Music of the Heart (Runaway Train, #1) by Katie Ashley

2 Stars

**HUGE SIGH

I really really really wanted to like Music of the Heart. It had a lot of elements in a novel I enjoy, such as bad-boy rocker with tats, sweet naïve virgin Heroine and crazy love tension, HOWEVER

I JUST COULD NOT GET INTO IT.

I see the reviews and I just don’t get it. I am highly disappointed since I like Katie Ashley and The Proposition was fantastic! So…What went wrong?

So you have sweet virginal Abby, who is tagging along her brother’s band tour, but doesn’t know if she wants to be a singer? Really? Then you have Jake who is the lead singer of another band and of course he is a man-whore. Don’t get me wrong, I love me my man-whores, but Jake, oh I had so many issues with him.

Abby and Jake strike up a ridiculous bet, Jake doesn’t think Abby could stay on the same bus as him, but Abby disagrees and joins Jake on the bus for a week. Does this sound familiar to you? It’s silly, but I move forward. First off, Jake is just awful. Who could be attracted to that? He keeps on screwing women! Let me give you my version of the story…

Abby and Jake fight

Jake flirts with Abby

Abby says no way you can’t get past first base

Jake screws a girl because he’s horny

Jake says sorry

Abby forgives but still won’t let Jake get past first base

Jake screws a girl because he’s horny

Rinse and repeat…

The story was told in alternating POV’s and honestly I couldn’t tell a difference between Jake and Abby’s voice. I mean, can Jake cry anymore? I think when the Hero cries in the book, it has to be a very important part of the story (a shifting point), but to me, Jake just cried because he was upset or the sake of crying? Jake did a lot of horrible things while he was upset. Oh I really wanted to like him, especially when he was trying to redeem himself, BUT he kept on messing up!

Abby is twenty-one, but she acts like a seventeen year old. Her inner dialogue was very immature and she was just too forgiving. I mean how many times can you forgive a guy? I’ll admit she kind of got more confident towards the middle-end, but then she reverted back to her old self soon afterwards. I did not like Abby.

Music of the Heart was too long and had unlikeable characters. The plot was subpar and unoriginal. I felt like I was reading a combination of many other great reads but was getting a very bad knock-off. It PAINS me to write a negative review, because I am a fan of Katie Ashley. I just don’t understand what went wrong.

I’m will not move forward with this series BUT I will give Katie Ashley’s Net and Lies a go because I truly believe this was just a one-time mess up.

Own the Wind (Chaos, #1) by Kristen Ashley

5 Stars

May feel like you’re fallin’, Tabby, but remember, I’m at the bottom ready to catch you.

I am pleasantly surprised how much I LOVED Own the Wind. I haven’t read all of Kristen Ashley’s (KA) books, but Knight and Mystery Man were my favorite reads and I am happy to add Own the Wind to that list!

Own the Wind is a spin off from The Dream Man Series and this is Tack’s daughter’s story. Off bat, I like that Tabby and Shy are young. As much as I love reading about strong older men, sometimes I like to read about twenty-somethings falling in love.

I was hooked from page one. I really liked Tabby and I just felt for her. Something happens in the beginning and it kind of presents the tone and feel for the rest of the story and it was a really perfect plot in my opinion. Sometimes KA books don’t sit well with me because of the lack of drama. However, I am very happy with the mild-tension tone of the book.

Shy isn’t my favorite Hero, but I did like him. He just didn’t stand out on his own to me. Of course he’s domineering, bossy and sexy, but I felt like I was more connected with Tabby and probably because most of the book is in her POV. I really enjoyed everyone being leveled headed. Yes, there’s some banter (we all like that right?) but mostly it’s a story between two people forming a friendship into something more.

I absolutely love character development and I got that with Tabby and Shy. I didn’t want to start out with them already having sex. Instead, we got to see how they interact with each other over the course of several years. I really liked this (usually I don’t), but I was getting the perfect foundation I needed to get into the story.

If you wanted to know more about the club Chaos, you got that. I enjoyed the back story, and I loved the character references from KA other books. I am sure I missed a few, but I got a little bit here and there.

