she packed up and followed her high school sweetheart from Texas to California. She had a blast living it up in San Diego. Four years later she made a crazy decision and packed up again and moved to Germany. For three years she saw as much as she possibly could. It was the most amazing time of her life. After Europe she moved back to California, and for now her and her family are debating their next adventure.

I am so excited for this post!  As everyone knows, I am a MAJOR Tears of Tess fan.  Oh that book was moving, so epic, so wonderful to read!  My 6 star review is HERE. Also there's a giveaway to win an ecopy of Tears of Tess, this is a MUST people. So enter!

I got to ask Ms. Winter's some questions and maybe we get the deets on a new release? Let's see ...

What inspired you to write a dark read?
I’ve always liked darker books and being an avid reader went through most that I could get my hands on :D Tears of Tess started off very dark, but then as I grew to know the characters I realized that Q could never be as brutal as I was originally going to make him. So it changed from dark erotica to dark romance—and maintains a balance of heart break and redemption :D

What kind of research did you do in order to prepare for Tears of Tess?
I researched France a lot because of Q. I chose Paris as it is fairy easy for wealthy people to arrange charter flights without having to claim cargo etc. I also researched BSDM which was highly entertaining :D

I love Tess and Q, how did you come up with those characters?
Tess morphed from weak and confused to a character a lot stronger than I thought she’d be. I wondered sometimes if I should tone her down, but her fight was real. Her courage and fire a part of her and I couldn’t edit that out. And Q…. well I was confused by Q for a long time but he slowly made me understand him and now I have a thing for him. LOL

You once mentioned you wrote Tears of Tess in 7 weeks, how did you do that? That's just simply incredible.
It wasn’t easy. And I don’t really want to do it again lol, but it meant a lot of 14 hour days, ignoring the hubby and not doing any housework. I was literally a slave to my laptop, but I wanted to get the book finished before I had to go back to work fulltime so had no choice. Plus Q wouldn’t leave me alone 

What is your favorite book and who is your favorite author?
My favourite series is probably by Jean M Auel—I know very strange compared to what I write. But I was younger when I read her and Jondalar was a book boyfriend for a while. I loved her storytelling and how detailed she was in all her books. My favourite author would be Laini Taylor. I love her lyrical writing and would love to be compared to her skill as a story teller—need to keep evolving to reach her standard 

I love reading random facts about authors, if you don't mind, can you please name 10 fun facts about yourself?

10 facts… umm that’s going to be hard. Lol

- I can’t sleep. I have a mutation called Super Elite (DNA thing) which means I only need 4-6 hours sleep a night compared to 8-10 hours. All my life they thought I was an insomniac (which I am too) but now I’m more comfortable if I don’t go to bed till 3am and get up at 8am.

- I hate all things milk. So no coffees, ice cream, yogurt. Yuck

- I get my caffeine from Coke Zero. Bad but I can’t get through a day without a glass or two

- I love to travel and if I’m not writing or working I’m travelling

- It’s my ultimate dream to be a best selling writer and you can bet I will keep writing and keep coming up with stories until I achieve my dream

- I’ve been trying to lose weight and joined Zumba. It’s great fun :D Love it

- I love old classic movies but like sci-fi and fantasy too.

- The scooter / kidnapping episode in Tears of Tess is actually based on a true story. Hubby and I were traveling around an island in asia and we stopped for a drink. Difference was the men who set my instincts into overdrive also set my hubby on edge and he threw me on the scooter and left immediately.

- I have an English accent and all my books will be spelled in the Queens English :D

- Turns out I don’t have a thick skin when it comes to reviews… I thought I would do but goes to show how personal my writing is to me and I love each and every person who loves my books like I do :D

What can we expect for the future?
Well, there is a surprise coming which will be announced soon. And I also have a very dark book in the works called Last Shadow. It is a romance too, but Kage (the anti-hero) isn’t Q. He doesn’t have morals lol. I’m also working on a stand alone erotica called Broken Chance. My brain is full of characters just dying to have central place on a word document :D

Tears of Tess (Tears of Tess, #1)
“My life was complete. Happy, content, everything neat and perfect.
Then it all changed.
I was sold.”

Tess Snow has everything she ever wanted: one more semester before a career in property development, a loving boyfriend, and a future dazzling bright with possibility.

For their two year anniversary, Brax surprises Tess with a romantic trip to Mexico. Sandy beaches, delicious cocktails, and soul-connecting sex set the mood for a wonderful holiday. With a full heart, and looking forward to a passion filled week, Tess is on top of the world.

But lusty paradise is shattered.

Kidnapped. Drugged. Stolen. Tess is forced into a world full of darkness and terror.

Captive and alone with no savior, no lover, no faith, no future, Tess evolves from terrified girl to fierce fighter. But no matter her strength, it can’t save her from the horror of being sold.

Can Brax find Tess before she’s broken and ruined, or will Tess’s new owner change her life forever?

Quintessentially Q (Tears of Tess, #2)
“All my life, I battled with the knowledge I was twisted… fucked up to want something so deliciously dark—wrong on so many levels. But then slave fifty-eight entered my world. Hissing, fighting, with a core of iron, she showed me an existence where two wrongs make a right.”

Tess is Q's completely. Q is Tess’s irrevocably. But now, they must learn the boundaries of their unconventional relationship, while Tess seeks vengeance on the men who sold her. Q made a blood-oath to deliver their corpses at Tess’s feet, and that’s just what he’ll do.

He may be a monster, but he’s Tess’s monster.

[Blurb]
For the last two months, Brianna has discovered something she never thought she would again. Hope. After the horror of being Ian’s slave for ten months, a fate she never imagined she’d escape, it feels as if she is living a dream. She has freedom she hadn’t expected to have again, and she wakes up every morning not fearing what the day will bring.

There is also Stephan. The man who saved her from the daily torture she had to endure at the hands of Ian and his friends. The same man who makes her heart race with just the thought of him. Life is good.

Outside forces are determined to conspire against them, however. When Brianna’s father shows up on her doorstep, it sends her world spiraling out of control. He brings with him new information about how Brianna ended up in Ian’s clutches, but will it make a difference? Will Stephan be able to find a way to make Ian pay for all he made Brianna suffer?

As Brianna and Stephan try to find out the truth, their relationship is tested. She is forced to face her past head on and deal with the ugly reality of what happened to her. Will Stephan’s love be enough to see her through her newest challenge, or will the fragile trust they’ve built come crumbling down around them as the truth makes itself known.

[My Review]
5 Stars and Spoiler Free!

Okay, I waited F.O.R.E.V.E.R for Truth… like years! Well, it felt like years.  But oh Sherri did not disappoint!

I was told that there was going to be a cliffy and when I heard that I was thinking to myself, do I really want to put myself through that? Umm…. FUCK YES!

So with that said, let’s get the disclaimer out of the way, yes there’s a cliffy.  I was okay with it though.  I know, crazy right? Look, I’ll be the first person to tell you that I loathe cliffys with a passion, but I’m starting to accept them and they do not bother me as much as long as I’m still happy, which I was.

Truth is book 3 of the Finding Anna Series.
Book 1, Slave review is HERE
Book 2, Need review is HERE

So, Truth leaves RIGHT where Need left off and BAM what an intro and it was just awesome.  As I was reading the beginning I was thinking to myself, oh boy, what is going to happen? What is Brianna going to do?  What will Stephan do?

My thoughts throughout the read

At 1% I am excited and happy

At 24% I am like, H.E.L.L.O Stephan

At 54% I am crushing on Stephan

At 64% I am just ready push Brianna aside and let Stephan have his way with ME!

At 93% I am ready to make babies with Stephan

At 100% I am doing a **Happy Dance**

Never be afraid to tell me something, Love. It will never change my feelings for you.

OHHH Okay, so it really wasn’t my feelings towards the read as it was my feelings towards Stephan.  But geez, he took her to a library after hours… I think I almost fainted when I read that part. Oh and giving her a first edition of her favorite read (mine would be Pride and Prejudice) and anyhow, when I read THAT I think I just collapsed with too much swooning.

All gushing aside, everything in Truth was amped up a notch… with steam, character development, tension and drama.  But don’t get this confused with crazy reads, I still find Truth a very nice, easy going story.

Brianna is still coming to terms with what she wants and is trying to understand Stephan’s needs as a Dominate and Stephan is still all for being there for Brianna throughout her many panic attacks.
Okay, so Brianna cries still and she has major panic attacks. I am happy that it’s kind of explained, I mean yes, she was held captive for ten months, but reading Stephan’s thought process on how he felt on the situation really helped me cope with Brianna’s issues.

This was Stephan, and instead of feeling trapped, I felt safe. I could feel him, smell him, surrounding me.

You also get to know a little bit more of Stephan’s past and it kind of shows why he is the way he is (a little, not too much) and really I think it’s a tease on Sherri’s part, but a really good one.  I hope book 4 gets more into Stephan’s history.

OH and the steam. Yep, I greatly enjoyed and it’s still mild, but I feel like it’s foreshadowing to what’s to come.  I am just ticked with anticipation!

Truth was well worth the wait and overall the Finding Anna series is just a different kind of read that needs to be read.

Gallagher’s Hope Synopsis (Book Two, Montana Gallagher Series)

She sought a new beginning.
He sought what he didn't know was missing.
Together they would discover hope in unlikely places.

Isabelle Rousseau must escape New Orleans and the memory of her family's tragic loss. With her younger brother in tow, she accepts a position as the new schoolteacher in Briarwood, Montana. Desperate to keep what's left of her family together, Isabelle joins her life with a stranger only to discover that trust and hope go hand in hand.

Gabriel Gallagher lived each day as it came believing he had everything he could possibly want . . . until a determined woman and her brother arrive with a little luggage and a lot of secrets. It will take a drastic choice to protect her and give them both hope for the future.

Excerpt One
Nothing existed of the life she had known.
Her slender arm wrapped around the little boy’s shoulder and pulled him closer to his side. She could feel his slight trembling and wished more than anything that she could take away his sadness. They were alone in the world. They had each other, and she prayed that would be enough for them both.

They stood and listened as the priest gave the final blessing, and two men lowered the caskets into the ground. The few other mourners who had been kind enough to attend the funeral asked her to leave with them, but she needed the closure. She needed her eyes to see what her heart refused to accept. ”An unfortunate affair,” everyone called the incident for it wasn’t every day that a man murdered his wife and then shot himself. Isabelle wished not to think on the possible reasons why, but she couldn’t seem to help herself. She never imagined her family to be anything but happy. Their father’s death, however, revealed the truth.

No one spoke of it with them of course, but the lawyer had made the situation quite clear.
They were penniless.

Excerpt Two
“You promised, Gabriel, you promised!”

Gabriel wasn’t a light sleeper. In fact, it often took a great deal to wake him from a pleasant slumber, and last night had been a peaceful sleep. He enjoyed waking with Isabelle in the room. What he didn’t enjoy was being yelled at before he’d even drunk his first cup of coffee. Mabel would most likely be back from her early-morning egg gathering in the barn, and he almost tasted the coffee he knew she’d have brewing. Isabelle’s words, though, did enough to bring him about.

“Blazes, Isabelle, it’s too early for yelling, and I didn’t break my promise.” Gabriel moved around the side of the bed until he located his boots and slipped them on. Anger and irritation quickly overshadowed his happy memories of holding her in his arms the night before.

“What do you call waking up next to me, Gabriel?”

“If you’ll take a good look at yourself, and me for that matter, you’ll see we’re both fully dressed. More’s the pity.”

This is no fairy tale romance.  There are no hearts and flowers. This is a rock star romance with sex drugs and heavy metal.

“I loved him, though, and poison or not, I couldn’t turn him away”

“Ethan had once said that he never wanted me to hate him. Well, if that were true, he shouldn’t have asked for it.”

Val is a goodie virgin.  She listens to her parents, doesn’t drink and has never used drugs.  Ethan is everything opposite of Val, tattoos and all.

This is their story.

Be prepared for, tons of hook-ups, partying, drinking, drug usage, angst, intense sexual tension, fighting, crying and jaw-dropping, throw-your-e-reader-against-the-wall, hair-pulling-out CRAZY MOMENTS!

…. I know I need a breather too.

The beginning starts with the end. Val is with Ethan in the future and then we are flashed back to how they got together.  Mostly this is what Bullet is about, Val and Ethan’s relationship.

Bullet.Is.No.Easy.Ride.

“ Oh, I don’t think you’re prude, Val. You just haven’t met your drug of choice, and you definitely haven’t met the right guy”

I liked Val, I thought she was an interesting Heroine and it was nice to see her grow and mature throughout the read. But damn, that girl got around!  She hooks up with guy after guy after guy. I guess that’s what happens when you like a guy who is in a heavy metal band with three other sexy dudes.  Usually this would bother me, but it was interesting to see how Val reacts to each person and what she learns from each relationship/hook-up.   I really did feel like she owned her own skin in the end.

Now, Ethan. Oh Boy. Where do I begin?! Ethan is an anti-Hero. You will want to reach into your eReader and punch him in the face…  multiple times.  I get it, he’s sexy, he knows how to play guitar, he has Daddy issues, loves to drink, do drugs and have sex with many woman.  However, there’s some redeeming moments I found in Ethan and it gives you a glimpse of hope that there is a future for them.

I can honestly say Bullet makes me as a reader go out of my comfort zone. Yes, I like hearts and flowers, yes I like swoony moments and yes I want my Hero to be "virtually" perfect, so you see how Bullet put me on edge. Let’s just say I am more pop than heavy metal, HOWE VER, I appreciate the complexity of the story.

Bullet is Raw, Gritty, and Dirty

If you like crazy love stories with shocking after shocking moments then Bullet is for you (and I know many of you readers love those kind of reads).  Also, If you are anything like me, you need your HEA and you will get that in Bullet, you may just have to a take Valium or two before you get there.

4 Star Gazing Stars

If you are looking for a steamy read with a slight paranormal theme, then Hidden is for you.
In the prologue Thomas meets Emily, Thomas is older, but Emily is a child (don’t worry guys, there’s nothing icky).  Ever since then, Thomas has taken an interest in Emily (again, no ick factor, promise). I just really liked the beginning it was different. Later, Emily meets Thomas on her first day of college.  Both do not make very good first impressions.  Thomas is swooned over Emily and does whatever he can to claim a friendship with her.  Emily doesn’t want to deal with a relationship, but she can’t help but want to be around Thomas since he seems to be where ever she is.

I’m not a big paranormal fan and I have to say the first half of the read is more Emily and Thomas’s back-story and getting to know each other.  The second half of the read has more paranormal elements as it focuses more on what Thomas is and his intentions towards Emily. So you get best of both worlds.

The one thing I really liked about Hidden is the slow relationship Emily and Thomas formed, oh I love friends falling in love with each other!  This is also a very dialogue based read, which is something I LOVE!  I hate narrative writing, so it was nice to read a lot of banter between Emily and Thomas.  There’s plenty of tension between the two and at times I think Emily over-reacts to Thomas and I just want her to chill out, but it doesn’t last that long.

I was trying to skip all the bases and run straight to home plate. Geez, I was such a slut. But that’s what he did to me. Thomas brought out my inner whore like no one else could.

OH and Thomas, SWOON. He’s so freaking sweet! At some parts I want to say, sheesh Thomas, just be an ARSE! Hidden is written in both Emily’s and Thomas’ POV which is so nice and I love that.  The supporting characters are pretty awesome as well.  We have Beth, the sluty best friend and Gabriel the perfect guy friend to listen to all of your problems.

Emily was the best thing that ever happened to me, and I’d be damned if I let her go without a fight. So if she didn’t want to see me right now, well, too fucking bad. Because I was bringing the fight to her.

There is a kind of love-triangle, I mean there’s Gabriel but he doesn’t really act on his intensions, however all of his actions keep you on his toes.

Despite the somewhat lengthy intro, the second half really nailed it for me.  There’s lots of steam, tension and a kind of surprise ending, which really made me happy. Oh and there’s a cliffy guys. I know and it’s a good one too!

3.5 beautifully tortured stars

This was the moment when I wished to die. Since that day, I had stopped breathing

Wow, what an intro right?

[Summary]
Two years ago Ree was kidnapped and tortured for many months.  She is severely traumatized and she hasn’t fully recovered nor does she have any desire to face her problems.  After Ree’s father unexpected death, her family must relocate to a more affordable place, where she meets Logan, who can’t help but try to heal damaged Ree.

You’re broken, hurt, angry, and sad. Because of that, you don’t see any worth in life

Okay, I got to do it, let’s get the disclaimer out of the way. Breathless deals with severe subject matter… so go into with caution.

[Review]
The beginning hits you with a bam and you are punched in the face. I honestly was shocked, surprised, but it was a good opening, you are hooked and you just wanted to know what happened… even though you are scared shitless.

Scars are the threads that hold me together. I am scar tissue

Since I don’t know who I really am, I often try to be someone else. I was Goth, a nerd, a cheerleader, and now I am a slut. I hope someday I will find the true Ree again.

Breathless does have flashbacks and we all I know I hate that, BUT I liked the flashbacks in Breathless because it helped paint the picture of what happened to Ree while she was kidnapped and oh boy, there’s no sugar coating those parts.

Poor Ree, I just wanted to reach through my tablet and give the girl a hug.  I mean, shit just keeps on coming!  You really don’t know what was going to happen and when you think things are going to be okay because she meets Logan and their relationship does have tension at first, but you just think… okay, they are going to be okay. Ree is going to be okay, Logan is there, then you are like  BAM, punched in the face again!

At times I felt like Ree did over-react to certain situations and you just wanted her to take a chill pill, but I get it, she was tortured, so give the girl a break right?  With all that is said and done, if you want a crazy, pull-your-hair-out-read, then this one is for you.

I hear your cry for help, hoodie girl. I want to make you whole again. You have something in you that draws me to you. But now, I realize it’s you. It’s the way you are

I shiver. Strange sensations stir inside me. Hate. Annoyance. Fear. And… attraction.
Men break hearts. A real man puts the pieces together and would hold your heart like a diamond in his hand.

5 COOZY-SNUGGLE-WINTERY STARS!!!!

I’ve seen the reviews and all of you people who didn’t absolutely love Frigid are CRAZY!

HOW COULD YOU NOT LOVE FRIGID? THE ONLY THING THAT COULD MAKE THIS READ BETTER… I WISH I READ THIS DURING CHRISTMAS.

Honestly, this was a fantastic, easy, light, no-fuss, no-muss, kind of read. It was PERFECT!

Sydney and Kyler are childhood best friends.  Every year they go skiing together, but this year, they get snow trapped! **GASP** and of course their friends couldn’t make it.  So for a few days Sydney and Kyler are stuck together.

Sydney was perfect- the actual embodiment of the perfect woman. She was practically pristine and fresh. She was untouchable. She was everything to me.

I understand there was no crazy drama, no pull-your-hair-out tension, but sometimes and I know I do, you need that just happy-make-me-smile read!

I loved every page.

I thought the whole Sydney and Kyler banter and relationship was just too freaking adorable.  Of course they were frustrating at times and you kind of wished they would just talk about their feelings, but that’s what makes this read so GOOD! Oh and the steam… IT.DID.NOT.DISAPPOINT!!!

I was Kyler’s best friend. And because of that, he would never love me the way I loved him
Any female with ovaries would be affected. Kyler oozed sex appeal, a dangerous mix of looks and intelligence wrapped in an air of unpredictability.

I love J.Lynn / Jennifer L. Armentrout and I said it once and I’ll say it again, SHE IS FUCKING AWESOME PEOPLE!

You are beautiful, Sydney. You know that? You’re so beautiful, and you don’t even know

This is his last break before finishing law school and starting at a firm this upcoming summer. He has no desire for a fling or a girlfriend. All he wants is to buckle down and finish this year off right. That is until he gets a glimpse of his vacationing neighbor, and for the life of him, he can’t look away.

Finding romance on vacation is one thing, but can their relationship withstand the demand of real life and once their past catches up with them will believing in each other’s truth save their future.

[Excerpt]
Craig leans forward and kisses my forehead. “Because you were tired and needed your sleep. We were up late.” He reaches over and runs his hand up and down my stomach making me catch my breath in surprise. “So, I know you’re friends are here and everything, but I want to take you out to dinner tonight.” He tilts his head over and gives me a quick kiss on the lips. “It will be our first date. ” His grin gives me chills down my spine while his touch is blazing my skin.

“Oh, okay,” I whisper, trying to mask my excitement. I’m feeling really joyous at the idea of going on a date with Craig. I want to jump up and down and do a little dance on the bed, but decide to play it cool.

“Good.” He leans in and kisses down the side of me face. “I can’t wait for tonight. Pick you up at 1900, that’s 7:00 PM for you.” He plants a big, wet, curl your toes kiss on my lips while his hand roams over one of my breasts making me lift my hips towards him. All of the sudden he breaks from the kiss with a big smile on his face. “Tonight, baby.” He brushes his thumb over my nipple a couple of time before grabbing Larry and hops out of bed leaving me hot and bothered.

I gasp. “Tease!”

Doesn't this cover look yummy?! I just want to lick Cash's abs and then-some.  I'm such a cover whore, but sheesh, **FAINT**

[Blurb]
This Adult-New Adult mash-up is an extremely steamy contemporary romance that tells the story of Cash, a 24-year-old grocery clerk and Lilla, a 30-something unhappily married woman who fall for one another.

Warren Cash Valentine is an artist moonlighting as a cashier in his family's failing grocery store.

On the surface he appears to be your typical smart ass, cocky 24 year-old, but underneath lies a man who is highly gifted and passionate about embracing life to the fullest.

Lilla King is a woman stuck in the winter of her life.

At 39 years-old, her marriage and career are failing which leaves her desperate to find a spark that will jump-start her woeful heart and get her back on course to finding her passion for life.

One man's wife is another man's lover.

Can you keep a secret?

[Excerpt]

Cash Valentine POV

I want her to look at the scene unfolding around her and carry me home. The light to burn her eyes and paint my face over her husband’s blank stare. Flipped on her belly, tugging her ass towards me. Underwear on a date with my borrowed shirt lying in the corner. Smacking my palm to the apple, not letting go.

My thumb smearing across her skin to spread her open and taste in between her loneliest place. Papers rustle as they are fisted in her hands, trying to hold on as she lets go of all the bullshit. Another night I’ll go slower. Another night I’ll kiss her fucking toes and keep my mouth on this pussy like a man should.
Tonight I’m too lit up. Breaking at my own seams.

“Say no,” I murmur in her ear, sliding my hands to pull hers from the paper. Into mine. She locks her fingers around mine and that’s all I need.

6 Shining and Spoiler Free Stars!!!!

Shine Not Burn will have you shinning from head to toe with pure joy, excitement, smiles and belly full of laughter.  You do not need to think about your next read because Shine Not Burn NEEDS to be it … like NOW!

All I wanted was one night of reckless abandon so I could get all this craziness out of my system and go home with a clean slate, ready to kick ass, take names, and get on with my life.

[Intro]
Andrea (Andie) has her life planned out for her.  She calls it “Andie’s Life Plan”, which involves making junior partner, getting married and having 2.5 kids.  BUT for just one night, she goes against better judgment and takes a trip to Las Vegas with her girlfriends, where she meets Mack.  Mack is sexy, swoon-worthly-panty-dropping -country cowboy who happens to be very intrigued with city slick Andie when they meet.

Oh GOD WHERE DO I BEGIN?!

[Andie + Mack]
I LOVED Andie.  I thought she was Fantastic. Witty. Funny. Adorable. and Lovable.  I want to be best friends with Andie, heck I want to be Andie!  Andie is your typical goal-oriented city lawyer.  She wants to be successful and have the typical life she has been planning since she was little, despite her friend’s wishes and pleas to get her to become looser.

Mack…OH.MY.  Let me just say this, yes I am from Texas, yes husband is southern and actually grew up on a farm, BUT I never really had a cowboy thing.  But sheesh, after reading Shine Not Burn, I’m making husband but on his Levis and cowboy boots.  I LOVED Mack.  He will be your next book boyfriend. He is so freaking sweet, yet strong, aggressive, dominate and very smart. … oh and he’s lickable too.

Sexy. Handsome. Smart. Sexy. Magnetizing. Compelling. Muscles. Good family. Confident. Polite. Sexy

[Overall]
When Andie goes to Las Vegas and meets Mack, Oh god, if there was ever a meet-cute, they had it.  She doesn’t wear heels, but her friends make her wear five inch stilettos and the poor girl trips, spills her drink on Mack. Sure, that’s cute right? So Andie is mortified and starts to wipe Mack’s pants, but he starts to get excited… you know that kind. Oh come on, isn’t that funny?! I found it freaking hilarious.

I could rip his clothes off and be wild and crazy slut.  I was so ready to be a prostitute right now. Twelve hundred bucks was definitely going to buy him a blow job.

Andie and Mack both have a grand-o time in Vegas and the next day, they both part ways.  Its two years later and Andie is planning her wedding with now fiancé Bradley but she gets a call from the court house, saying that she is already married…. to Mack. **GASP**

Andie goes to the country and tries to convince Mack to sign the divorce papers, but not being in her own element and Mack’s family can be a little bit distracting, makes it difficult for Andie to achieve her goal.  The whole read is just hilarious, I can’t express to you how funny it is.  The jokes that come out of Andie’s mouth are top notch, you just want to write them down and re-quote them (which I did).

I was like a dog getting distracted by a small animal running by. Squirrel! Fine ass!
I had zero fear of Mack being the wrong kind of guy to invite up to my room. He totally didn’t come off as rapist material. Me, on the other hand, I wasn’t so sure about.

I one-hundred percent LOVED LOVED LOVED every single side character.   From man-bear-pig/wookie, to lovable Mack’s Mom and don’t even get me started on Andie’s best friend Candice!  If I can’t be Andie, I would gladly be Candice.

I lost my brain about an hour and three margaritas ago.
You’re going with your heart and you vagina instead of your head for a change!

Oh and the title reference!  If you know me, I ALWAYS look for the title reference and when you get to it in Shine Not Burn, you are like Shit, that Elle Casey is a fucking genius!