I wouldn’t call Own the Wind super steamy, but it really wasn’t necessary. Overall, it was a pleasurable read. I recommend!

The Proposal by Katie Ashley

The ProposalThe Proposal by Katie Ashley
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

3.5 Stars

The Proposal is book 2 of the “THE PROPOSITION” series and I really liked book 1, The Proposition, both books were light and charming.

If you haven’t read book 1, do not read the rest of this review, I will mention the cliff-hanger ending.

So Aidan F**@ed up right?  One of the things I HATE reading in a book is anything that deals with cheating, yeah I know, he couldn’t get it up and he wasn’t into it (I read his thought processes) BUT STILL, come on Aidan, you could have done something else to push Emma away, I mean for Godsakes, she’s carrying your child! Honestly I didn’t care for the Amy back story, it suppose to answer Aidan’s need to push Emma away.  I know it's my personal issue with cheating.

I love Emma, she’s so adorable and I am so proud that she made Aidan kept begging for forgiveness. I don’t care how long it takes or how many times a man says sorry, it takes a HUGE gesture and probably the rest of your life to make up for that kind of betrayal. I guess that sums up the book, Aidan does everything he can to get Emma to forgive him and it’s pretty darn cute. Could there have been a little more tension? Sure, but this isn’t that kind of book.

Emma forms a relationship with a doctor, Pesh, of course Pesh is charming, good looking and doesn’t mind Emma is 6 months pregnant. I am not a fan of Pesh, don’t get me wrong, I am all for the charming swept-you-off-your-feet kind of character, but there was just something off about him. I do like that Ashley wrote in a love triangle, there has to be some obstacles right?

If you liked The Proposition you won’t be disappointed by The Proposal. It’s a fun and cute read, who doesn’t like reading about a pregnant girl trying to work it out with her baby daddy? I mean, I’m all for the pregnant girls, so it’s a recommend in my book.

The proposition by Katie Ashley

The PropositionThe Proposition by Katie Ashley
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

4 Stars

OMGAH, REALLY? I wish someone told me there was a CLIFF HANGER ENDING?!!!. I am so happy book 2, The Proposal is out or I would have busted a cap up in here!

Okay, I need to tone down my emotions, but seriously, The Proposition will do that too you.

Let me just say, The Proposition was one absolutely, one adorable, couldn’t put-down read!!! Who doesn’t like two single people trying to make a baby? It’s just pure fun!

Emma is about to turn 30 and she is very lonely. Her mom died 2 years ago and she hasn’t found a husband, she wants to fill the void by having a baby, but she doesn’t want to use a sperm bank. Aidan is the very handsome, rich and successful VP of Marketing. Emma and Aidan strike up a deal, Aidan will be Emma’s sperm donor only if they conceive the baby naturally.

How cute is the plot? I am just giddy for joy! You throw in two single characters, a baby and guarded emotions and that makes one happy read for me. I am very happy that almost all the issues are out fairly early on. I know, you are asking yourself, how does it make a good read if there is no tension, well let me explain my friend, sometimes a nice light read with light tension can just be perfect sometimes. I liked the lightness of everything and I am very satisfied there were no “mysterious past” I had to uncover. The main story is just the relationship between Emma and Aidan.

I am pretty sure everyone will say that Emma is just pure awesome and my only complaint is that I find her a bit too nice, to the point where it’s a bit unrealistic, I don’t know any person THAT is that LAID BACK, but it’s a fictional story, so I over look it.

I liked Aidan; he was funny, cocky, and very sweet. Some of the things Aidan does, you are just like “OMGOSH that is so Freaking SWEET!” BUT at one point you want to smack him the face. It had to be done, I know, you have to write in tension, it was just unexpected maybe?

There were many cute points in the book, I can emphasis that enough. I found the whole baby making process adorable and a lot of woman can relate to. You have Emma taking her temperature, counting her days until ovulation, etc and then there’s Aidan, just there to do what he needs to do, it’s just funny. The book isn’t all about making a baby; you get introduced to Aidan’s and Emma’s families.
Anyhow, Boo for the cliffhanger ending, but YAY for book 2 already out.

The Proposition is one light-hearted read that will bring a smile on your face, as long as you have The Proposal ready to read next.