It feels like shinning to me, not burning

And do not be fooled by all the humor, Shine Not Burn is steamy!  I know, how can a read have everything? Well, it simply just does.

Shine Not Burn has a perfect Herione and Hero, wonderful side-characters, witty story line and one-of- kind dialogue with just the right amount of steam.  If you are looking for that light-hearted, fun-filled, laughable read, then Shine Not Burn is it. You will (as I have) “laugh out loud” many many many many times.

He swung so easily between strong, sexy cowboy and soft-hearted lover boy, he was making me dizzy with it.  Maybe even a little love-drunk

Dumbass jerk butthead cowboy redneck sexy person. God, why does he have to be so sexy

[Interview with Elle]
1.) Why did you become a writer? and Who/What inspires you to write?
I've been told since I was a young girl I should write books, first by my Grandmother who I exchanged letters with over many years and then by others who received letters or emails from me.  It made me feel great when people told me they loved my stories and how the way I described situations made them laugh.

But I knew I could never handle that process of sending in manuscripts to agents and getting ignored or told flat-out that I suck and to find another job.  I took the short cut and just found the other job! (Many jobs, actually.) But then the Kindle came along and Amazon letting people publish right to readers. I read a news article first about Amanda Hocking and then Darci Chan - that was back in October or November of 2011.  After I read their stories, I thought I'd just give it a shot.

I had a ton of stories just waiting to be told floating around in my head and I'd always wanted to see if I could do it.  I started with the one that had the loudest characters and just continued on.  Many of my books started out as either stand-alone novels or short series, but I had so many readers asking for more, I just gave them more.  Now I have lots of series and lots of YA books.  :)

To answer your question about who or what inspires me to write… now that I've learned I can write engaging stories people like to read, it's my readers.  I read reviews that make my heart nearly explode with happiness.  It's for them I write.  I'm very highly addicted to reader love.

2.) You have written YA reads, anywhere from urban fantasy, sci-fi, dystopian and action-adventure, what inspired you to write a New Adult read?  Especially, a country cowboy themed one?
First, I'm a big fan of the romance genre, and right now the best place to be for New Adult is romance.  I love to read the stuff!  I've been reading romances since I was 8 or 9.  Seriously.  My mom didn't care what I was reading, so long as I was reading!  She and my Grandma pretty much mainlined Harlequin romances, so those are the books that were lying around our house.  I've read hundreds of romances in all the sub-genres.

I decided to take my love for the genre and add it to my desire to branch out and find new readers. Romance is the biggest group of readers, they're voracious, and they talk to each other online. I knew it would be so much easier to build my reader base if there was a bigger, very connected group of people to write for.  And last, I just wanted to try and write something different.

Why a cowboy?  I have no freaking idea.  Andie jumped into my head one day and she dragged Mack in with her.  All the other characters introduced themselves as the story unfolded.  I'm a panster, meaning I write without an outline.  I meet my characters as they appear on the page.

3.) Are you really a comedian on the side? Shine Not Burn kept me laughing from start to finish.  How did you come up with so many witty lines?
I write comedy sketches in my head all the time.  Maybe some day I'll try that career too.  :)  I really have no idea how I do it.  I let my characters tell the story, and because they feel like real people to me with their own personalities and pasts, their humor comes through clearly.  Plus I like to hang out with funny, smart people, so maybe it rubs off on my characters. :)

4.) I LOVED Andie and Mack, how did you come up with the characters?  Andie is so funny and Mack is so alpha-male tough.
I wish I knew.  They conjure themselves out of the ether while I sleep, maybe.  I'll tell you that in my last life, I was a lawyer in West Palm Beach.  So that made Andie's life very easy to envision.  Ruby is patterned after Loretta Devine of Eli Stone.  She was the very best actress as a legal secretary I've ever seen.  I love that woman.  She's brilliant.  Mack?  Well, I was married to a cowboy from Baker City, Oregon, but he was nothing like Mack (hence the divorce … lol).  But my cowboy made beautiful children with me, so I can't really complain much. Mack is my ideal cowboy, I guess.  I've always been a sucker for the strong, silent type (hence my second, very happy marriage … lol)

5.) Will you extend Shine Not Burn into a series?  Maybe write book 2 about Ian or Candice?
I've been asked for a book 2 about Ian, and I'm also curious about Hannah Banana and Candice and even Bradley, so we'll see.  If I get enough reader requests, I'll do it. I always like to make my readers happy.

6.) What is your favorite author and read?
That's tough.  I have so many I love.  I read romances every once in a while for an escape into love.  I read a lot of urban fantasy like the Sookie Stackhouse series, Twilight (Team Edward), and the Mercy Thompson series by Patricia Briggs.  Then there are all these amazing indie authors like Hugh Howey, Dannika Dark, HM Ward, Mimi Strong, Cassia Leo, Catou Martine, CM Stunich, Kelly Harper, Kelly Walker … I could go on and on!  I mostly read indie books now.  I like to support the careers of people like me.  If we support indie authors as readers, we're going to be rewarded with more great books at lower prices, so it's a no brainer for me.

7.) I don't want to give anything away, but there is a part in the read where there is a lost night, would you write a novella or companion piece to retell those events?
I would strongly consider it.  I think it's a great idea.  Thank you for coming up with it!  :)

Laundry. As a kid and teenager, I’d always ended up doing everyone’s laundry.

4. What is your favorite time of the day?
I love mornings; I am more alert and energetic than any other time of the day or night.

I dislike hearing constant blaring horns and loud arguments outside of my window.

8. Who is your favorite author or favorite book?
There are so many fantastic authors and books that I love. I repeat: so many fantastic authors and books that I love. With that stated, I LOVE J.R Ward and can’t wait to get to Lover At Last. I need a weekend away from everything so that I can devote hours to the latest Blackdagger Brotherhood novel as is required. For anyone who doesn’t like paranormal or urban fantasy like I hadn’t years ago, I really believe that her character-driven stories and swoon-worthy alpha males can make anyone at least like vamps.

9. What inspired you to write Drawn To You?
Writing Beth and Chase’s story enabled me to truly escape into their worlds

Deer in headlights – she was paralyzed as her mind went a zillion miles in a split second

[BLURB]
What do the Greek gods do when they're bored? Because they're always bored, so humans are the perfect players in their games.

Aphrodite owns love; she hasn't lost a competition on her turf in over three millennia. Apollo is on a mission to win. He's counting on it to finally get the one woman he's never been able to have. The two gods will choose their human players, and if Aphrodite can't get them together before the clock runs out, Apollo will get his way. And Aphrodite couldn't have that.

Lex and Dean are perfect for each other, they just don't know it yet. Dean is a perpetual bachelor, and a brooding, beautiful rock star. Lex is always with a man, but she'll never fully give herself up. Aphrodite has her work cut out for her, but if she can't make it work, no one can.

The gods have their own drama. Apollo killed Aprhodite's mortal love - they've got beef that's been dragging on for thousands of years. Ares, the douchebag, is forever trying to pick a fight, and trying to get Aphrodite into bed. And Persephone, Aphrodite's best friend, is the one person who Aphrodite shares everything with.

Follow the gods as they fight, laugh, cry, lose love, gain power, and make a mess with humans.

Dear in Headlights is like reading two books in one.  It’s Greek Mythology with a contemporary twist!

Aphrodite is the love goddess and she never loses.  If two people are meant to be together, Aphrodite will see to it.  Aphrodite and Apollo play the game of love but with humans. Two humans are picked and if Aphrodite can get them to fall in love within a month, then Aphrodite wins, but if she can’t Apollo wins.

The humans are Lex and Dean. Dean is a rock star and man-whore, who is notorious for sleeping with band member’s girlfriends.  Lex is Travis’ girlfriend and Travis is the newest member of Dean’s band.   Lex and Dean are drawn together, but Lex doesn’t want to hurt Travis and Dean doesn’t want to break up his band.
Dear in Headlights is split between two parallel story lines, The Gods and the Humans.

I decided to give this read a try because I found the blurb very interesting.  I’ll be honest, I don’t know much about Greek Gods, so it’s not my forte and I found that I enjoy Lex and Dean’s story more, but I did find both stories fascinating and very different.  There are some flash backs during the God’s story line, but enough to add a little depth to the story.

There are times where it was a little difficult to follow, there are plenty of side characters and if you aren’t paying attention it can throw you off.  (To me anyhow) I really liked Lex and Dean’s story and maybe because it was easier to follow.  I am usually not a fan of love triangles, BUT Lex never did anything to make me angry at her.  There was a fine line between flirtation and downright cheating.

There’s plenty of tension between both God and human stories.  There are a few steamy scenes which would make this read mature read, but it wasn’t too much and didn’t take away from the story.  I think Deer in Headlights warrants a specific audience and definitely for those Greek lovers.

[Excerpt]
Lex sat in the back of a dingy dive, sipping her drink out of tiny cocktail straws. There was no way she was putting her mouth on the glasses in this place. She glanced up through the very small crowd to spot Kara near the stage, her heart shaped face upturned to a mealy, dirty singer as he screamed into the microphone. He clearly believed he was Sid Vicious reincarnated. This guy had about as much talent as a safety pin in Sid’s cheek.

When the set ended, Kara made her way to the table and set her beer down with a thunk. “I can’t keep this up. Clearly I was very, very drunk when I hooked up with Spike.”

“I still can’t get over that you hooked up with a guy named Spike.”

“Ha ha. Funny. Let’s get out of here, yeah? There’s still time, maybe we can actually find a bar with a band that doesn’t suck.” Kara grabbed her purse and a pale, skinny, sweaty arm slipped around her shoulder. Kara’s lip curled, totally disgusted.

“Hey, chicks. How’d you like the set?” Spike sneered. He looked like a short, starving Billy Idol.
“Oh, it was great.” Lex tried to keep her face together. “You guys are…special.”

Kara shrugged out from under his arm. “Uh, Spike, I’m not feeling so good so we’re going to bail—”
“What? You can’t go yet. We’re on the list at a couple of clubs, and you’re coming.”

Kara shot Lex a 9-1-1 look, but Lex wasn’t paying attention. She was too busy watching the rest of the band walk up. Specifically, the tall blond that led the pack. Lex couldn’t take her eyes off of him. She wondered how the hell she had missed that?

He leaned on the table next to Lex with a charming smile on his face. Kara cleared her throat.
“Uh, right. I mean, I don’t know Kara. Are you feeling okay?” Lex looked hopefully to Kara and her eyes flicked to the blond.

Kara sighed. “You know what, I guess I can tough it out. Come on, lover.” She linked an arm into Spike’s, and as they walked toward the exit, Kara shot Lex a look over her shoulder. Lex slid off the seat and slung on her bag. She was going to owe Kara, big time. The blond walked next to her as they made their way out.
“So, how’d you like the show?” He sounded like he was baiting her.

“Um, it was…interesting?”

He laughed, and she relaxed. He knew they were terrible.

“Yeah, well, it pays the bills. Most of the time, at least” He gave her a wave. “I’m Travis.”
“Lex,” she said as they stepped outside.

“Well, Lex, it’s nice to meet you.” He ran his hand through his hair. “So, how about I buy you a drink?”

She smiled up at him. “I think I’d like that.”

I enjoy being a pin-up model…

C. Michelle’s vibrant debut novel, Pinned Up is full of snappy dialogue, edgy humor, and a lot of heart. This fun look into the world of a modern-day pin-up model is one wild ride!

Twenty-five-year-old Nina Moretti lives a double life of sorts. She’s a victim advocate during the day and as a side gig, lives out her 1940s fetish as a pin-up model in San Francisco, California. While she may not “do” serious relationships, she has fulfillment in her work and hanging out with her best friend, Kade—the greatest sidekick any woman could possibly want. All is well in Nina’s hectic, but satisfying life…

That is, until she meets Josh, a stunningly handsome man who has a notorious reputation as a ladies’ man. For his part, Josh is reluctant to commit to any woman, largely due to his loving, yet overbearing mother. Nina, however, sparks his interest in a way that no other woman has before. As they navigate the pitfalls of romantic entanglement, both come to realize their pasts are intertwined in ways they could never imagine. Perhaps, they have more in common than just their fear of relationships. What are two people afraid of commitment supposed to do?

Who doesn't like vintage pin-up girls and cars?

Nina is 25 years old and is a part time pin-up model. She doesn’t do relationships and she’s perfectly fine with that. Nina has her circle of friends and a very pushy mom, but life is good. Josh is a man-whore and isn’t shy about that. Nina and Josh go out on “non-dates” and despite Nina’s reluctance, she soon starts to have feelings for Josh.

I was interested in Pinned Up because I found Nina interesting, I hadn’t read a Heroine as a pin-up model and I do love fashion, so it just seemed like this would work. We are first introduced to Nina and we get to know her a little bit. She has a best friend named Kade and their relationship is very close. I liked how Kade and Nina became best friends and even though the story was shocking and came out of nowhere I appreciated it.

Josh is the typical man-whore we romance readers love. The guy who could have any girl and does, but the moment he meets his match, it’s like blinders are on and that’s all he sees. I liked Josh. I thought he was caring, charismatic and sweet. I liked Nina in the beginning. I liked her circle of friends and even her pushy mother was entertaining. I also liked how upfront she was with Josh in the beginning and was very clear on how she didn’t do relationships and the “non-dates” they went on were cute. However, towards the climatic-ending, she bugged the crap out of me and I really wanted to slap her. I think her stubbornness was pushing me a bit. If you like angsty tension, you will get it.

There’s a lot that goes on in Pinned-up. I would describe the first half as Nina and Josh getting to know each other and the second half Nina and Josh uncovering past issues and working past them. I thought Josh and Nina got on fairly quickly, also known as insta-love. It’s safe to say, you didn’t have to wait too long for the steam.

I think Pinned-up will cater to a lot of people. There’s a combination of tension, vintage fashion, past issues and secrets uncovered.

My favorite quote… only because I tell my book friends this

I’m a book whore. If you see me with an open book, I suggest you don’t bother me, especially if you can tell that’s an intense part of the story. Lord forbid you breathe loud while I’m reading… I will cut you

“Josh, we need to talk. You’re not the only man who makes my panties wet. Several…scratch that…more like countless men make my panties wet.” I confess.

Josh gives me an incredulous look and waits for me to continue. “I’m involved with numerous men, sometimes even a girl or two catch my attention.” I take a long pause. “Yes, they’re all in books and are fictional characters, but our relationships are real. I’m a book whore. If you see me with an open book, I suggest you don’t bother me, especially if you can tell that it’s an intense part of the story. Lord forbid you breathe loud while I’m reading…I will cut you.” My expression is humorless. There are some things in this world that you can’t take lightly, my relationship with characters is one of those things.

Remembering Joy

Alexis doesn’t believe in fairytales.  She knows first hand that life can turn on a dime – that one stupid mistake can shatter dreams and irrevocably shape the future.  Even though her memory of that day is hazy, she has spent the last ten years trying to put it behind her and focus on the future.

Armed with the knowledge that her career will be her only legacy, Alexis works night and day to prove that she is more than just her last name.  It’s not only that she doesn’t have time for love – she doesn’t have the heart for it.  After all, there’s no point in starting something that you can’t finish.

However, when she meets Adam, she’s drawn to him in a way even she can’t deny.  He is dark and brooding and strangely charming.  He’s the perfect distraction from the mundane life she’s created for herself.  And, as if fate is pushing them together, he seems to be around every corner.  It’s enough to almost make her entirely forget about her past and take a chance.

Unfortunately, Adam’s memory isn’t hazy . . . not in the least.  And, what she doesn’t remember, he can’t forget.

*Mature New Adult/Adult novel – contains adult situations and sexuality and is suited for ages 18 and up*

[Excerpt 1: Meet Adam]
Dinner had gone just as I had planned. Well, except for one thing. I still didn’t understand how I could be so attracted to her; I had hated her for so long. Yet, I kept flipping back to that kiss on the sidewalk and how she had pressed her body into mine. I’d felt the charge between us, and I know that she felt it, too. When it became clear that she wasn’t going to invite me up, I had wanted nothing more than to sling her over my shoulder and haul her ass up there caveman-style. I had resisted because I could wait and because when I went there, it would be at the expense of a guilty conscience.

I thought that I knew all of her secrets but her prohibition against dating was something I hadn’t expected. It was going to make getting her to fall for me a little harder ... but not impossible.

She would fall for me ... and the harder the better because I was going to break her heart.

Even if I smashed into a million pieces, it would only be a fraction of the heartache that she’d caused me every single day for the past 10 years.

[Excerpt 2:  Meet Alexis]
As we got closer to my building, a swarm of butterflies descended upon my stomach. By the time we stepped into the elevator, the butterflies were flitting around at warp speed, and as I unlocked my front door, my anxiety hit a fever pitch.

It wasn’t that I was nervous to be around Adam. Despite the fact that I frequently suffered from asthma attacks and heart murmurs when he was near, we were way past nervousness. Having a guy lick syrup off your fingers while desecrating his kitchen table will illicit a sense of familiarity, even if it is a false one.

No, my anxiety was solely rooted in the fact that during my almost nine years in New York City, I had never invited a guy into my apartment. Not one. Not even Ethan had been invited into my inner sanctum.

My apartment was my safe haven. It was the only place where I didn’t have to pretend that I was a whole person. In this space, I wasn’t the pretty girl with the perfect job made possible by an ivy-league education and a privileged upbringing by perfectly doting parents. Instead, I was free to be the broken, tired, lonely girl that I really was. In this place, it was okay that I wasn’t allowed to want for more because what I already had took everything in me. Inviting Adam into my apartment felt like inviting him into so much more.

I flipped on the light as he shut the door behind us. The click of the door was probably just barely audible but caused me to wince. This hadn’t been a good idea. I wasn’t sure that I could put on the show here that came so easily everywhere else.

4.5 fully submerged Stars!

Left Drowning not only has a beautiful, title and cover, but an emotionally gripping story of intense love.

Left Drowning is nothing like Jessica Park’s last book I’ve read Flat-out Love and it just amazes me! Sure, the title Left Drowning is a little depressing, but I seriously thought I was going into something light and fluffy and boy was I in for a shock! BUT A GOOD SHOCK Oh Left Drowning is very steamy … yeah I know you wanted to know that too.

[Disclaimer]

I got to put the disclaimer because I really need to stress that Left Drowning isn’t anything like Flat-Out Love. Left Drowning is ten times more emotional and basically you are in for a roller-coaster ride of highs and lows. If you like this kind of read (which I do!) then proceed.

[Summary]

Blythe is entering her senior year in college and first off, we notice something is seriously making Blythe unhappy and upset, we just don’t know why. One day she meets Chris at a secluded river and instantly forms a connection with him. Both Blythe and Chris have past issues and as they try to overcome disturbing histories, it either strengthens their relationship or pushes them apart.

[Blythe]

The beginning is a bit descriptive and usually this irritates me because I do not like descriptive writing, I know, to-each-their-own, BUT this time, it worked for me. Why? Well, it’s all about character build-up. I really got to know Blythe in the first few chapters. I got into the raw and gritty side of her and it was very refreshing. I also liked her sense of humor.

No one else could ever kiss me like this, of that I am positive. I could breathe him in forever. I could fall in love forever.

[Chris]

Oh lord, what can I say about Chris? I am up and down with him. Sometimes I want to punch him in the face and sometimes I want to rip his clothes off and lick his abs. Chris is what I call a flawed Hero. He isn’t perfect, but somehow he balances Blythe.

[Overall]

I want to point out a few things that are worth mentioning.

♥ I was grabbed right from the beginning!

♥ Chris and Blythe’s emotional past issues were not only shocking, but very moving.

Left Drowning was one ball of emotional tension!

♥ Favorite scene… the shower scene!

I have to talk about the shower scene and no, I am not giving anything away people. It’s not a sex scene or anything like that. It’s just a moving and pivotal point in the read and it bumped up my rating. There are a few times when I read a powerful scene, I actually stop and think about it, this was one of them. WOW, is all I can say to that.

I LOVED the title reference. If you have read my past reviews, then you know that is the NUMBER ONE thing I look for in a read. I try to figure out why the author picked the title (if it’s not an obvious one) and Jessica Park … damn girl, you know how to write. When I got to the title reference I was like, OH.MY.GOD… LOVE!

Okay okay, so why didn’t I give this a 5 star rating? I usually don’t like to point out the negatives when I give a 4+ star review and I don’t really think this is a negative, I think it’s a personal preference, BUT I don’t want people to read my review and have certain expectations and then hate me, so I decided with my 4.5 star rating because I felt like Chris was just a bit too flawed for me. I know, I’m a dreamer and as much as I love flawed characters, I felt like Chris was too much one way.

However, I can’t stress enough the intensity of Left Drowning I know there are many readers that love damaged characters, tension filled romances and shocking situations, so if you are one of them, then I definitely recommend Left Drowning. If not for that, then because Jessica Park is one bad-a$$ writer and I wish her and I are best-friends.

[BLURB]

Photographs.

Images. Snapshots in time.

This is how I experience my life. I’ve hidden behind my camera and viewed the world through the lens. I watch other people live their lives. I’ve given up on my dreams, and sheltered my heart from love; because both have given me nothing but pain. Even thinking about opening myself up, sends my fears into overdrive. It’s better to be safe, than to take a risk and have your life shattered into pieces alongside your heart. This is what I believed.

Dangerous.

Risks. Fear Nothing.

I live for the rush of adrenaline I get when I work my stunts. Nothing else matters but the feel of my heart pounding when I challenge the line between life and death. Women are nothing more than a distraction; they use me for my connections, as I use them to escape the pain of my past before moving on to my next adrenaline fix. My life is consumed with excitement, danger and risks—it’s all I needed.

 Denials.

Fear. The complete wrong time.

Jasmin and Jet will face off over photos, stunts and the truth hidden in their hearts.  The last person Jasmin wants to be with is a man who takes life for granted.  Jet wants to give his heart to no one; especially one who might not understand the secrets that haunt him. Despite their protests, Jasmin’s and Jet’s lives tangle; the threads of love and fear bind them. Between their passions and their pasts, they fight to hang onto each other . . . but will the stakes be too high when faced with the ultimate sacrifice?

** 18+ for adult situations, sexual situations and language.

[Excerpt]
The wind blew straight off the ocean, bringing me a wash of salty air, hot sand and coconut sunscreen. But I couldn’t see Jasmin anywhere. Stepping off the path, I headed straight for the water, then stood with my head leaned back and considered shouting for her. A pale flash of yellow caught my eye at the far end of the beach.

There she was, squatting low, camera up as she took pictures of the local kids playing in the surf. They dodged and darted in front of her and she followed them, the camera a part of her.
Walking slowly, the sand pulling at my feet, I wove between the few blankets and towels on the beach until I stood a few feet behind her. She was laughing, her voice pairing with the kids squeals and swiftly chattered Spanish. Like music, it mesmerized me, and I stood there for a long time, just watching her, feeling like I was privy to something special.

To someone special.
I closed my eyes. Good God, I must have picked up something for me to be waxing poetic about a girl I barely knew, had only just met.

“Jet?”
My eyes flew open and I smiled without thinking. “Waiting on you, Spitfire. You done playing?”
A soft smile curved one side of her full lips and my mind wandered once more into dangerous territory.
There was only one thing to do. With a rush, I scooped her up onto my shoulder and gave her a spin, much to the delighted kids who were now screaming encouragement.
“What are you doing, are you crazy?” She said, grasping my shoulders.
“That’s what the doctor says.”

She punched my arm, not hard, but I fell to the ground, pulling her on top of me, then I held up my hands. “Oh, God, I think you bruised me.” I looked up at her with one eye. “Kiss it better?”
Her response was to pull the camera out and start taking pictures, effectively blocking my attempt at charming her. Which was for the best anyway. She was right to push me away; something about her was too much, too intense. Not right for me. Though the flicker of desire in those green depths teased at me, and the feeling of her body quivering against mine in that split second before she scrambled away was almost enough to change my mind.

She was most definitely too good for me, without a doubt. I could acknowledge that, but with every moment I spent with her I became more and more convinced she wasn’t as immune to my charms as I’d thought. But that’s all it was, flirting, my usual, nothing more. This was fun, light.
Harmless.

I smiled, giving her a wink and the color rose up on her cheeks. Nope, there was no turning back, no way I’d quit flirting with her now, if nothing more than to see her squirm.
I wasn’t going to ease up.
Not for one second.

Havana loves movies, TV, reading, sporty things and baking cakes.

Alex spun around to see that she was standing in the doorway to the bedroom, slowly advancing in. He watched as she reached to her side and slowly pulled down the concealed zip in her white dress. He swallowed hard.

“What are you doing?”

“Isn’t it obvious?” she replied as she let the dress fall to her feet and she stepped away from it, now clad only in a sheer flesh-tone thong. She reached up to unclasp her hair and Alex’s eyes were drawn to the way this movement raised her breasts. God, he had forgotten just how beautiful she was.

He watched as she let her blonde curls fall around her shoulders and she combed her fingers through her hair. Her eyes, Alex could see, were riveted to his cock and the erection that was growing fast.

“How do you want me?” Tamara asked her voice husky and something in Alex snapped."

3 Steamy Stars

[My Summary + Review]

Collette Stroud is a native actress and successful Hollywood director.   Her next project is a low-budget film and she hires two young actors, Liliana Addison and Devon Maddox for the leading female and male role.  The executives want Liliana and Devon to create a fake relationship to drive up the hype of the new movie.  However, as Collette and Devon start to form a relationship it’s becoming difficult to maintain with Collette’s past issue, Devon’s lack of experience in Hollywood, added gossip from tabloids and the fake relationship between Liliana and Devon.

One word to describe Hollywood Lies is DRAMA.  You will be rooting for Collette and Devon from start to finish.

Falling asleep with her is incredibly easy. I am so lucky

The first 30% of the read is getting to know Devon and Collette (Cole).  Cole has past issues, it’s apparent first off she is a really anxious person due to an attack she has endured, but we really don’t know the specifics yet. This I like because it kind of makes Cole a little real and venerable, also it explains why she is so recluse and cautious.  Devon is a fresh-face young actor and this role is his leading break that could launch his career. Devon is what you will call a typical young beautiful male… he loves sex.

There’s a lot of steam in this book.  Some reviewers have mentioned the read along the lines of “porn”. I just think it depends on what you are comfortable with.  Yes, at times, I felt like the steam was a bit much, but it didn’t really hinder the story.  I think it’s just something to be mindful of when you read a really steamy book.

Cole is 33 years old and Devon is 23.  I’ll be honest… I am not a fan of the ten year age gap, especially if the Heroine is the older one, HOWEVER, I get it.  Cole is an established actress so she kind of knows the ins-and-outs of Hollywood and Devon is new to the scene.  So we already know that the couple is starting off on uneven footing (this creates tension, which is good!).

The read is told in both Cole’s and Devon’s POV’s.  So you get a good picture of how they feel at the time. Cole and Devon don’t really interact until the 30% mark, but I really like how they first form a friendship until things get kinkier.  I really liked that they both bonded over playing the guitar, singing and reading books.  I’m a HUGE book worm, so I appreciate that little part.

The idea that this beautiful and vulnerable insomniac, who trusts very few people, has fallen asleep with me is more exciting than a passing fantasy of having sex with her

Oh and the whole “beer or peanuts”, yeah that was cute too.

The relationship becomes shaky when Cole lets her guarded heart get the best of her.  Devon wants an open relationship, but Cole can’t move past all the publicity that comes with that. So, Liliana’s young careful attitude, Devon’s co-star, starts to look a little bit more interesting to Devon.

This read is a ball of emotions.  I think Cole is an interesting character and at times I kind of just wanted her to get over her issues and just let the relationship be, but I understood her point when I found out what happened.  Devon is kind of all over the place, but his character is very different from the typical Heroes’ I read.  Devon does like sex and yes there are some scenes where he hooks up with other girls and I cringed a little at those parts because I really was rooting for Cole, but it also reflects Devon’s maturity level and it also sets up his character.   Overall, both of them have flaws and it makes them both a little more “real”.

[Casting]

If you love SUPER steamy reads with love tri-angles, then Hollywood Lies is for you.  There’s plenty of sex, drama, tension and roller-coaster of emotions.

Devon is in my bed, eyes open, waiting on me to return.  There is something beautiful and scary in that.

[Summary]

In a world where make believe is a multibillion dollar industry, it’s hard to know where the fantasy ends and real life begins. When Collette Stroud, an influential Hollywood actor and director, takes a chance on two young actors for her romantic teen movie, three lives converge in a complicated web of publicity, passion, lust, and lies.

The web is cast when Stroud, a woman with a few skeletons in her closet, hires two young artists in her low-budget film. She handpicks Liliana Addison and Devon Maddox to be Hollywood’s next big stars. Former child star Liliana has had limited success with her previous roles but hopes to take the world by storm under Collette’s tutelage. While Devon is an out of work actor, he never stops dreaming about making it big. The director’s interest in him assures Devon his dreams are about to become reality.

Sparks between Collette and Devon set their lives ablaze, but the studio has other plans. Executives concoct a fictitious romance in order to drive box office sales and launch careers between Devon and Liliana. When the studio offers to make the young actors into bona fide stars, will the price be too high to pay, or will the deal be too sweet to pass up?

Can the trio handle the pressure of a hidden romance coupled with a phony public relationship? Will love be enough to conquer the promise of fame, fortune, and a lasting legacy, or will it be an easy sacrifice?

All three will tread the thin line of Hollywood Lies and genuine passion on the most important red carpet walk of their lives.

[Excerpt]

“I’ve never played a Gibson like this before.”
“Is it everything you dreamed it would be?”
I lay the guitar over my legs and push my hair off my forehead. “It’s awesome.”
Cole continues to play.
I can’t help myself and blurt out a few questions. “Why are you so interested in me? Why’d you give me the part? Why’re you having dinner with me?”
Cole’s thumb brushes the strings one last time, but produces no sound. “Why is your confidence so low that you have to ask?”
I break eye contact with her; she doesn’t speak until I bring them back up.
“Professionally, I see a lot of talent in you. I believe you’re going to be a powerful force in Hollywood, and all you need is someone to vouch for you.”
“And that someone is you?”
“Do you have anyone else lined up?”
God, I wish I could have the upper hand in a discussion just once. It’s not just with Collette. This is how my entire life has gone, with me struggling to keep up. I shake my head.
“Actually, now is as good of time as any to talk to you about future roles. I’m directing a film right after Tortured Desires wraps. I want to discuss you taking the lead role.”
My mouth hangs open before I realize how stupid I must look. “Holy sh!t, really?”
“Yes. It’s another low-budget film, but it’s very dramatic and will show you can do something other than mindless teenage romances.”
Tortured Desires isn’t mindless,” I say, then snap my mouth closed. I have to stay focused. “This new one, what’s it called?”
“The working title is Call Me Out, but the studio wants to call it Reflections. Anyway, you’d play the lead, Hayden, who is kind of a messed up kid because of his family history, but he’s looking for something to set him on the right path.”
“Kid?” I ask, wondering if this is just another movie aimed for teenaged consumption.
“Well, he’s in his twenties, like you.” She smiles and shakes her head. “Sorry, I’ve become an old woman now that I’m in my thirties. I tend to think of people in their twenties as kids.”
I hope she doesn’t think of me like that, but maybe it’s never been a bad thing to be young in Hollywood.
“I’d love the role.” I don’t even need to look at the script. If Cole believes in it and is directing it, that is all I need to jump in feet first. Then I remember a condition she put on why she was interested in me. “You said professionally. Are you interested in me in some other way?” Voicing the question makes my heart rate rise just a bit. I’m like a walking chick flick, complete with racing hearts and gushing hope.
“God, I love how innocent you are right now.”

[BLURB]

Sarai was only fourteen when her mother uprooted her to live in Mexico with a notorious drug lord. Over time she forgot what it was like to live a normal life, but she never let go of her hope to escape the compound where she has been held for the past nine years.

Victor is a cold-blooded assassin who, like Sarai, has known only death and violence since he was a young boy. When Victor arrives at the compound to collect details and payment for a hit, Sarai sees him as her only opportunity for escape. But things don’t go as planned and instead of finding transport back to Tucson, she finds herself free from one dangerous man and caught in the clutches of another.

While on the run, Victor strays from his primal nature as he succumbs to his conscience and resolves to help Sarai. As they grow closer, he finds himself willing to risk everything to keep her alive; even his relationship with his devoted brother and liaison, Niklas, who now like everyone else wants Sarai dead.

As Victor and Sarai slowly build a trust, the differences between them seem to lessen, and an unlikely attraction intensifies. But Victor’s brutal skills and experience may not be enough in the end to save her, as the power she unknowingly holds over him may ultimately be what gets her killed.
This is their story…

[MY REVIEW]

The very first thing I need to say is that I absolutely, with my whole heart and every fiber in my body LOVED LOVED … did I say LOVE? YES! LOVED Killing Sarai!!!

Yup, Killing Sarai is up there with Hopeless, Beautiful Disaster, Real and Tangled.  I don’t have that many spots on my top favorites, but Killing Sarai landed a spot.  Honestly, I loved The Edge of Never and yes I had expectations from J.A. Redmerski, but I had no idea my expectations were going to be met by tenfold!

[Cliff-notes  version of my review]
I’m going to do a lot gushing, so, if you want something short and sweet, here it is…

Here is my version of Victor

Here is my version of Sarai

And there is my short version of review.  I went into Killing Sarai without knowing anything and if you are like me, just do it BUT first, scroll down to the giveaway and enter your chance to win a copy.  However if you need a review, then proceed.

[Full Review]
…while peering into my eyes, though beyond them. I wonder what he’s looking for in their depths. Whatever it is, I hope he never finds it so that we can stay like this forever.

I absolutely loved Sarai and Victor.  She was the perfect Heroine and Victor was the perfect Hero, also known as the future father of my child and a book boyfriend.  You.feel.for.Sarai. Her innocence was taken from her and all she has ever known was to do what she had to do to survive yet she’s human and has inner conflicts.  I understood Sarai completely.  I felt like I was her, I felt like I was asking the same questions and I just wanted to help her!

There is a stark difference between fear and uncertainty, Sarai. You fear nothing but are uncertain of everything.

Then, there’s cold, calculating Victor who is just 100% lickable and edible.  I don’t know how to describe him.  There’s just something so sexy about a calm, confident, yet deadly man.

I am attracted to him. I do have a strange, unfamiliar feelings for him. And I hate it!

Let me just say, this read isn’t steamy, but oh you could cut the sexual tension with a knife and I love it!  In the beginning Sarai is just trying to find her way back to America and Victor is well to me a huge blank.  We don’t really understand what goes on until later and it’s just a perfect dance of giving me what I need instead of what I want.  I like this and I love the tension.

I feel like a toy and Victor knows every button on me which to push, to touch, in order to make me do whatever he wants, feel whatever he wants me to feel.  And I don’t mind.

My emotions throughout the read…

At 1% I’m like oh damn… from page one I was hooked

At 12% I felt like I was going to read something epic

At 32% my mind is blown away

At 74% I am just glued to my tablet and I don’t want the read to end

At 82% I have no f@cking clue to what’s going on, but I love it

At 100%.... I just had a book orgasm

What made me love Killing Sarai so much was the natural progression of Sarai and Victor’s relationship from beginning to end .  I can’t tell you enough how I love character build-up and relationships forming from trust, understanding and sometimes self-sacrifice, instead of just pure lust.  You will not know what happens from start to finish and it was perfect.

I don’t really want to recap the plot too much. I feel you should go into this read with little in mind.  Just know while reading it, there will be a lot of tension, dramatic situations, shooting, chasing, dying and just mind f&cks throughout the way.

Oh and there is a cliff-hanger, kind of.  I mean the ending opens to book 2, Reviving Izabel, but I was okay with it.  It's an open cliff-hanger, but you are left very satisfied.  I know, I hate cliffys too, but this one isn't bad. I promise!

I am grateful… for everything you’ve done for me. I guess in the end none of it will really matter, not saving my life or sparing it. But I’ll always be grateful to you.

RATING

GOODREADS

[GUEST POST]

J.A. REDMERSKI’S FAVORITE QUOTES IN KILLING SARAI (in no particular order)

1. “I am discipline. Sarai is rage. I am aware of my choices at all times. Sarai’s choices are more aware of her, lying in wait to decide for her based on the severity of her mood with no intention in leaving her any conscious control over it.” – Victor Faust in Killing Sarai
I chose this quote because it is when Victor finally realizes the severity of the damage that living in the compound for nine years has done to Sarai. It’s a moment in the novel when that line between them ultimately fades, revealing just how much alike they really are.

2. “…if she presses me further with those soft lips and sad, vulnerable eyes I’ll succumb to the moment and either fuck her or kill her.” – Victor Faust in Killing Sarai
I think this quote was chosen for obvious reasons!

3. “Like me, the nightmares of his experiences have long since vanished, leaving only a morbid sense of normality to which nightmares no longer deem fit to visit.” – Sarai Cohen in Killing Sarai
This quote is meaningful in the way that it’s when Sarai, like I explained above in Victor’s quote, sees how much alike they are.

4. “You are wealthy, though no one needs to know where your money comes from, only that you have enough of it to wipe your ass with one hundred dollar bills every time you take a shit.” – Victor Faust in Killing Sarai
I love this quote because it shows a ‘sort of’ lighter side to Victor. This is from a scene where Victor is gearing Sarai up for taking on the role of a ‘rich brat’ as they go on a mission together.

5. “I don’t think that this thing between us is love, or even lust. It’s something else, something powerful and unmistakable that neither of us have been able to ignore. But it doesn’t have a face.” – Sarai Cohen in Killing Sarai
This quote is the moment when Sarai questions their feelings for one another and it’s meaningful because neither of them have ever been in love before. They don’t know what it feels like so they may never be sure….

6. “We sit in stillness, both looking out ahead, both married to our thoughts. I wonder if hers are about me. I can’t help but for mine to be about her.” – Victor Faust in Killing Sarai

I like this quote because through all of Victor’s brooding, mysterious nature, I think it really shows that deep down he is so much more than what he perceives himself to be. And it also reveals his growing feelings for Sarai.

3 Angsty Stars

[My Summary + Review]

Victoria isn’t your typical freshman in college. She has severe panic attacks, to the point where it makes her physically sick.  She meets Jared at the grocery store where she works and helps him find some items.  Later she meets him again and when things get too steamy, Victoria panics and leaves Jared.   Each time Victoria and Jared crosses paths, Victoria is confused by his hot and cold personality, which isn’t easy to deal with since her panic attacks aren’t subsiding anytime soon.
Angst is from Victoria’s POV and there’s a bit of flashbacks and flash-forwards.  I would say there’s three timelines, past, present, future.  The present and future are about 6 months to a year off.  It can be a bit difficult to keep track, but just be mindful of the titles on each chapter.

 [Victoria]
In the beginning you get the feeling something isn’t right with Victoria.  I usually do not like flashbacks, however, I don’t often have reads that have flash-forwards, so I was kind of interested with that.  With that said, it all kind of worked.  Victoria has a lot of flaws and isn’t always a likable Heroine, but it kind of just makes her real.
I love to read about damaged characters, it just seems so much more relatable.  I remember going to college parties, drinking, and making a fool of myself in front of a guy to get attention, we have all done it, it just that we don’t admit it. I commend Victoria Sawyer for creating a complex yet raw and emotional character.  It’s interesting to see Victoria, get “set-off” over normal things.  It’s all new to me and it was fascinating to watch how much her anxiety takes so much control.

[Jared]
Oh Jared.  I’m pretty much up and down with him.  I thought Jared and Victoria had the perfect met cute!  I mean, she helped him find “difficult” items at the store, that’s freaking adorable.  Jared is what I like to call a “reaction” kind of guy.  He reacts to Victoria’s behavior.  I.GET.IT.  We as the reader know what’s going on in Victoria’s head, but all Jared sees is a girl who he is interested in, but kind of acts crazy (I’ll explain this below).

[The Relationship]
The relationship between Jared and Victoria gets steamy real quick and then we get tension and not your small, mild kind, Angst was an explosion of tension.  The banter between Jared and Victoria is really gritty too (this is no fairy-tale story).
You are a f&cking b@stard, Jared McKinley, and I’m tired of dealing with your bullsh!t and your f&cking mind games!
I want to f&ck you, okay? I’ve wanted to since day one and I can’t pretend anymore that I don’t. But … you… piss me the f&ck off… I want to f&ck you, but I won’t
Every time Victoria goes into a difficult situation she’s on the verge of a panic attack and she copes by drinking or acting kind of irrational, like giving lap dances and using drugs.  She’s replacing her anxious feelings with a physical stimulate, which isn’t healthy, but it’s how she copes.

[Overall]
I thought the ending was a bit wrapped up too neatly and the excessive party scenes were a bit much for me.  However, I enjoyed the poems Victoria expressed because it really made me feel like I got to know her better.  I also liked the dialogue between Jared and Victoria because at times it was kind of explosive, but really good!
Overall, Angst is very descriptive and well… angsty, so if those are the kind of reads you enjoy, then this is perfect for you.

[Summary]

There are two things I want out of my freshman year of college: to hook up with confusing hottie Jared and to chug some beer as soon as possible.

Getting wasted is like purely medicinal freedom. I murder my secret and constant soul sucking fear and tense nervous body beneath 17 glorious shots of pseudo-sanity. And destroying self-conscious crazy me reveals a sexy confident stranger who likes to try wild new things.

Then there’s the Jared complication, the guy with the Halloween costume that features his ripped and naked chest. It’s an attraction I can’t deny. Too bad I can’t understand what he wants because half the time we’re making out on the dance floor and the other half we’re screaming at each other about whether or not I’m a party slut.

And as the year party-crashes to an end, my drunk-scapades and severe panic attacks want me to pay up, big time. What little sanity I started out with is clinging by a thin thread and when that thread snaps, I’m lying on the cold basement floor of my parents’ house, a loaded hand gun kissing my hot tear streaked forehead.

As I’m craving the freedom and soothing blackness of death, he calls and I open up like a fire hose of self-hating hot mess. After we hang up, I make a choice.

[About the Author]

"Passionate about writing, graphic design, creativity. Fueled by the light and dark. Beauty, color, euphoria, artistic frenzy, depression, panic, anxiety."

What you see on the outside is not what you get on the inside. On the outside, Victoria Sawyer is polished, confident, put together, but on the inside things are a bit different. She's creative, thoughts whirling, anxious, alternately depressed and happy or self-critical and confident, energetic, charismatic, cranky and panicked.

She has suffered from panic attacks, anxiety and depression since the age of 10 and has been writing for just about as long. Her love of writing started as journal entries as therapy and eventually morphed into a melding of fact and fiction. Sometimes writing drives her to drink or drinking drives her to write or sometimes it's depression, anger, mental illness or love.

Angst is a story she has always wanted to tell, a fiction retelling of her own struggles as a college freshman. Her goal is to be completely honest about mental illness and life's struggles and to reduce the stigma of mental disorders. She hopes to follow up with a second book featuring Victoria in the future.

[EXCERPT]
“You got a jacket in there too?” Lane asks as I pull off my heels and swap them with a pair of flip flops.
“I don’t, but I’m fine,” I say and then as if to contradict myself my skin explodes with goose bumps.
Lane laughs then walks to his car and pulls out the light blue zip up hooded sweatshirt he was wearing at the bluffs from his back seat. He holds it open so I can stick my arms in and when I do his intoxicating smell surrounds me. Sea salt, sunshine and boy.

“Better?” he asks, stepping in front of me again and rubbing his hands up and down my now covered arms to help warm me up.

“Perfect.”

Lane’s hands stop moving but stay wrapped around my arms, and the way he’s looking at me makes another shiver go through my body.

“So, where are we going?”

“Now that’s a surprise,” he says with a wink before he takes off his tie and tosses it in the back seat of his car. He un-tucks his crisp white dress shirt then undoes the first few buttons, revealing a baby blue tee shirt underneath that matches his eyes. After rolling up his sleeves he instantly looks more relaxed, and so hot I bite my lip.

He opens the passenger side door and helps me in before making his way around the front of the car and leaping into the driver’s side seat with a wink. I’m not sure if he’s trying to kill me, or impress me, but either way, he’s doing a fine job at both.

“Oh, and one last thing.” He leans forward and cups my face in his hands with a playful grin on his face. I suck in a breath as my heart hammers in my chest. Is he going to kiss me? I let my eyes flutter closed when I feel his breath touch my skin. His soft lips press against my cheek and linger for a moment before he pulls away.

“What was that for?” I ask quietly.
“For giving me a do-over,” he says with a boyish smile.
Yep. He’s trying to kill me

[EXCERPT]
Joshua and I both headed out of the council hall with Jacqueline leading the way. The line of young men had barely dwindled. I avoided their stare, their curiosity as they slowly proceeded forward, giving the attendant their name. I wondered how they knew about me and more importantly what they knew. Jacqueline walked a few feet ahead of us, giving us privacy to talk. I silently thanked her for still respecting us and our wishes. She was probably the only one in Haven who liked us. I didn’t know if I should be relieved or angered by the recent news. I could feel the whispers, like tingles against bare skin as we walked further from council hall and rounded the corner. I was grateful to be out of sight from all those curious stares. "I guess we should consider ourselves lucky," I remarked. I didn't feel lucky. I tried to sound upbeat, but everything was quickly falling apart around us.

Joshua scoffed at the idea. "Lucky? I wouldn't go that far," he emphasized. "This is how it starts. Eventually, they'll make it a crime for us to see one another." He sounded disgusted.

"They sort of already are," I remarked, trying to understand the council's decision. "I think they just want to make sure I'm protected." Though I didn't quite understand how setting me up to meet multiple bachelors was any form of protection. It seemed as if they only wanted to keep Joshua away from me. The one person I could trust, implicitly. I knew the rules were different because I was different. They didn’t seem particularly bothered by Joshua having a girl in his room. It didn’t seem fair.

"Seems like they don't really care what we think at all," Joshua retorted as we headed into our building. "Were you okay last night? I worried when Landon escorted you out of the dormitory."

I walked slowly up the stairs, Jacqueline just a few feet ahead of us. "Aside from being locked in a room with no windows." I sighed. "At least they're giving me freedom from the tech center and a real bed. I should be grateful," I mocked. I didn't feel grateful, but I knew his mother at least tried to make it easier for me. As soon as we crested the top stair, I froze in place. The building shook with an alarming intensity as the first drone flew low overhead. The downstairs chandelier swayed and I held onto Joshua's arm and my eyes widened in terror. "What do you think is going on?" I asked watching the movement grow stronger as vibrations echoed through the dormitory. A nearby painting affixed to the wall crashed to the floor, the glass breaking. I could feel the ground quake beneath my feet as Joshua grabbed my hand, refusing to let go.

"We're being attacked." It wasn't a question. Together, we jogged briskly down the hall toward our rooms. I didn't know how much time we had. All I knew was the government was here, and they were searching for me!

[INTERVIEW]
What was the hardest part of writing Aberrant?
The hardest part was writing the characters suffering. I know that they will get through the pain - physical or emotional - and it will make them stronger, but it's still hard to torture your favorite character.

Who was your favorite character to write in Aberrant?
I had the most fun with writing Olivia. She's full of so many mixed emotions and traits that we're always learning something about who she is. She's not complacent. She has a mind of her own and likes to explore the world around her. She's curious by nature and it has the tendency to get her into trouble. She's complex, which makes her three-dimensional, but also incredibly caring and supportive of those she loves.

Why did you decide on making Aberrant into a series?
I felt like I had a huge story to tell. Something that would span across hundreds of thousands of words. That may not seem like a lot but when sending your novel to agents and publishers, there's a certain word count they're looking for in new authors and in young adult/new adult titles. The only way to properly tell the story, was to turn it into a trilogy.

Do you have the second and third book planned already?
Without getting into any specifics, yes! The next book, Moirai, will be available sometime in 2014. The first draft was finished last December but with the edits and some significant changes in Aberrant, I need to make the story flow a little smoother.

Can you tell us about one of these changes in Aberrant? What was added to the story?
Down to the final edits, I was adding details and shaping each character just a little bit more. I wanted the world that they're in and the cities to feel real. I wanted you to experience it, just as Olivia has for the first time. The very end of the Aberrant, I added a glimpse at what we can expect in the second novel. That was one of the final edits that was added, among many others.

Title: Intimate

Genre:  Contemporary Romance
Age Group:  New Adult/Adult

I am SUPER excited about this!  I love Noelle Adams.  My FIVE star review of Listed (also by Noelle Adams) is - > HERE
I haven't read Intimate, but this is on top of my TBR list!

[BLURB]
They've loved each other for years, but they've never been intimate before.

Marissa has decided to live without sex, since it's brought her nothing but trauma. At twenty-three, she'd rather just be celibate, and not even her best friend, Caleb, will change her mind.

After spending his childhood touring as a concert cello prodigy, Caleb is experimenting with living a stable life. For years, he has refused to commit to anything except his friendship with Marissa, but his feelings for her have never been romantic. Until recently.

So now he has to show her that sex doesn't have to hurt.

GOODREADS
[EXCERPT]
“I’m perfectly capable of getting rid of my own unwanted admirers. I sure don’t need you storming in like an uncouth cowboy protecting the last virgin in the territory.” Marissa’s lips were curled in annoyance.
Despite his intensity—sometimes bordering on obsessiveness—Caleb actually had a fairly well-developed sense of humor.
His mouth quirked involuntarily at her words, and he saw a responding gleam of humor ignite in her eyes.
She was still too mad at him to follow up on it, but the sight of her brief flash of amusement softened Caleb’s voice as he responded. “Maybe I overreacted, but it’s been a long time since sex has been a part of your life. You might not understand what drives a man. Just because you’re not thinking about sex doesn’t mean that men are going to back off.”
Apparently—despite the strange tenderness that had warmed his voice—this had been the wrong thing to say.
“Damn it, Caleb. You’re treating me like I’m some clueless girl who doesn’t know a penis from a candlestick. I made a conscious decision not to have sex. It wasn’t based on naiveté. Having sex doesn’t make people more mature, or more knowledgeable, or more in control of their surroundings—and I’ll defy anyone who says it does. I haven’t spent the last five years in a convent. I am perfectly capable of realizing when a man is hitting on me. I can tell when he wants to get me into bed.”
She was right, for the most part. Caleb was acting irrationally.
But he hoped she was wrong about one thing. Hoped she wasn’t quite as observant as she believed.
He really hoped she didn’t know that for the last two weeks he’d been dreaming of getting her into bed.
“I was just trying to help.”
“No, you weren’t. It was some macho pissing contest. I don’t know what’s gotten into you for the last week or two, but I’m really getting sick of it.”
Caleb was getting sick of it too.

[Book Description]

Seven years ago, Matthew Logan ran out on his wedding to June Leigh.

Life is good for fledgling dress-designer April Leigh. She couldn’t be happier that her sister has found a new love, and is excited about her very first commission, June’s wedding dress.

When April discovers June has invited runaway groom Matthew Logan to the wedding, she has to intervene. Matthew’s presence will ruin everything – her father hates him, and just the sight of him in the church might give her mother a heart attack.

Matthew Logan has no intention of going to June’s wedding, but when intriguing April arrives on his doorstep, he can’t resist getting to know her better. When a disaster forces them together neither can deny the passion that combusts into a red-hot affair.

Discovering the truth about the past shifts April’s feelings from lust to love, but bitter experience has taught Matthew to guard his heart.

When it looks as though Matthew will lose her forever, will he fight or flee?

[Excerpt]

“Drink your cocoa before it goes cold.” Matthew drank his, leaving a milky chocolate trail across his top lip.
She couldn’t stop staring.

Matthew’s eyes darkened. He cupped her cheek. “What?” His deep voice was just a murmur.
Attraction hung in the air. Reflections cast by the flickering flames in the darkened room changed the shadows on the side of Matthew’s face.

April held her breath. If she said nothing, if she leaned forward he would kiss her. Part of her wanted him to more than anything.

He leaned in.

“You have milk on your top lip.” She pulled back.

“Ah.” He wiped his lip. “Milk moustache, huh?”

She breathed out. Tried for casual to lighten the moment. “It’s a good look on you.”
He took another deliberate drink, letting the foam cover his lip again. “Sexy?” he murmured. His fingers smoothed over her soft skin, then slid into her hair. His gaze held hers as he swiped the foam away with his tongue, leaving his mouth clear.

April swallowed. Yes, it was sexy. He was beyond sexy. Taking what she wanted, what she needed couldn’t be bad—anyone could forgive her under the circumstances. Her chin tilted up.
His hand cupped the back of her head, bringing her closer. Her eyelids fluttered closed a moment before his lips met hers.

She’d needed comfort. The touch of his mouth against hers gave a lot more. Maybe it was because of all the men in the world, he was the one she couldn’t have. Maybe it was something different. As her mouth opened and their tongues tangled, she gave up wondering and just let herself feel. She breathed him in with every exhale, the scent of citrus, vetiver maybe, mixed with man. He held her face so tenderly her heart melted.

PHANTOM AND DEMON

Phantom (Dark Musicals Trilogy Book #1) by Laura DeLuca

[Blurb]

The “Phantom” was a musical phenomenon that Rebecca had always found enchanting. She had no idea that her life was about to mirror the play that was her obsession. When her high school drama club chooses “Phantom” as their annual production, Rebecca finds herself in the middle of an unlikely love triangle and the target of a sadistic stalker who uses the lines from the play as their calling card.

Rebecca lands the lead role of Christine, the opera diva, and like her character, she is torn between her two co-stars—Tom the surfer and basketball star who plays the lovable hero, and Justyn, the strangely appealing Goth who is more than realistic in the role of the tortured artist.

Almost immediately after casting, strange things start to happen both on and off the stage. Curtains fall. Mirrors are shattered. People are hurt in true phantom style. They all seem like accidents until Rebecca receives notes and phone calls that hint at something more sinister. Is Justyn bringing to life the twisted character of the phantom? Or in real life are the roles of the hero and the villain reversed? Rebecca doesn’t know who to trust, but she knows she’s running out of time as she gets closer and closer to opening night. Only when the mask is stripped away, will the twenty first century phantom finally be revealed.

Demon (Dark Musicals Trilogy Book #2) by Laura DeLuca

[Blurb]

When Justyn and Rebecca set off for the New York School of Performing Arts, they think their dreams are about to come true. To their dismay, they aren’t in high school anymore, and the competition is steep. Rebecca must compete against accomplished singers for a role in the production of Demon Barber, including a stunning Gothic diva with her sights set on Justyn

It doesn't help that things keep disappearing from their apartment or that Rebecca's father refuses to accept that Justyn is an essential part of her life. Yet, all this seems minimal in comparison to the serial rapist terrorizing the campus.

Consumed by fear and obsessed with revenge, Rebecca and Justyn start living the story of Sweeney Todd—both on and off the stage.

[Phantom Excerpt]

The orchestra tuned for its virtuoso, and Justyn stood ready. But no one else was ready for the magical performance he began. Beside her, Carmen was rambling on about something mundane. Rebecca elbowed her to silence so she could listen to the perfectly thrilling tenor. As she listened to the song unfold, the world around her started to slip away. Gone was the high school auditorium. Gone were the rowdy teenagers. The Gothic stranger on the stage had become the embodiment of Erik, and Rebecca watched him in all his dark glory, belting out his tormented love through the words of his song. And she was as breathless with wonder as Christine herself must have been when the masked stranger serenaded her in the candlelit labyrinth of the opera house. In that moment, Justyn wasn’t just portraying the phantom. Justyn was the phantom.

“Let the music touch your soul.
Let the darkness make you whole.
Do not fear what is unknown.
Your true path has now been shown.
Listen to the words I sing.
Embrace the peace that night will bring.”

As he continued to sing in his deep but somehow angelic voice, Rebecca found that she couldn’t tear her eyes away from him. With every line, her heart began to beat faster.  She truly felt the arms of night wrapping her in a warm embrace. She could almost feel the hands of the phantom glide along her body as the words poured forth. The music caressed her. It possessed her—mind, body and soul. Each word left her longing, yearning for more.

She was gawking so obviously, it was hardly surprising when Justyn felt her eyes on him and steadily met her gaze. She realized her mouth was hanging open in stunned awe, and she quickly snapped it shut. His lips moved into just a small hint of a smile. He never took his eyes off her while he sang the final verse, making her cheeks flush to the point that she felt almost feverish. But it wasn’t embarrassment but excitement, arousal even, which was sending her mind spinning in so many directions.

When the song was over, and Rebecca had recovered just a hint of her composure, she couldn’t help but burst into a healthy round of applause. A few scattered people joined in, including Debbie and Carmen after she nudged them in the ribs. But only Miss King seemed to truly appreciate the brilliance of his talent as much as Rebecca did.

“That was amazing, Justyn!” the teacher gushed.

“Lord Justyn,” he corrected as he stepped down from the stage.

A few others complimented him as well, but he took in all in stride. In fact, his serious expression never faltered as he stepped down from the stage. He seemed almost bored, like it was all he could do to hold back a yawn, despite the smiles and words of encouragement.

But not everyone in the crowd was pleased as Justyn glided down the aisle, so ethereal in his dark garments that he still resonated the spirit of the Opera Ghost. Miss King might have been excited about the newest male addition to her cast after being limited for many years, but Tom and his group of boisterous companions glared at him as he passed them by.  Jay sneered and tossed a balled up piece of paper in Justyn’s direction, but the Goth was quick, and caught it in his hand without missing a beat.

“I think you dropped something,” he said.

His speaking voice was no less melodic than his singing voice, but something about his tone made Rebecca shiver. He tossed the paper back at Jay, who was nowhere near as coordinated as Justyn. He practically fell off his seat in his efforts to catch it.

“Hey vampire,” Tom called when Justyn went to walk away. “Are you sure you can handle the competition?”

Justyn smiled, a cool, sarcastic half-smile, and crossed his arms over his chest. “Are you?”

Miss King didn’t notice the short confrontation, and Justyn vanished from the auditorium as quickly and mysteriously as he had appeared. Only Rebecca had noticed the very real tension between the two boys. She wondered if it was a bad omen for them to start off the production with hard feelings and envy. That could only lead to trouble. The kind of trouble that could end with someone getting hurt.  The kind of trouble that Rebecca would do whatever it took to avoid.

[Excerpt]

No, no…just no. I kept repeating the mantra in my head: I will not kiss Nick.  I will not kiss Nick.

Though I really wanted to. Really, really wanted to know the feel of his lips and have his hands press against my back again, eliminating all space between us. My mind then upgraded that simple kiss to a few make-believe scenarios that were so graphic my body was in constant movement, slowly squirming in a wavelike motion. When a longing moan escaped with my breath, my eyes bolted wide.

“Sh!t!” I threw the covers off and rolled out of bed. Hightailing it to the shower, I offered a quick good morning to Nick on the sofa, noting the wicked smile he gave in return. Oh, God. Please tell me that moan wasn’t loud enough for him to hear!

The hot water worked wonders on my tight muscles, and by the time I dressed and came back out, I was so relaxed I no longer opposed the flirtatious smiles Nick continued to throw my way. But when he turned his back, my eyes began to narrow. This was the first morning since becoming roommates that he decided not to bother with a shirt, strutting around in nothing but a pair of loose-fitted cotton pants, luring my gaze to the sexy sculpture of his upper body.

I cursed the butterflies flittering inside and my damn eyes, which couldn’t seem to stop looking.
God, I hated him. Well, not really, but I hated how efficient he was in making me want him. Ever since he activated those butterflies last night, I just couldn’t shut the damn things off. They were still flitting around, making me antsy and driving me crazy for not kissing him. And despite my best efforts to convince myself to not get involved, I felt my resolve dissipating. I wanted to rewind time so bad, and this time ignore the distractions and stay put in his arms for that kiss.

I entered the kitchen, where he was already leaning over the counter drinking his coffee and reading the paper. Seriously, what time did he wake up every morning to get all that before I even woke up? I hung my head backwards, just realizing he absolutely was half-naked for my benefit, because he would’ve had to put on a shirt to go out. Sucking my lower lip in and out of my mouth, I focused in on the black tribal sleeve tattoo that began halfway up his upper left arm and curled over the edge of his shoulder. I couldn’t see it at the moment, but I knew it covered part of his chest too. “Is that your only tattoo?” I asked. I knew it wasn’t. I had already seen something resembling jagged edges peeking out over the edge of his pants. I’d only asked because a sense of playfulness was overtaking me. And my eyes desired a special treat.

“No. I also have a sunburst, but I doubt you’d want to see it.”

Taking the bait, I inquired, “Oh, yeah? Why’s that?”

He twisted his torso towards me and took the longest sip of coffee ever. Fighting the extension of his already curving lips, he replied smoothly, “Because it’s some place you’re too shy to look.”

TAKING BACK FOREVER

TAKING BACK FOREVER  (Kindrily, #2)
May 31st 2013 by Starry Sky Publishing

Forever is worth the fight.

Maryah erased all memory of her past lives, but she couldn’t erase her soul mate Nathan, or his undying love. Now, Maryah and Nathan have a second chance at a future together, but first Maryah must remember the person she used to be and embrace her supernatural gifts—more than one kindrily member’s life depends on it.

Maryah’s power is Harmony’s best hope of finding her kidnapped soul mate, Gregory. But Harmony isn’t big on asking anyone for help, and she’s tired of waiting, so she’s taking matters into her own hands. Heaven help anyone who stands in her way

Excerpts

[First Teaser]
In the short week since Maryah’s momentary remembrance of him, Nate had come alive again. He smiled all the time. His eyes were brighter. I was happy for him, but it left me feeling more alone than ever. He had been my partner in suffering over our lost soul mates. But not anymore.

I gazed at the landscape of Sedona behind him. To myself, I could admit my jealousy of his and Maryah’s reunion, but I’d never say it out loud. “How’s it feel? To have her back after all this time?”
“I don’t have her back. She hardly remembers anything. But I don’t have to hide who and what I am anymore, or that I love her. She knows who she was and where she belongs. I’m patiently waiting for her to figure out who she is now, and what she’s capable of.”

“She loves you. I can see it.”
“I am ecstatically grateful for that. But I still feel the loss of her, of all the time we shared together. It’s like we’re getting to know each other for the first time all over again. We haven’t had to do that for hundreds of years.” His head drooped. “What if she doesn’t like what she discovers?”

“Oh, please. You two light up around each other. That girl is smitten, and so are you.”
His cheeks flushed. “It’s amazing how much more you appreciate someone after you’ve lost them. Her happiness means everything to me. I want to give her the world, the magical and beautiful one she can no longer see, but I worry that’s no longer possible.”

“Give it time. If there’s one thing Mary proved over and over, it’s that anything is possible.”

[Second Teaser]

[Third Teaser]
“Shiloh, you know he has the ability to see clearly in the dark, and that he sees light and color differently than the rest of us.”
I nodded.
“Well, he swears he can still see your star in the sky.”
“You said my star fell. That it was gone.”

“I know. And I can’t see it. As much as I’ve tried and hoped to see a flicker of light where your star used to shine, I still see nothing. But Shiloh doesn’t lie. And he swears he can see something.”
I lifted my face and scanned the cloudless sky above us. “What does that mean?”

“It means you erased, but you aren’t gone. We know that’s true because you have remembered glimpses of our past. It gives me hope that you’ll remember more. I wanted to tell you what Shiloh sees so you could share that hope. Your star didn’t fall from the sky like I originally believed. Erasing caused it to burn out, but I believe you can reignite it.”

I looked at the sky again. I wanted to see the stars. I wanted to see my star. I wanted to burn so brightly that other galaxies could see me. But wanting and doing were very different things. Doing, I thought. It was up to me to do something. No one could make my star shine except me.
Nathan did give me hope. According to Shiloh, I still had a place in the heavens. I was determined to turn on the light so that everyone could see I was home again.

Cat loved Gabe from the time she was five years old. She thought it would be easy: fall in love with your childhood sweetheart, get married and live happily ever after. But as the years go on, the fairy tale soon falls apart. At twenty, Gabe – penniless, unable to find work, and drinking himself into a bad reputation – leaves New Orleans, believing that Cat is better off without him.

She doesn’t hear from him for three years.

Not until her bachelorette party, when he sends her a $400 bottle of Champagne the night before she’s set to marry Cort Belrose, a wealthy restaurateur that Gabe despises.

It seems the past three years have treated Gabe well. He’s now mysteriously wealthy and the picture of a perfect Southern gentleman – a gentleman who is quietly seeking vengeance on the man who forced him out of the city and stole the woman he loved.

With Gabe’s return, the sweltering heat of New Orleans becomes even more stifling as Cat struggles with the truth about her malicious husband and her consuming lifelong love for the vengeful and troubled Gabe.

I’m a Louisiana girl who loves to write about strong, opinionated women who go after what they want, even if they make a few mistakes on the way. And usually those mistakes involve MEN! (Sound like your life? Yeah, me too, lol). That being said, bad-ass women and the men they love make for great stories, and that’s what I always aim to bring my readers: A great story with lots of drama. A story you wanna keep reading. Persevere.

That's how I've gotten through nineteen years of life. It's what I do every single day—no matter how badly the odds are stacked against me.

Persevere, and survive.

Those are my two guiding words. I never knew either of my parents. I have no family and no home. The only person I could ever rely on was myself. In this cruel world, that's about as much as I could ask for.

Love? Hah. Don't talk to me about love. I stopped believing in it the day my first boyfriend ripped out my heart three years ago.

That's why love is the last thing on my mind when I leave a packed college bar with a captivating stranger. Yet everything changes when I'm awakened in the middle of the night by a pounding at the door. Suddenly, an arrangement meant for just one night threatens to become something much deeper.

All expectations are thrown to the wind as I'm tangled in a dangerous world unlike anything I can believe. The man I met has secrets swirling around him like a dark cape. I'm about to become his biggest one...

Together, we stumble toward the elevator. Rich breaks away for a second to hit the button. The light doesn’t come on.

“Damn,” he growls, “it’s busted again.”

I’m one step ahead of him. I’d spotted the stairs when we entered. I grab his hand and pull him after me with no hesitation. I start up the cement stairwell, determined to get to his room as fast as possible.

“Penny, wait.”

I look back, confused. “What?”

A devilish smile plays on his lips. “Only this.” Without warning his hands wrap around my waist, and I’m being lifted up as easily as if I were a doll. He turns to the side and presses my body against the wall, suspending me between him and the concrete.

His mouth crashes down on mine again. I curl my legs around his torso, locking my ankles together, and kiss him back with the passion reserved for a lover after ten long years apart. I didn’t think it was possible, but I’m getting even more turned on. Rich’s hands move down to grasp the outside of my thighs, and I moan into his kiss as the muscles of my core clench in sinful fashion. I want him so badly. If we don’t get somewhere private soon, I won’t be wholly opposed to jumping him in public.

I gasp as he steps away, freeing me from the wall. I start to fall, but one of his hands darts down to catch me just beneath the knees. The other one cradles my shoulders. Before I know it, I’m slung across his arms like a bride on her wedding night.

“I’ve always wanted to carry a girl up these stairs,” Rich admits.

I laugh, and wrap my arm around his neck. “Oh, you are just the best type of romantic.”

Four flights of stairs later, Rich pushes open the fire door to a dimly-lit hallway. He carries me down the hall and stops in front of an entrance on the right. He sets me down, then fishes around in his jeans for the key. When the door creaks open, he sweeps a hand out in front of him. “Welcome to my humble abode.”

I walk in, curious about his apartment. I tend to side with the camp of people who believe that a person’s living arrangements can reveal a lot about his personality. But, I don’t find much to work with here.

The apartment is sparse and dark. Pale moonlight filters in through the balcony window, shining down on the only piece of furniture present: a queen size mattress lying on the floor of the living room. The red brick walls are totally empty—no girly posters or other things I might expect in a bachelor’s apartment. There are no lamps, no chairs, no couches.

After a moment, I notice a second piece of furniture: a small, old-school CRT TV camped in one corner of the studio apartment.

Rich switches on the light. “So?” he asks, “what do you think?”

I walk past the entrance. There’s one hall leading away from the room. It is filled with brown cardboard boxes. Lots and lots of boxes. “Did you just move in or something?”

Rich laughs behind me. “Yeah, something like that. You want a drink?”

“A drink?” I say. “No, I—”

The words catch in my throat as he grabs my hips and spins me around. I had no idea he’d come so close. He’d moved from the door to me without making a sound. His fingers lock together against my lower back, and he tugs me into him, pressing my belly to his waist. I feel his growing erection right away, and a diabolical excitement builds inside me.

Nothing happens.

For a long moment, Richard just holds me like that, staring into my eyes as I’m left dangling off his arms. His irises are the color of sea mist. I’m hypnotized by the deep intensity I see brewing just beneath the surface. I have no doubt that that type of intensity is mirrored in my eyes.

Then, moving slowly, as if restraining himself, Richard lowers his mouth to cover mine. This time, his kiss is sweet and gentle. Subtle and caring. He explores my upper lip first, then traces the line going to the corner of my mouth. His lips form a perfect mold over mine.

I was wrong before. This is the kiss reserved for a lover you haven’t seen in ten years.

I'm kind of old fashioned. I write all my stories using paper and ink. At the end of the day, I transcribe them on my laptop. It takes a bit longer, but writing in a notebook really focuses my thoughts.

I love vintage photography. I have an old-school film camera that was my mom's from before I was born. I use it to take pictures almost every day. Yours to Savor is the first full book I worked on. It went through six drafts, and took me ten months to complete. In the two months since getting it done, I finished two drafts of brand new stories. I'm getting faster!

I love hearing from my readers. I love getting feedback about my books. I'm just getting started, and plan on doing this writing gig for a long, long time. I take inspiration from all the indie romance authors. Addison Moore, Samantha Young, Colleen Hoover, Jessica Sorensen, and everyone else…. you girls rock!

May 24th 2013 by Star Bound Books

In the tiny town of Willowspring, just about nothing ever happens except for layoffs, hockey games, and your average melodramatic teenage angst.

But that was before.

Vi, Ashley, and Macy are just trying to make it through the school year without one more humiliation when they team up for a simple photography assignment: create a story through a series of photographs. Can't be too much trouble, right?

Wrong.

The shutterbugs happen upon Willowspring High School's darkest secret. When everything around them starts to crumble after trying to do the right thing, their only hope is to stick together.

When the door opened to the alley behind the rink, I realized two things. One, it was freaking colder outside than it was in the bleachers by the ice, and two, Brianna Jones (A.K.A Bra stuffer) was already out there.

The three of us walked out as if it was perfectly normal to be there but Brianna didn’t even notice us. We walked to the opposite side of the alley and huddled together. We hoped it would look like we were keeping warm, but we were trying to hide both the cameras.

Watching Brianna was rather dull. She was just standing there, talking on her cell phone and it wasn’t even anything remotely interesting. We took pictures anyway, because like Mr. Bennett said, you need the before, during, and after to tell a story with photographs.

“Look! She is checking that car’s doors! That isn’t her car, is it?” The quiet clicking of the shutters on our cameras was almost deafening to me. I swore each click was louder and louder as we watched Brianna try to break into a car.

Finally, the last door she tried, the back passenger side, was open. She slipped in and a second later, the dark car had a red glow inside. She climbed back out, shut the door, and walked over to the wall, smoking a stolen cigarette.

“She just broke into someone’s car for a cigarette? Seriously?” Ashley was just as flabbergasted as the rest of us. Why would anyone risk committing a crime for a smoke? “Oh! She is moving again!”

Click, click, click. I took more and more pictures. I hated that they were all from the same angle, but spys have to do what they have to do to keep from being caught, all the while still getting the images.

Brianna walked back to the car and put the cigarette out on the hood. Lucky for whoever owned it there was a layer of snow to put it out before it could burn the paint. Then she leaned over and used the mirror. She pursed her lips, showed her teeth to check those, then she lifted her head slightly.

“What is she doing?” I whispered.

“I’m not sure.” Macy said breaking away from the group. “I am going over there, different angle.” Before I could stop her, she had gone back across the alley to the other side. She was braver than I was. Ashley watched her closely before turning back to me.

“Let me take some. I promise I won’t hurt Jilly.” I knew I had to hand it over. I promised her she could use it. Even knowing that, it didn’t make it any easier.

“Okay. Here.” I took the strap from around my neck and quickly placed it around hers. The minute the fabric was firmly against her skin, she took off, too. “Ash, what are you doing?” I whisper yelled to her.

She just put a finger over her mouth to shush me and she got even closer to the car than Macy had. I figured that made me look out so I opened my eyes and ears and tried to make sure my best friends didn’t get caught.

I looked over my shoulder to check the door to make sure we were still alone when all of a sudden I heard a scream.

“YOU LITTLE BITCH! GIVE ME THAT CAMERA NOW!” When I turned back to see what was going on (although I was pretty sure that either Macy or Ashley had been caught by Brianna) I saw my girls running towards me, with Brianna not far behind.

“Run!” Ash and Macy yelled through giggles. I turned and headed to the door and held it open for them. As soon as they passed through I closed it and the three of us went straight out the front door and to Macy’s truck.

“What on earth just happened?” I asked when I caught my breath. Ashley handed Jilly back to me and I flipped it on. The minute I pressed the play images button I began to laugh. The first one was of Brianna screaming at the camera. I pressed the next button and then it was a picture of her finger in her mouth. The next one was a picture of her finger in her nose.

I died laughing. Brianna Jones was a booger eater. I bet her boyfriend would love to know that.

“Oh, Ashley, you are amazing!” Then the truck erupted in laughter and because Macy’s dad had given her a twenty to get food at the overly expensive rink, we headed to the diner for some hot cocoa and French fries for half the cost. Who said teenagers were irresponsible with money?

Isn't it BEAUTIFUL!  I know, I've said it a million a times and I slightly shake my head in shame, but I do (and not always) judge a book by it's cover.  To me, if the read is fabulous and it also has a fabulous cover, well it's like winning the lottery twice.  I will post my review next week, but if you can't wait, check out my profile on GoodReads

Girl With Guitar is to be released May 22.

Summary/Blurb

After Kylie’s dad dies in a freak accident, he leaves her with nothing other than her crazy stepmother, Darla, and the ability to play guitar. When Darla kicks Kylie out and she loses her job all in the same day, she hops a bus to Nashville determined to make her late father’s dreams come true. Waitressing and saving her pennies to record a demo, her big break comes when she’s asked to join a tour going down the tubes with once platinum album-selling country music superstar Trace Corbin. But touring with Trace is hardly a dream come true since he’s pretty much drinking his career down the drain. If Kylie can’t pull Trace out of his rut, he’ll pull her and her dreams down with him.

Excerpt

“Evenin’ y’all,” Kylie drawled into the microphone. “I had a song I was gonna sing and then my friend Tonya, she might be your waitress, she told me it sucked—so I guess I’m just gonna play this here guitar and see where it takes us.” She grinned at the audience and then leaned closer to the mic once more. “Oh, and I go right back to serving after this, so if you don’t clap when I’m finished, I can’t be held responsible for what might happen to your drink between the bar and your table.” Kylie winked and strummed a few cords. “Okay, here we go.”

Laughter? Did she hear laughter? She thought she did.

I know you wanna tie me down, know you wanna put a ring on it, but I ain’t never been that kinda girl, not for all the money in the world.

Kylie launched into her modified version of Trace Corbin’s latest hit, Not That Kinda Man.  It was the famous bachelor’s latest lovin’ and leavin’ single and she was attempting to turn the thing on its ear. He’d written and sang it as a sad break up ballad and Kylie had remixed and reworked it into the single girl’s party anthem.

You wanna own me but you don’t know me. Guess what darlin’? When you wake up I’ll be gone.

Kylie flashed her sexiest grin and wiggled a little at the crowd. Then she shouted, “Sing it with me girls!” into the mic and picked up the tempo, launching into the chorus.

Several waitresses, Tonya included, stopped what they were doing to sing along. Not that Kylie could really see them, but the girls in the crowd joined in too. She sang to the guitar player, whose name she was pretty sure was Andy, and he played right along, smiling and winking at her the whole time. Well I’m not that kinda girl, don’t wanna play these games, not gonna wake up in your bed or take your name. She gave Andy a playful smack on the ass and he blew her a kiss. Shrieking whistles radiated from the audience.

The music hummed and pulsed against her and somewhere in Kylie’s mind a little voice said, Holy shit you’re doing it!

When the number was over, she practically flew off the stage, painfully aware of the pounding in her chest. Oh well, if I have a heart attack and die right this moment, I’ll die happy. The applause was loud enough to be heard over the ringing in her ears and she wanted it more than oxygen.

Clive was leaning on the bar, shaking his head but smiling. Tonya shot her two thumbs up. Kylie let out a little squeal of happiness and sent a silent thank you up to her daddy, feeling certain she was higher than any drug could ever take her.

She would let Tonya go home early tonight and do the rooms herself. She had enough energy to clean ten green rooms. When she told Tonya that, the woman hugged her. Hard. “You knocked ‘em dead, girl! That was amazing!”

“Yeah, well, I got some really good advice,” Kylie told her, unable to keep the permagrin off her face.

The next act stepped out of the shadows and took the stage. Kylie heard a deep male voice with a sexy southern drawl say, “Damn. Just my luck to have to follow that.”

The audience was still shrieking and screaming and Kylie knew she’d done well, but seriously?
“I apologize for standing y’all up a few weeks ago. Musta got my dates mixed up. Probably time to fire that manager of mine,” the handsome man on stage drawled.

Who was this guy? Whoever he was, the women in the audience were going crazy over him.
“Well, since that good looking waitress stole my number, guess I’ll have to sing something else. Where is that girl anyways?”

Oh God. Oh God, please no. Kylie’s heart sank and her high evaporated instantly. She turned to face the man on stage. Trace freaking Corbin was standing there with a guitar in one hand and the other to his eyes, scanning the crowd for…her.
